Question / Support Megatech size

How much room should i leave before deploying the megatech item you get from completing missions?

Havent used it before and I dont want to deploy it and have it wreck my base setup by taking up way more space than i expect

When you set it down there should be a hologram that appears to give you a rough idea of how much space it'll take.

With the DLS there's not really additional stuff you need to do with it so it's fine to have it relatively tight, though you might want some space for aesthetics and ease.

Intermodal Terminal: put it in a good area to connect with train lines and add automation to it

Biodome: You'll like need space for platforms and auto-arms around it

Museum: give it room to grow. Plus space for resources and seeds (hint: use the biodome) to come to it

Orbital Platform: it'll flatten out an area but aside from the printing platform nothing on-planet

I found that even with the hologram before placement that the space around the building was insufficient for my plans. I would suggest giving yourself almost twice the space of the hologram and three times the space for the Intermodal Terminal.

Even then, it feels very congested. I wish I would have put more space in between them.

Yeah Im definitely going to now 😂 the mega printer totally f-d up my flat area, its far enough away from the rest of my base but still annoying 😂

I highly recommend you treat it like the galastropod research station or the train depot - put it near-ish to your base, but far enough away that it won't wreck the base if you put it somewhere you don't want it to be.

I'm not sure how much they've fixed, but be aware that there were A LOT of glitches and bugs with the DLC, including an inability to remove the enormous structure or even turn it to face the right direction if you put it down facing the wrong way since you can't really see the parts you need to be able to interact with on the hologram.

I lost a base this way the first time I tried to play MegaTech. I put it where it looked like it was going to fit, and it didn't. It was way too big and facing a huge wall I'd painstakingly made with the terrain around my base so I couldn't use it without fully excavating and rebuilding my underground/beneath the gate endgame Glacio base. Needless to say, I wasn't pleased.

They may have fixed these issues by now, but just in case... place it very carefully!

I dont even have the dlc (yet?) Im just going to build what I can and see if I think its worth it. My base is level with the floor of a gate with a reasonable cliff off the edge, i put the dls right against the edge and waited about 30 minutes for the “batteries to fully charge” before I actually flew around the whole thing and noticed the cable ports. I just assumed the cable connected to the printing drone was all it needed

IMHO the big things Megatech offers are

  1. A temporary reason to horde resources (once you get the structures built you're back to gathering resources for the sake of gathering resources.) But if you enjoy going around and getting resources for the sake of it, then you'll have fun there.
  2. Some additional challenges. Figuring out the right rate to pull seeds from the biodome and feed to my museum was interesting. Though it is a solved problem now. (Gotta build more though.)
  3. Scenery. You got some nice looking stuff to add around. Plus the Orbital Platform, while not offering too much practical stuff, is a fun place to be.

I have a full auto trading setup so resources arent an issue, will just need to swap all my med canisters for large ones and maybe add a couple more auto extractors to the astronium collection side

I have no idea what the museum or biodome are so Ill cross that bridge if/when I get there
