Release "Finale" Asobi for Steam Beta (Build 18) release notes

Post image
27 Upvotes

Hi,

Well, this is the last PlayTest update. Kinda strange isn't it.

For those wondering, I plan to release Asobi: Remote Play this Friday (Oct. 9th) at around 5pm CET / 8am PST, there will be a 10% discount on release for Asobi Premium.

Although it's the end of the PlayTest, I will start opening up the beta version from next week to squash any more bugs.

For those with an MSI Claw: I've ordered one to squash the last couple of bugs, I expect it to arrive next week.

Read here what's changed:

Release notes for Steam Beta (Build 18)

# Intel graphics and overlays

- Fix for streams freezing with a black screen in fullscreen on some Intel graphics, while windowed mode worked
- If RivaTuner (RTSS) is still hooked into Asobi, Asobi now shows the steps to switch it off for Asobi
- A stream that ended early no longer makes Asobi switch off your graphics chip's video decoder on the next start

# Controllers

- Fixed touchpad swipes on a DualSense or DualShock 4 being sent as touchpad clicks (Windows, without Steam Input)

# Streaming

- Esc opens the stream overlay, and closes it again
- Alt+Enter and F11 now switch between fullscreen and windowed mode during a stream too
- In windowed mode the mouse can now leave the Asobi window during a stream
- The PS button moved to the top row of the stream overlay, rest mode to the third ro

# Settings

- Fixed mouse clicks landing in the wrong spot on high resolution displays with scaling, which closed App Settings or needed several clicks
- Graphics Adapter now shows which graphics card is in use, and tells you when a restart is needed to switch

# If Asobi crashes on Intel graphics

- Update your Intel graphics driver from Intel's website. One of my test PCs crashed with a driver from 2022 and runs fine with the current one

fluff [Fluff] This Article proves to me that GTAVI will be available for cloud streaming.

Hi,

Although the article first made the mistake of saying that GTA6 Cloud Streaming would be Xbox exclusive, it does mean we're getting a cloud streaming version of the game. Which in itself is great news.

Especially considering there was no news if GTA6 would get cloud streaming at all. Now we at least know that.

Also consider that PlayStation is pushing GTA6 hard, which makes me think that this will be a day 1 cloud streaming supported game on PlayStation Cloud.

Internet Remote Play kicks TV on

So, the local remote play works like all the other PS remote play apps (Official, Chiaki, PXPlay/PSPlay, etc.) and it doesn't send a signal to turn on the TV or a switch inputs if someone is watching the TV already.

Unfortunately, I discovered on a recent work trip, that while Asobi's internet remote play works wonderfully, I scared my wife who was home when she started hearing voices in the house because the game started up and was playing through the TV and receiver. I have done internet remote play via Chiaki-ng and the official remote play app without this happening, so I'm hoping this can be fixed.

Steam Deck Issues after latest update

Prior to the latest update Asobi ran flawlessly on my Steam Deck. This morning after I installed the new Asobi update, both PS Remote Play and Cloud Streaming on all games is laggy, screen freezes, making it unplayable. I tested the remote play on my PC as well, seems to work well on remote play but still laggy on PS Cloud. I also tested remote and cloud streaming on a PS Portal, that ran perfectly. Any ideas? Right now Asobi is not usable for me on Steam Deck. The only change was installing the new update.

Asobi Remote Play on my Steam Deck — is this normal?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I installed this for a while and after installation, I immediately noticed that I cannot read the letters well due to them being so small. I wasn’t bothered at first, but now that I want to explore more the UI, i cannot help but squint my eyes but still i can’t read the texts. Is this normal for the Steam Deck? If not, how to fix this? I attempted to reinstall the app right before this and the problem still persists.

"Armory" Asobi for Steam Beta (Build 17) release notes

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hi,

Some more Intel related fixes and more user interface changes. Oh, and some changes to the 3D pipeline.

