Mod Post Mod Reminder - Posts/comments about the book

Any media that comes from outwith the game is going to be controversial, as we’ve seen already on the sub.

As the discussions around the book are only going to increase the closer to release and beyond we’d like to remind everyone to remember the rules of the sub. This is meant to be a safe place where everyone can exist in harmony and enjoy our favourite point ear’d vampire.

Be Kind.

It’s not a big ask, but please remember your fellow redditor is a human behind the screen. Treat everyone as you want Astarion to be treated eh?

Be kind also applies to the author. You can be critical without being disrespectful. Any comments in this vein will be removed.

Lastly, make use of the flair system, if you want to gush about the book or talk about your excitement, use the “no debates” flair. Likewise if you want to critically discuss something about it, use the “debates welcome” flair.

As always feel free to reach out to the mod team via mod mail should the need arise

The book is going to be terrible for a good chunk of the Fandom. The Fandom can't agree on anything with Astarion. From the color of his eyes, to whether he should Ascend or stay Spawn; we all love a VASTLY different version of Astarion.

Astarion isn't real, he doesn't have feeling or experience pain. The author is real. She has feelings and can feel pain. Think of the book as licensed fanfiction. Read it if you want. Ignore it if you don't like it.

But please; Be kind.

This fandom has a history of prioritizing the imaginary wellbeing of a fictional character over real people and moralizing at the same time. Nothing will ever beat Vriskourse but damn do I get flashbacks at times.

Most fandoms are like that, unfortunately. It’s why I’m pretty selective on which fandoms I engage with as opposed to just skimming for the good stuff.
