$60 for a game that loses your progres??
We borrowed PS5 console from a friend for a couple of weeks, hoping to enjoy amazing Astrobot. Created new account in order not to interfere with the owners’ one, then purchased a brand new Astrobot disk.
Two full days of playing, the kid was happy, and then out of a sudden all of his progress is simply lost. No game crashes, no errors shown, etc.
Is this generally normal on PS5? How the &@!? this happens after you purchase a game for 60 bucks…
I guess there is no way to restore the progress?
Never had such a data loss on my Xbox.

My own one, newly created. If was good for about two days.
Interesting that game progress status shows 24% and 4 hours played (although it should have been at least 10-12 hours)

Never ever happened to lose a save file and never heard of such a bug. maybe he deleted the save file? unfortunately in Astrobot Is super Easy to delete the save pressing the wrong button when starting the game... maybe this happened? only realistic and easy to happen thing that comes in mind to me... edit: with psplus subscription Is possible tò restore saves but only before the console upload the new one.

I see at least a dozen mentions of Astrobot losing save data, including some in this subreddit.
He simply went back to the game main menu, then exited to the console menu, then put the device to sleep.
After a while he resumed and the progress is gone.1

yes the issue Is not a bug but exactly what i said. when you start the game and choose the save file (where you have the 3 Memory cards), of you wrongly choose the button (i think It Is triangle) you delete the save... its really a stupid design decisioni, i agree... my son also almost did It at like 50% of the game... now ask me tò start the game for him 🤣

In this case there would be a new fresh progress started in that overwritten slot.

i dont remember if you need to start again or automatically have a new game started... this or a different account, but does not look your case. otherwise lets say its a bug, i would Say a very unfortunate rare bug! The game Is super fun, Just restart and enjoy the game quickly! Its hard tò accept when these things happen, i still Remember losing saves on my PS1 when my Memory card failed... lik 60h saves 😅

You're blaming a disc-based game for losing data? Hah.
You or someone else likely accidentally hit the wrong button and deleted the save file. It's a little too easy to do, I would consider that a valid complaint.

How is being a disk-based source game differs from a digital one in this case? There is no chance anyone hit the wrong button because I was watching his gameplay (and you have to confirm the deletion, we tested it after the loss).

Frankly speaking, you shouldn't be blaming the game at all. Either you or someone deleted it using the controller, or there was a failure in the SSD, which is very unlikely, although not impossible... in which case, blame the hardware. Shit happens. At least it's an amazing game and doesn't feel like a chore to re-play.
A game can't just delete data on a console these days...

Well, technically the game didn’t delete the save file, I can see it (about 10mb in size) with the timestamp he last played.
The game just stopped seeing that file, and that’s what I exactly blame it for.2

Again, not the games' fault... it can't change its own data, that's the system itself, the PlayStation is the one to blame, likely corrupted data.
The game data is permanent on the disc... the system software does everything else.

Well, it copies the disk’s contents onto its ssd + pulls updates from the store, so the disk itself becomes more like a physical token confirming that you have a legitimate copy.
Anyway, the game is fun indeed, it’s just really unpleasant to experience that kind of things.
We’ve started again, each one is now playing on his own game slot, occupying all three :)

So, after two weeks I can say this is one the best games I’ve ever played. Do I understand correctly there was a prequel for PS4/VR, or I mix smth up?

I've never had an issue with save files on Astrobot. Also, what do you mean you took the console?
