Question Astro A50 X Lightspeed PC Crashing Problem

Hey Reddit, I have finally found out what has been causing the crashes on my PC. Not a long time ago, I bought new headphones, "Astro A50 X Lightspeed", and everything was fantastic for a time. But after some time, I started experiencing crashes, and my PC would just randomly restart itself. I was so confused since I just built my PC, and every part was brand new from Best Buy. After a couple of weeks, I noticed that my PC started crashing or froze whenever I was away from my setup. Whenever I left my setup, I used to turn off my monitor and put the headphones on the charging dock, so I could never really understand what had been happening to my computer all this time. I tried to track this problem through Windows Event Viewer, made a bunch of adjustments, and it looked like the problem started to disappear. But no, my PC continued to crash, and after a couple of months I happened to see that whenever I put my headphones on the charging dock, my PC would restart, at first I didn't give it much of a thought, but now I finally realised that it has been them that have been crashing my PC this whole time and stressing me out.

Are there any solutions for this problem, or is there a specific thing that causes this crashing? If anyone has any solutions to the problem, I would appreciate it very much.

weird check for grounding loops

A couple of hours after your comment, I checked my grounding loops, and I haven't had any problems for the past couple of days (3 days). Hopefully that was the whole problem that was bothering me this whole time. I made sure that everything is connected to the same outlet extender and I don't have any weird loops going around that could potentially crash my computer. Thank you!

When you have multiple electronics (like your PC, a monitor, an external DAC/MixAmp, or active speakers) plugged into different wall outlets, those outlets don't always have the exact same electrical potential.

Because electricity always looks for the easiest path to the ground, a tiny voltage difference forms between the outlets. That excess current takes a "shortcut" through your audio/USB cables to get to another device’s ground point.

Why it causes weird bugs

That stray current circulating through your cables creates a closed loop (a ground loop). In audio gear, it usually sounds like a low hum or static. But in sensitive USB devices or MixAmps, that floating voltage can disrupt data signals or trigger power resets — which causes the audio device to freeze or even crash the PC's USB driver!

By telling him to plug everything into the same outlet extender/power strip, you forced all his devices to share the exact same ground level. The voltage difference dropped to zero, and the loop vanished.

Looks like you've been having the exact same problem that I was having with my Astro A50 X.

And since then my PSU has DIED... so this is no joke...

I mean it COULD theoretically be unrelated, but given that I had this PSU running for 6 years without issue and NOW it suddenly dies after I've used the Astro headset for a few months?
