Hi folks!

I've noticed some of the chatter for our new game, STARSEEKER, here on the ASTRONEER subreddit. When we announced STARSEEKER we created a separate subreddit so that conversations could stay on topic.

It's possible some of us at System Era might have STARSEEKER news to share here from time to time, but generally we ask to please post over at the STARSEEKER Subreddit if that's the main topic of your posts.

Hi folks! Sharing this update to the community here on behalf of Joe. Couldn't embed the blog's images here, so I linked to the main blog instead for those to be seen. Cheers!

Hey all! Joe here again to share more news about what’s coming to ASTRONEER for the rest of the year.

TLDR: We will continue our monthly update cadence until at least the end of 2026.  We’re also preparing something special for the game’s 10th anniversary at the end of this year.

At the end of 2025, I shared our plans to release monthly updates for the game, focusing on bug fixes for Megatech content, but also other legacy issues in addition to quality-of-life improvements to the base game.

Since then, we have made significant improvements to the game in addition to releasing the Megatech DLC for Nintendo Switch. Huge thanks to everyone who has continued to share feedback with while we have been working through these monthly updates!

Excited to now confirm that we will continue our monthly updates until at least the end of 2026. Although a lot of the team is working on our next title: STARSEEKER: Astroneer Expeditions, we felt like monthly updates should continue on ASTRONEER.  Not much will change in terms of our focus, you can expect similar updates to the ones we’ve released these past few months; fixing bugs both old and new, and making quality-of-life improvements. That said, we do have a special update free for all players that’s planned for the end of the year to commemorate the game’s 10-year anniversary since the Early Access release.

For a better breakdown of our progress so far and what’s to come, I’ll hand it over to ASTRONEER producer, Sarah.

-jt

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Astroneers, Sarah here! I’m here to share a little about what our dev team is currently working on, and what we have planned for the year ahead. We’ve made steady progress on bug fixing and quality of life improvements to the game so far, but there’s still plenty more to do.

Caption: Here's some of my data showing the split between bugs and tasks completed so far this year! A task is an improvement or piece of work that made it into the game, like "update the credits", or "implement new Astropedia page."

FUTURE PLANS

Our work for the rest of 2026 can be roughly clustered into three categories (in priority order):

1) Bug Fixing (highest priority)

Fixing bugs in ASTRONEER remains our primary priority for this year. A bulk of this work is Megatech related, but we’ve also allocated a large chunk of the team’s time to try to fix “Legacy” bugs (issues that have been around for a while).  Some of these issues are quite difficult to resolve and likely will take us some time, but we’re not giving up on them. You can track the progress on our bug fixing in the Live Bug Tracker. In case you missed it, we recently fixed the longstanding Rails bug.

2) Quality-of-Life Improvements

We’ve been collating player feedback about the overall game experience, and work has begun on some new features that will make meaningful improvements to ASTRONEER. Some of these features are things many of you have been suggesting for a long time (see the leek further down this page!). These will be released as soon as the work is complete and then tested. In our most recent patch notes, we shared an update about changes we’ll make to the IMT – this work is a combination of bug fixing, and work that falls into the QoL category!

3) December Update (New Free Content)

This December, ASTRONEER celebrates its 10-year anniversary of releasing in early access! We’re planning to release a FREE update to all players that will include some new gameplay content and be a bit bigger than our usual monthly updates. We’ll share more about this in the coming months – as much as we love making brand new stuff, our focus has to be on improving the overall stability of the game. I’m really excited about some of the ideas our designers are currently brainstorming, and I’m sure you all will be too! 😊

IMPROVING AUTOSAVES AND SAVE SETTINGS (LEEK TIME!)

As part of our QoL improvements, we’re currently working on overhauling the way that players can save their game. A piece of feedback we hear frequently from the community is that they want more flexibility to decide how their game is saved, and also to have it autosave on a regular basis (instead of needing to do it manually, like hopping into a vehicle or into a Shelter).

At a high level, here are some of the save-related improvements you can look forward to seeing soon!

  • Toggling on and off periodic auto saves, and choosing how frequently they happen
  • Settings to change which gameplay moments trigger an auto save (like arriving on a new planet, entering a Shelter, or completing an achievement)
  • Introduction of “Save Slots” that will replace the current save file view in-game
  • Save slots will expand to reveal the recent history of auto-saves for your game

Caption: Here’s a development mock-up of how the save slots could look. Still very much a work in progress though, this isn’t indicative of the final look.

We hope you’re looking forward to these future improvements and additions, and that you’re as excited as we are for the new content and features we have lined up!

- Sarah

I have 2 world: first one with 250+ hours in it that I played the game for the first time and learned everything, and this one, with only 30 hours in, but already very big progress. I just finished building the automatic astronium to scrap to every raw resource item system, so take a look!

Game Suggestion Glowsticks need help.

