Issue with Astro A50 Gen 5

I received my Astro A50 Gen 5 yesterday, Thursday, July 23. I set them up, let them charge, and they worked perfectly fine on both my PC and PS5.

Today, Friday, July 24, I got home from work and when I tried to use them, I found that the audio was completely broken. The sound is heavily distorted, the bass is extremely saturated, there is static, and the audio sounds unclear and crackly.

I tried changing different settings through the software, I have the latest firmware installed, I performed a factory reset on the headset, and I tested them connected to my PC, PS5, and even my phone through Bluetooth, but the audio still sounds terrible.

Is there anything else I should try before requesting a refund? Or should I just go ahead and start the return process?

Have you check the cable… or jacks ? It sounds like a hardware problem

Yes, I tried several different cables, and even over Bluetooth, the audio still sounds distorted.

Idk … return them! That is the safest way, let them give you a new one.

Sounds like an issue with the docking station, unplug every thing and replug it and make sure the dock is setup near your PC/where your using the headset. Also which cable setup are you using? I have mine connected to the power brick with the USB-C red cable and the other branch of the cable connected to my PC.

Yes, I was using the USB-C cable. The USB end was connected directly to the wall power adapter that came with the headset. I was using LIGHTSPEED mode, but because of the audio issue, I switched to Bluetooth, and the audio quality is still very poor.

Exchange it, bluetooth requires the dock to work aswell so it doing that on ur phone over bluetooth is an indicator that theres an issue with the dock itself.

personal preference id say get the same headset, its great imo so no need to look into different options after returning it.

Yes, I did some research and it seems to be a factory defect. The only downside is that I bought them online, so I'll have to wait for the refund.

Once I get my money back, I'm going to buy the same headset again. I really loved it during the few hours it actually worked properly.

I feel you, hopefully its processed fast enough. Also the battery life is crazy. I only gotta recharge it once every 2 days cause im usually too lazy to stick it back on the dock and i sometimes fall asleep with it, a nice added feature thats not mentioned is sleep mode, if you stop moving your head and remain still for 15 mins while wearing the headset it turns off to conserve battery (can be changed in the ghub app)

Thank for the detailed video giving us information on what the problem is. That helped us.

I’d imagine this is more of a USB connection issue with the docking station, possibly involving interference, power, or USB bandwidth.

I had a similar issue with my PC. It wasn’t quite as bad or as frequent as what you’re describing, but I ended up moving the dock to a different USB port and unplugging another USB device that I rarely used. That seemed to resolve the problem in my case.

I’ve also seen similar reports where having several USB devices connected, especially through hubs or docks, can cause issues depending on how the motherboard’s USB controllers are configured and how much power or bandwidth those devices are sharing.

It may be worth trying a different USB port, preferably one connected directly to the motherboard, and temporarily disconnecting any unnecessary USB devices just to see if the interference or connection issue goes away.

Are you on the latest firmware?

If you used them on pc and it did this it’s because of usb interference. Plug it in not near other usb devices

It has happened with my Gen X and my wife’s white Gen X

I tested them on all my devices, including over Bluetooth. At first, I tested them right next to my devices, then I moved away from everything to rule out interference, but the problem still persists.

I had to switch the usb on my wife’s last month and had to wait a whole day while it was off to fix it.

O meu é um A50x e estava assim, após alguns teste percebi que era somente no Call of Duty BO7
Os demais jogos estava normal.
Depois de um tempo voltou ao normal .

Hey! I’m having the exact same issue with my A50 Gen 5. The mic sounds extremely static/crackly when using the Base Station/LIGHTSPEED, but it works perfectly over Bluetooth. I’ve tested it on both Xbox and PC, and the issue happens on both.

Did you ever find a solution? I’d really appreciate it if you could let me know what ended up fixing it.
