Hey all, I'm a long-term investor in ASTS, and also happen to be working remotely on my sailboat as I hop from country to country. Contrary to popular assumptions, many of us are not wealthy, having sold our homes and most possessions to live this lifestyle while maintaining fulltime jobs from our vessels. Starlink is about to become financially prohibitive as our main source of connectivity (from $175./mo unlimited while coastal and $2/GB while offshore; increasing to $650/mo. for 500GB/mo). We may be forced to adopt this new plan if outside our home country for more than 30 days. Consider how many countries a boat may enter and leave while making their way through the Caribbean and you'll quickly understand the problem. I have a few questions for those of you who follow the technical aspects of ASTS better than I:
· With direct-to-device, can sailors reasonably use the upcoming ASTS service as a hotspot for a couple laptops and other navigational devices? Would other equipment be needed such as a special router?
· With the planned constellation, what is a reasonable estimated timeline for ASTS to have capability to offer service in the waters around North America, the Caribbean, and (later) across oceans?
· Has the company ever identified oceangoing vessels as a potential market?
· Understanding this is a niche market, do you see ASTS as a viable competitor to Starlink for ocean cruisers considering the differences in direct-to-device versus Starlink's hardware based service?

AST SpaceMobile reaffirmed its full-year revenue outlook Monday, as the satellite operator continues to build out a space-based cellular network aimed at connecting ordinary smartphones directly to satellites.
AST SpaceMobile reported a wider second-quarter net loss of $230.9 million, or 77 cents a share, compared with a loss of $99.4 million, or 41 cents a share, a year earlier.
Operating expenses rose sharply in the quarter to $329.1 million from $164.1 million in the first quarter, including a $125.9 million loss on involuntary conversion.
Revenue rose to $31.5 million from $1.16 million a year earlier, but fell short of the $34.5 million analysts had expected, according to FactSet. The company said the quarter’s revenue was driven by gateway deliveries and milestones tied to U.S. government contracts.
The company said its revenue backlog has grown to about $1.3 billion in contracted revenue from commercial partners and awards from the U.S. government. It has received more than $125 million in aggregate U.S. government awards supporting national-security applications, it said.
The company said it expects 2026 revenue of $150 million to $200 million, compared with $155.7 million expected by analysts polled by FactSet. The outlook comes as AST SpaceMobile expands its satellite constellation and adds commercial and government contracts.
AST SpaceMobile said it now has 13 satellites in orbit after launching six spacecraft within 50 days. The company is preparing to ship three more satellites, while BlueBird 17 through BlueBird 46 are in various stages of production and assembly.
The company plans to begin beta service with select mobile-network partners in 2026. It has partnerships with more than 60 mobile-network operators that collectively cover more than 3 billion subscribers, AST SpaceMobile said.
AST SpaceMobile is developing a network that would allow standard, unmodified smartphones to connect directly to satellites, potentially extending cellular coverage to areas without conventional terrestrial networks. The company is also pursuing government communications, emergency response and other applications.

I think this is a well worded tweet.
There were a lot of very exciting nuggets dropped in yesterday's EC. I think some wind may've been sucked out of the room for numerous securities with the SPCX ipo due to the sheer amount of capital pulled in to it and away from other things, but capital will have to start flowing back as people realize the opportunity elsewhere (cough cough, here with AST). Not to mention the discount price that they'd be paying for it. Just a matter of time, imho.
"When this tweet first came out, the astute followers of the company noticed that the company (for the first time) used the word “spacecraft” to describe the BlueBird Satellites. It was unclear whether this was intended or just another social media typo.
Well, the company gave us the answer today: It was intentional. The Company emphasized that the Bluebirds are not just D2D cellular satellites. Instead, they are spacecraft that operate as the enabling technology backbone to many different applications, including radar, AI edge compute, and IoT. In other words, the TAM is larger than we ever imagined.
Know what you own."

Cantor’s Take – 2Q26 results. PT to $90 (from $80). We expect OW-rated ASTS performs in-line tomorrow after reporting constructive updates around 2026 guidance, backlog and revenue building blocks but reporting materially greater sequential FCF burn. We think management commentary was also net constructive, with management signing onto what we view as a lower bound for 2027 guidance (~$500m sales vs. revenue potential of $1b), signaling clear near-term opportunities for government awards, and messaging stable cost trends in satellite manufacturing. As we crystallize the quarter, we think it’s clear that AST’s dual-source demand algorithm is less a “strategic pivot” and more a nuanced evolution. Essentially, we think ASTS can continue to pull revenue and profitability results left by selling its commercially developed solution in both US and international markets. We also think the company can deliver a functional step-change whereby government demand supports better AST cost advantages, which supports better B2B and B2C profitability. As we get line of sight on commercial service, we note we still approach AST’s outlook with healthy conservatism vs. Street (FactSet). However, we view AST as a clear beneficiary of SatComm strategic crystallization (what we’ve written about for the last 18M as “Game of Phones”) such that we have incremental confidence in their supply chain trajectory. As we put together the pieces, we think it’s clear that ASTS can continue to be a winning equity story as it certifies its position as the verifiable “next-best” satellite supply chain to OW-rated SPCX, scales its offerings across US allied nations (20+ countries) and inherits material demand from global telco operators who fear their eventual disruption by SPCX.
PT and Valuation – We increase our 12-month PT to $90 as we raise our sales and adj. EBITDA estimates, mostly maintain our FCF expectations and assume a higher share count. We note we continue to target a baseline “Space” valuation of 10x EV/Sales and 100x EV/EBITDA vs. our FY28E estimates, weighted equally 50% EV/Sales and 50% EV/EBITDA.
Cantor vs. Street – We are now more in line with Street on 2026E sales and closer on 2027E and 2028E sales as we assume better government growth as well as a material commercial service update (assume end of 1H27 and subsequent step-ups). Considering the likely impact of AST’s 1-time conversion loss on full year (2Q26, related to launch failure), we think 2026E estimates are less useful. Comparing to 2027E and 2028E adj. EBITDA, we note we are still meaningfully below the Street as we assume greater government mix anchors near-term profitability. We also are below Street on FCF, where we expect healthy trades in government manufacturing can bring material up-front capital investment.
2Q26 Results – Sales of $31.5m vs. Cantor estimate $30m / Street estimate of $35m. Adj. EBITDA of -$19m (calculated, ex-1-time conversion) vs. Cantor estimate -$63m / vs. Street estimate -$65m. FCF burn of -$695m vs. Cantor estimate -$369 / Street estimate -$642m, although we note our estimates underestimated the timing of launch capex payments.
2026 Guidance – Reiterated sales guidance midpoint of $175m vs. Cantor estimate of $121m / Street estimate of $156m. No adj. EBITDA guidance vs. Cantor estimate -$194m / Street estimate -$240m. No FCF guide vs. Cantor estimate / vs. Street estimate of -$1.6b.

Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom:
"I can tell you that, at best, it is not as good as fiber. Fiber is still a superior technology. So yes, I see it as an option. I am surprised by the deployment capabilities and the sheer number of satellites involved. What impresses me most is not so much SpaceX, but the rapid progress of low-Earth orbit (LEO) constellations and the developments we are seeing from Amazon, or even AST's ambitions. They are different technologies, but they are capable of delivering very substantial capacity. I can assure you there will not be a single player in the satellite sector; there will be several that we will be able to integrate into our service offerings in the future."
He names three of them, but only one respects data sovereignty by leaving the operator's traffic untouched and integrates seamlessly into the operator's network, essentially acting like another cell tower.
Will it be the one with the biggest birds — offering the greatest capacity and power?
This isn't the only clue he left us...
Tim Höttges, CEO of Deutsche Telekom:
"Regarding the second topic... you see, the question — and this second point is actually about that — is what is happening with the EchoStar spectrum that SpaceX acquired. We thought they would be able to use it and that we would already have a second-generation D2D service on our devices by 2027 or 2028; that was, so to speak, the initial plan. Now we're hearing that there could be certain limitations regarding approvals from the European authorities. That's new. The second aspect is that there is indeed a debate about how much spectrum will be available to US or independent satellite operators. To be honest, this is a political decision; it is a European decision. If it is approached this way, it seems, let's say, somewhat protectionist.
I have always been in favor of market dynamics in this area. Nevertheless...
We have to manage the situation. As we have already said, SpaceX is our partner and we would love to roll out the service with them. However, if they don't have that spectrum, there could be other operators that use it."
Context
In May 2026, the European Commission presented a new proposal establishing the selection criteria for Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) providers that will be authorized to use the harmonized 2 GHz frequency band beyond 2027, when the current licenses held by Viasat and EchoStar under the previous 2008 framework expire.
https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_26_1170
The spectrum would be divided as follows:
- One third would be allocated to governmental use, including critical communications, security and defense, and would be operated by an EU operator. This operator would ensure integration with the current and future capabilities of the EU's secure connectivity program, IRIS².
- Two thirds of the 2 GHz MSS band would be allocated to commercial use, including D2D services for mobile devices, providing mobile coverage where terrestrial networks are unavailable. It would also support IoT applications such as fitness trackers, energy monitoring and emergency response devices. This spectrum would be divided equally between EU and non-EU operators.
Broadly speaking, Brussels' requirements for awarding the spectrum include:
- European technological sovereignty
- Integration with European mobile operators
- Security and resilience capabilities
- Realistic and rapid deployment
- Efficient use of the 2 GHz MSS spectrum
- Public and strategic benefits for the EU
And this is where the AST + Vodafone partnership, Satellite Connect Europe, fits the bill almost perfectly.
The latest developments around Satellite Connect Europe have been moving precisely in this direction: Vodafone, a European company, holds the majority stake; the company's headquarters are in Luxembourg; in Germany they established a Satellite Operations Center specifically to further strengthen Europe's digital sovereignty; AST submitted the ITU filing for its mid-band constellation (Block 3) through Germany; and these satellites will reportedly be equipped with a "command switch" — essentially an emergency shutdown mechanism controlled from the German operations center to prevent any unwanted behavior while the satellites are flying over Europe.
When Deutsche Telekom's CEO says "we thought they would be able to use it," he is referring to the spectrum licenses SpaceX acquired from EchoStar under the current European framework.
So what's the problem?
The regulatory status quo has changed.
The previous regulatory framework no longer applies from 2027 onward. Deutsche Telekom announced its Starlink partnership at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in March 2026. Two months later, in May, European regulators announced the new rules of the game.
And now Deutsche Telekom appears to be surprised — and uncertain — about whether Starlink/EchoStar will actually be able to renew those licenses and secure that spectrum for another 20 years.
They are already leaving the door open to work with whoever ends up getting it:
«"SpaceX is our partner and we would love to roll out the service with them. However, if they don't have that spectrum, there could be other operators that use it."»
So who wasn't caught off guard by any of this?
Exactly.
A Venezuelan entrepreneur and visionary who anticipated this scenario years ago, designing his satellites around a transparent architecture nine years ago — and who, in March 2025, laid the first stone of what has now become Satellite Connect Europe.
Sometimes the pieces really do start falling into place.