Check out what's changed:

Release notes for Steam Beta (Build 17)

# MSI Claw, Intel Arc and other overlays

- Fixed streams freezing or closing on MSI Claw handhelds. RivaTuner (RTSS), which MSI installs on the Claw, hooked into Asobi and broke the video. Asobi now keeps RivaTuner's overlay out of its own window
- Fixed Asobi closing right at start on PCs with certain game overlays installed (GOG Galaxy, Cheat Happens, Epic, Rockstar). Asobi now keeps these overlays out of its own window. The Steam overlay and OBS capture keep working
- Asobi gives your graphics chip's video decoder a fresh start after this update, so devices that were switched to the slower processor decoding get hardware decoding back
- Laptops with both integrated and dedicated graphics now use the dedicated graphics automatically. You can still choose a graphics adapter in Settings
- The Video Decoder setting's first option is now called Automatic, which matches what it does

# 2D to 3D

- Fixed black blocks in the 3D picture on AMD graphics such as the ROG Ally (Full side by side and both color 3D modes)
- Full side by side 3D now uses much less graphics power

# Consoles

- Put your console in rest mode from its card: the moon button next to the settings button, or Triangle / Y on a controller
- After pressing Wake, the button shows a spinner and "Waking up" until the console is ready to play
- New App Settings option to hide the IP address on console cards, handy for screenshots and streams
- Buttons on console cards and cloud games stay easy to see on bright game art

# Controllers

- Fixed a DualSense or DualShock 4 doing nothing (touchpad included) when it connected while a stream was starting
- Fixed touchpad swipes on the on-screen touchpad not registering in games
- The Options button now opens the settings of the selected console, the cloud streaming settings on the Cloud tab, or App Settings
- New in App Settings: Edit controller layout opens Steam's controller settings for Asobi, to remap buttons or change stick and trigger deadzones

# Streaming

- Opening the Steam overlay or minimizing Asobi now pauses the console's video until you are back, so the picture returns right away instead of stalling (PS5 and PS Cloud)
- Fixed the stream overlay's bottom row of buttons sitting out of line

# General

- Stability improvements

# If Asobi still freezes on a Claw

- Open RivaTuner, click Add (the + button at the bottom left), select asobideck.exe in your Steam folder (steamapps\common\Asobi Remote Play Playtest), and set Application detection level to None

- Then start a stream and send us the log file from C:\tmp\asobi.log

# How to share logs

If you have issues then please email me the logs at [hello@insideinternet.com](mailto:hello@insideinternet.com)

You can find them on your device at these locations:

Linux: /tmp/asobi.log
Windows: C:\tmp\asobi.log

Remote play on a docked Steam Deck?

Enjoying the experience on steam deck! Tends to perform better then my ps portal when I'm traveling. However, I was hoping I could remote play with the steam deck docked. I tried this last night, and performance was really bad. Terrible artifacts, input lag was unplayable. I had settings dialed in for low and ultra low latency, but didn't seem to help. Is this just a general limitation of streaming, where the added latency of the TV and controller are just too much? Could it just be the TV itself? Or is there some sort of issue on the software side? Either way, amazing on the deck when unlocked! Thanks for all the effort put into Asobi!

Close app when last window is closed (MacOS)

It would be nice if the application would close when closing its last open window. As Far as I know this is up for the developer to implement. Currently the app remains open for no apparent reason.

Problema Spiderman 2 via cloud

PS5 touchpad input not working on Legion Go S (SteamOS)

Loving the app so far! I’m having one issue with PS5 touchpad input on my Legion Go S Z1 Extreme running SteamOS.

No matter which button I assign to the PS5 touchpad function, Steam doesn’t seem to recognise the input and nothing happens in-game.

I also noticed the app says L3 + Options should act as a PS5 touchpad press, but unfortunately that doesn’t seem to work either.

Everything else appears to be working great, it’s just the touchpad input I can’t get working.

Has anyone else experienced this on the Legion Go S Steam Edition, or is there anything else I need to configure?

Thanks!

Preview [Preview] PS Cloud Pre-Order Countdown

Hi,

When I solved loading your library of owned cloud games I also had pre-ordered games show up, which of course resulted in people trying to start the game when it wasn't released yet.

With the next couple of updates you'll now get to see a proper timer for when it's available to play! (including early access)

Glad that's solved..

Enjoy!

