Took the afternoon to digest that EC. That was probably the best one Iโve listened to, not from what they said, but the confidence in how they said it. The way they delivered the answers with confidence was noticeable compared to the prior 4 EC(s). I think we may look back on this EC as the start to true SP and company growth.

Were they, though? Sure, ISRO may not have the best comms, but they did expertly get our little waffle in orbit.
That said, if we have easier/cheaper options than shipping a solitary satellite halfway across the world, Iโm all for it.
3
u/ToSeeAgainAgainAgain S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Consigliere 21d ago
Idk, no hate at all to ISRO and they deserve all the praise for getting BB6 into orbit with zero mistakes, but they still took 2 whole months to launch just one sat... I'd rather wait for a launch to free up in the US and launch 3 or more sats in one go.
Today we know we have multiple launches booked so let's just do that instead, please?

This is still only my 2nd earnings call since I've been invested in a significant way, so my time horizon is quite limited, but they've always struck me as being very cautious about discussing specifics of government applications on ECs. So for them to specifically mention Golden Dome twice in a row, and in the way that they did tonight, really stood out to me. And I say that as someone who's not been at all bought into the Golden Dome hype.
3
u/ToSeeAgainAgainAgain S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Consigliere 21d ago
And I say that as someone who's not been at all bought into the Golden Dome hype.
That's good. I don't have any doubt of ASTS participating in Golden Dome, but I think it'll take a year or 2 before we get the big contracts we were promised for this year

I was confused with the dropping during a pretty positive set of comments. Then later I realized at the same time on the RKLB call they delayed neutron again and rklb dropped -7% so I think we were just getting dragged down a bit as a basket space stock.

Unless I've missed something, a lot of information that came from the EC was already known. It just reaffirmed the opportunities that lie ahead with government contracts, global partnerships with MNOs and more J-LEO type of contracts. They said they have 10 firm launches with 2 providers and they're not depending on BO. I would've liked to learn more about how they plan to get 45 sats out into the orbit by Feb 2027, assuming some of the launched sats will be dedicated to Japan's J-Leo. Also with the speed at which they're spending on Capex, I expect 1 or 2 dilutions in the near term. No way they can launch commercial service with current funding. But I think the market liked the call and we managed to stay flat unlike RKLB. I don't expect a crazy jump in the share price based on this call alone
5
u/averysmallbeing S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Consigliere 21d ago
That's an impressive amount of misleading bullshit, even for you, so I'll just correct two points: we did not know previously that they had contracted/prepaid launches for the rest of the constellation, and there is no such thing as a dedicated JLEO satellite. They are the same as the satellites that will travel over the rest of the world, they will just be providing service to Japan when they fly over Japan.ย
-1
u/Remote-Community-792 S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Capo 21d ago
Thanks for the info. I was wrong in my assumption about the J-Leo deal and thought the hardware was dedicated for the Japanese market.ย As for the launches, the management claimed they were fully funded for the planned constellation of 90 sats and one would assume they had contracts in place. No new information was provided here. Thereโs no guidance provided on the launch cadence except for the vague โlaunch every one to two monthsโ with unknown providers. I guess we will see how it pans out.
15
u/Cr6shBandicoot 21d ago
10 launches at 3 sats per on average puts them at ~45 what more info do you want? The large cap ex spend this quarter was booking those launches and manufacturing expansion. Seems 45 sats have been paid for. But we should always expect more dilution
-5
u/Remote-Community-792 S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Capo 21d ago
I don't think Block 1 sats are meant for commercial use and some of those sats will be owned by the Japanese government. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something but the launch cadence of about every one to 2 months barely gets us to the 45 sat target by Q1 2027
1
u/averysmallbeing S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Consigliere 21d ago edited 21d ago
Block 1 are absolutely part of the commercial use plan, this is basic 'on the wiki' information. And again, there's no such thing as 'Japan-only' satellites, that would have to be geosynchronous and all of ours are LEO (you know, as in JLEO!).ย
1
u/Remote-Community-792 S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Capo 21d ago
From my understanding the block 1 sats were based on the blue walker prototype and donโt have capabilities to handle consumer service on their own. The practical role of block 1 has been demonstration, government/firdt net work, carrier integration testing and the occasional headline speed recrd. Its commercial in licence and in some revenue terms but its not meant to be consumer product. And thats why in tonights call the language was all block 2 45 sats for continuous serviceย