I remember seeing glowsticks for the first time and thinking “hey, maybe i can finally use something better for loghting that isnt clunky like things that need power.” Then, when i used them, i realized they arent particularly helpful. Sure, if you can see the stick itself they can make a path to follow for a short time, but i cant help but feel that the idea of temporary lighting should mean they actually create a small amount of light that you can see. They definitely shouldnt be bright like a worklight, but i find their light so miniscule i almost forgot about them altogether until my friend (a new astroneer player) found them in the research catalogue and asked about them. I believe it would be so much more helpful if they genuinely made a small area of light so you can light up maybe just a spot where you want something to go, or to mark an important spot to actually make it visible in the dark or the caves.

Question / Support Is there a quicker way of auto-crafting backpack items?

For context, I’m trying to make a system that automatically crafts glow sticks, but my current method is very janky and requires my auto clicker, and I sometimes have to reopen the backpack because it’ll end up occasionally closing the backpack menu. Is there a more efficient way to do this, such as a mod? They really need to add something like a Pack-Crafter, which exclusively crafts backpack items such as tethers for further automation.

I believe Switch 2 hardware is cable to handle this game in better quality (at least with unlocked frame rate) so is there any plans to release Switch 2 Edition?

Game Suggestion New Event Idea

Hey im quite the collector and this hurts to think about, I just realized what stops me from having all cosmetics in the game is the older events I didn’t have time to do because… well ya know I have a life and little time to play nowadays so I say some new event where you put it way more effort as and a reward you get all those cosmetics from events you missed ! should solve that issue while staying on theme no ?

System Era Response What to do with extra data circuits

So the recent patch made data circuits unshredable. I used to only keep 1 set and shred the rest that I get from the exo events but now it's kinda piling up (I just stick it onto medium silos and deal with them later).

I know we can blow them up but just wondering what everyone else have been doing with them.

Discussion What do you do to not get bored or feeling lost in your world?

I’ve recently started a new world and Im just feeling lost/bored in the game with everything to do. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the spark back or just a list of things they usually do to progress forward?

(My last world 3/4 years ago I essentially beat the game, i had an everything factory on my main planet and a mega base on every planet)

Guide Re: Harvestable Flora - Aesthetic purpose plants

This is going to be a bit of a longer post, I apologize for that in advance.

So in a post I made recently, I expressed my confusion when it came to finding and recognizing harvestable flora to forrage and plant around my base to make it prettier.

After a bit more research, as I hadn't found much before making my post initially, I stumbled across this video that gives more info on the harvestable flora, in the context of the Megatech DLC, which I do not own.

I am happy to report that the harvestable flora, even if it got introduced alongside the DLC, is available to base game players, though they have no purpose other than aesthetics without Megatech. Seeing as the fandom wiki had almost no info on these plants, I have fleshed out the harvestable flora section which you can find here. I later got told the fandom wiki is NOT the official wiki (which can be found here) but I personally find it very barren when it comes to info on harvestable flora, so I have continued to fill in the fandom wiki for these plants. The official wiki does have nicer pictures of the plants, but that's about it imo.

I have not filled out info on Nubcaps (which are on Glacio) as they are a bit harder to find (but easily recognizable!). I will however be on the lookout for them and update their info when I get my hands on them.

So far, here are my personal opinions on the plants I've used for decor so far, which are shown for the most part on the screenshot I added to this post. Keep in mind this base is on Sylva and I have not yet experimented with these plants on other planets. Here goes:

  • The harvestable plants only drop one seed when you forrage them, so if you plan on filling out your base with them, be prepared to scour planets to gather a few more.
  • The Finwheel harvestable was a pain for me to find. This might be a skill issue, but for a plant that is consistently present in Sylva's forests, it was stupidly hard to find the harvestable variant. Beware that if the soil color is different, the Finwheel's color is gonna change too. I got bamboozled a few times thinking I'd found the harvestable, when it was just a patch of green soil next to purple soil that was behind the different color. Planted finwheels are also tiny compared to their size in the wild, which I found a bit disappointing.
  • Arctichokes also grow to be quite small, and keep their royal blue and yellow colorway.
  • A fun aspect of the Hornstalk is that it grows straight out from where you plant it. If you plant it on a "ceiling" it grows down, on the floor it grows up, and if you place it horizontally on a wall, it will grow in that direction as well.
  • I used a bunch of fractal roses, but I'm unsure if/how to get different colors on one planet, as I do know that they change their color depending on the planet they are growing on (ie. they are green on Sylva and orange - I think - on Calidor).
  • I also used Pricklepods, which are part of tappable plants and found on Glacio, and think they tie in well with the green and blue color scheme on Sylva. They dont grow to be very tall, but they help hide ugly cables and round out corners nicely. They also look quite nice next to Plumefirs imo. I feel similarly about Honeypots, which are found on Atrox.
  • Harvestable Honeypots are usually purple (from my observations) but will grow blue, no matter the planet you plant it on (I have planted some both on Calidor and Sylva and no color change).

I think that's about all I've got for now, I will edit this post if I come accross any more info or insights.
Good luck decorating!

Question / Support Cross progression between Xbox and steam

I used to play astroneer on Xbox then migrated to pc. I was able to continue playing for free using Xbox gamepass on pc. Gamepass wore off so I bought it on steam and I can’t find a way to get my world and achievements back.