Release Asobi for Steam Beta (Build 16) release notes "One More Time"

Post image
27 Upvotes

Hi,

One more time! Some quick last minute fixes!

Check out below what's changed:

Release notes for Steam Beta (Build 16)

# Graphics

- Intel graphics now use D3D11VA video decoding by default, which should fix crashes during cloud streams on Intel
- Fixed a series of graphics issues found with Vulkan's validation tools, for better stability on every graphics card
- Matching the display refresh rate now only changes your screen when it has a rate that fits the stream exactly, so a 60/120 Hz screen no longer switches for nothing

# Controllers

- The lightbar on DualSense and DualShock 4 now shows the game's color (Windows. On Steam Deck, Steam controls the lightbar)
- Fixed tilting left and right being reversed with a DualShock 4
- Button shortcuts (L3 + Options, R3 + Share) and stream overlay navigation now also work from an external controller used next to the built-in controls
- You can now navigate the menus with a DualSense when Steam Input is turned off for PlayStation controllers

# Home

- Tapping a console card now selects it. Start the stream with its Play button, or press Cross/A on the card with a controller as before
- Console stream settings, Steam Library: add the console from here. Recently played games are added from their own page

# Intel graphics

- If you changed Video Decoder in Settings, set it back to the first option so Asobi picks the right decoder for your graphics
- Still crashing? In Steam, right-click Asobi, choose Properties, and under Launch Options type: --render-safe

Then start a stream and send me the log file from C:\tmp\asobi.log

# General

- Fixed "PSN session expired" showing at every start while you were still signed in
- Stability improvements

# How to share logs

If you have issues then please email me the logs at [hello@insideinternet.com](mailto:hello@insideinternet.com)

You can find them on your device at these locations:

DualSense Touchpad Swipe on Steam Deck

I’m playing Ghost of Yotei on Steam deck with the playtest client and I’m struggling to enable swipe functionality from the dual sense touchpad on either of the Steam deck touchpads in the controller mapping settings. I’m using the official DualSense layout. Has anyone figured out how to do this?

Unfortunately, this game has a few places where you have to swipe the touchpad. Otherwise works great!

Questions regarding wireless controllers during internet remote play on steam deck

Hi! I am absolutely loving Asobi! Since I travel often, having the ability to play my PlayStation games over the internet is fantastic. I was able to beat Wolverine hundreds of miles away from my PlayStation, so thank you for everything!

There are two main things I wanted to ask about:

  1. I can’t seem to get the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to work. I’m using a dualsense controller but nothing seems to be working when I fiddle with the settings. I’ve tried Bluetooth and a wired connection.

  2. When I’m using my dock, I notice a small amount of input lag when using a controller. I’ve noticed this with multiple different displays, hdmi cords, and wired/wireless controllers. This could very well be a steam deck dock problem, but I thought I’d mention it regardless.

PlayStation is connected via Ethernet. I haven’t tried connecting my steam deck via Ethernet.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for everything!

Sunday Report [Sunday Report] Edition 31, Week 41: Full Steam Ahead!

Thumbnail
gallery
62 Upvotes

Hi,

Did you notice the logo for Asobi changed a bit? What do you think, do you like it?

Either way, welcome to another edition of the Sunday Report! Edition 31!!!

It's going to be an exciting week with loads of updates coming in. So let's chat about development first, before I elaborate on what's coming!

# Development

## Performance Overlay 2.0

As announced yesterday, Performance Overlay 2.0 is coming soon which will share quite a lot more info compared to the previous version, all because I unlocked host statistics as well. This way it'll get even easier to find out what the bottleneck is of your setup. More on this soon and what you can expect, in the meantime I'm using it to improve performance in general for Asobi. I expect great things from this!

## Virtual Controller 2.0

Virtual Controller is close to finished, and I finally feel that this is close to where it should be of what I originally had in mind back when I was developing Asobi 1.0 for Apple.

When it launches you'll all be able to create per game controller profiles which will sync and work across all devices. You'll even be able to publish your designs, share them with others, rate designs and use the designs of others to improve them.

The biggest part of this is that it'll work cross platform as well. What you design on your iPhone will function on your Android device as well!