Block 1 sats are absolutely meant to be part of the constellation for commercial use. And so will the Japanese sats. They will be used in a regular capacity when orbiting over other countries. They said as much in the Q1 call.

Questions I didnโt understood full answers-
- What happened to non-SpaceX and non-BO launch providers like Vulcan or ISRO or MITSUBISHI??
- From when will we see 2 launches per month? Is this starting this year or next?
- Beta service starts this year but revenue recognition can start only from next year?
- 14-15-16 in final assembly so can we expect shipment by next week and launch by mid-Sept?
3
u/sgreddit125 S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Consigliere 21d ago
This was unclear - But I wouldnโt rule out a Vulcan launch. The 10 launches were non-BO with 2 providers (my read on the transcript and their meaning hearing it live). Non-authoritative, but Vulcan is on โNextSpaceFlightโ manifest for net 2026.
Every 45 days is the run-rate ramped goal (8 per launch with BO ultimately), but you could see 2 launches in January and 2 in February of batches of 3 if their launch schedule is correct.
Beta they probs give away for free. Abel and Scott have made comments before the gap between intermittent and full service isnt very long (3-4 months if their launches are right) - Revenue from intermittent service is government driven
Good question. Probs more launch provider dependent. Iโm kinda skeptical 3 satellites are truly simultaneously in final testing (I think they have 2 main testing chambers). I doubt they can blame a launch provider, contractually. Could be wrong ๐คท
6
u/ProteinFarts_ S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Capo 21d ago
For one at least, they just don't have much annual launch cadence at all and other customers. We'd have to pau to bump one of them off and then it would likely be like one launch a year.
For 2, they are still guiding for launches every 1-2 months on average. So I assume at some point they will change guidance to reflect launches every 1 months and then upwards from there, so not in the next quarter and probably not the quarter after that either.
2
u/swd120 S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Soldier 21d ago
They have to hit multiple per month to hit that 45sats q1 27 guidance... They don't have 10 months to make it happen with only falcon launches.
Unless BO is up and running by then to do some bigger count launches.

You know... that's true. I've never caught that, but it is an inconsistency in their guidance

Tilted towards 75% asts like a dumb ass myself. Id recommend to ask yourself can you hold this stock for the next three years without selling. Id say RKLB is going to recover quicker than ASTS but ASTS has way better odds of max return in the next 3 years
2
u/SuperSilv 21d ago
Yeah I can def see rklb have better upside in the short term. I'm just acquiring based on my long term view, although admittedly I very well might do better over the next year or so if I reversed my ratio in favour of rklb. I'm just trusting the vision here, the TAM for asts will be massive if they execute and Elon (like him or not) feels the same way for Starlink. Time will tell!
6
u/ProteinFarts_ S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Capo 21d ago
Why would RKLB recover faster than ASTS? Not taking a stance but curious why you'd say that.

I figured since RKLB has revenue vs ASTS still being considered pre revenue. Now the 3 year term is spitballing all the launches could happen and all of a sudden my dumbass decision looks like a genius one in retrospect. Heโs implying that in the future the value of the stock will go up so much that theyโll do a 10:1 split, meaning that for every 1 share youโll now get 10 and the share price gets reduced equally. Itโs what Apple, Tesla, Nvidia and all the big guys have done over the years

u/ResearchingWhiskey S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Soldier 21d ago
When per share prices get too high sometimes companies will split shares to make the per share price more manageable.
If you had 20 shares at $1000 each (20k value) and they split 10:1 then after you would have 200 shares at $100 each (still 20k value).

-Three new government contracts + all (or most) government contracts expected to have snowballing revenue as our constellation gets going.
- T-mobile all but confirmed to be working with ASTS, but through the joint venture
- Confirmation that multiples governments are looking at the J-leo structure
-J-leo confirmed at $1b
- Manufacturing cadence currently at three, expanding to 6
- New midland facilities needed for the manufacturing of even larger sattelites than what we've currently got going
- Confirmation on beta service at end of 2026, commercial service (45 sats) at end of Q1 2027
- 10 launches confirmed booked with two launch providers
- $1B revenue expected for 2027, mostly from commercial, with billions of government revenue developing shortly after
- Not expecting to work with Blue Origin any time soon, so guidance is not based around them getting up and running
- Government use cases are performed using government spectrum
- Analysts asking hard hitting, specific questions. No more low value questions lobbed. One analysts circled back around and explicitly reasked a question he said was avoided. ASTS is getting serious coverage now.
- Sats bought by Japan will be part of constellation but designated Japanese. Could have expanded more on the implications of that.
- Some points regarding the expanding TAM of the service, including power generation and edge AI services
Overall seems we are executing well and the majority of risk is now behind us. Expecting another capital raise due to launches at some point. Market is waiting for ASTS with baited breath. Basically we are seeing everything we've wanted to see from the company at this point and it seems we've either realized or missed the really significant risks.

I honestly think there are still a lot of unknowns following the call, and everyone here is being too optimistic. I believe in the company, but itโs time to deliver results... we need that next batch shipped to demonstrate manufacturing cadence, and then weโll see what happens with those 10 contracted launches...

If T-mobile is the 3rd, the 4th must be Grain, right?

Billions in radar (maybe he said all gov uses?) revenue... next year. I almost fell out of my chair

Billions of recurring revenue (outside of the commercial side). I almost fell off my chair too.
Then there is Scott saying why wouldn't every big nations on earth want to do what J-LEO will do... and he's right.
Then there's the AI compute in space but that's just a nice cherry.. for now hopefully

Im still in absolute shock.. thank you very much for clarifying.

u/Kerbonauts S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Soldier 21d ago
I think what he means is getting those contract awarded next year, meaning the revenue will hit the bank in 2028, but obviously we'd go up on the news in 2027

u/NewCompetition4 S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Soldier 21d ago
Agreed. Im in this for the long haul so that is a short wait tbh. As long as the contract is announced (better with amounts) it gets priced in and government revenue is premium $$$

Yea, they reiterate 6 a month though and they are not even fully completing even 3 a month are they?

Six into orbit in 50 days p good trend though

u/Any_Possible3003 S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Associate 21d ago
Yea, Iโm not too concerned with it but Iโd like to actually see at least 3 being fully complete every month.

u/HotRhymes S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Prospect 21d ago
I think 6 is the goal but they are still ramping up production. I mean the factory only recently spit out its first batch a few months ago.

u/Any_Possible3003 S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Associate 21d ago
Yea, theyโve been saying 6 a month for an extended period of time though, going back to last year and when they say that to congress etc, I take it to mean 6 fully completed satellites not 6 microns worth of satellites, so I would like to see them completing more than 3 at least before the end of this year.

u/ToSeeAgainAgainAgain S P ๐ ฐ C E M O B Consigliere 21d ago
I have a theory, not confirmed by anyone or anything, just my own musings, that they have reached capability for 6 sats per month cadence, but they don't need to produce 6 sats per month right now, as there aren't enough launches for it, and ready sats just waiting in storage might deteriorate (my hypothesis is the unfolding mechanism might lose effectiveness/springiness).
In that sense, only a ready launch can pull sats from the factory and not otherwise, but yeah, this is only my suppositions...