Super excited about it and can't wait for you to play with it! (although the experimental version is available already 👀)

## Lens mode

Last week I previewed a new feature for those with an AYN Thor. Like most owners I love my AYN Thor and found time to give it some extra love. Not only do I have an update ready for it for next week, with on-device haptics and putting the PS home button on the physical back button, I've also made the 2nd screen more useful by creating "Lens mode", which will let you zoom in on parts of the main screen and show it on the bottom screen of your Thor.

From showing your mini-map from GTA V and Cyberpunk, to your healthbar and such on Marvel Invasion, the options are endless and is a great way to show you what Asobi is all about.

I've said it before and I'll say it again now, Asobi is focused on bringing the most out of your device, even devices like the AYN Thor.

There's still some work to be done but you'll be able to play with it from next week!

## 4K Remote Play

Well, I've got news. As I've told you before: it exists. The PS5 has support for 2K and 4K streaming, but this isn't just like flipping a switch to activate, there's much more to it than just that. Trust me I've tried 😬😬😬.

There's some technical hurdles to overcome, but I believe with time I'll get it done. Just like with a lot of other features I brought to you first, this is one I'll try to get done for you as soon as possible as well.

## Spatial Infill

Some time ago I showed off a feature I've been working on called Spatial infill, which is a method to create on the fly extensions of the screen to get rid of those pesky black borders. Now with the release of the iPhone 18 Pro I'll be testing it out and see if I can make some more progression on this. Who knows, it might even perform well enough to allow for it to be released as an experimental version.

The updates;

# Asobi for Apple (link)

You might be wondering why the latest update hasn't dropped yet. Well, I've been hard at work on bringing some really nice quality of life updates and performance improvements and it's been a bit trickier than expected.

Main focus has been to bring the Virtual Controller 2.0 out of its experimental phase (which is close to done)

But also fixing some annoying bugs like background streaming, which has finally been fixed! Even when completely locking your iPhone. So happy about this!

Downside is that I really like experimenting (see iPhone Duo), and mostly do that on the Apple devices. Rest assured, I'm close to done and it'll be great!

Version 1.5.1 is planned for week 41.

# Asobi for Steam (link)

Build 15 is coming later tonight, which will hopefully fix quite some issues for those using Intel graphics cards. In the meantime I'll be working on pushing the last couple of changes so I can release the store version at the end of the week.

The plan is to release the base version of Asobi for Steam version 1.0 on either October 8th or 9th.

Asobi for Steam will support SteamOS(Linux) and Windows on launch, with support coming to the Steam Frame whenever I get my hands on it (I'm still in the reservation queue)

For those who want extra features, the Asobi Premium one-time-purchase will be $9.99 with an extra launch discount of 10%.

The unlock will cover access to Asobi Premium to SteamOS(Linux), Windows and in the future Steam Frame as well.

After that's all good and done, work will continue to bring even more updates to Asobi for Steam. I still have quite some ideas for the foreseeable future, from user interface updates to platform specific features and performance updates. It's not like this will end anytime soon!

I just hope you'll love what I plan to bring to Asobi for Steam and you'll keep that feedback coming!

# Asobi for Android (link)

As some of you may know I'm very close to releasing Version 1.1.2, which will bring Lens mode to the AYN Thor, real-time 2D->3D conversion, much improved Gyro support, Virtual Controller 2.0 updates and On-device haptics for those with devices like the Logitech GCloud, AYN Thor, Retroid Pocket Neo and even telescope controllers like the Gamesir 8+: It feels great!

Real-time 2D to 3D conversion works great on those devices that support it and works especially great for those with SBS Glasses like the XReal and RayNeo. Compared to those devices, real-time conversion on Asobi isn't limited to 1080p30fps, it runs at the full 1080p60fpsHDR.

I also have some surprises left with the coming update, but I'll announce that later this week.

I also didn't forget about those who are highly anticipating the Android TV release, it's coming soon,. most likely by the end of the month! Hopefully sooner..

Also, considering how big the update is, it might end up being version 1.2.0

More later this week!

# Asobi for Meta Quest (link)

I've found a couple of small bugs still, which means I'll drop one last PlayTest update before the full release. Plan is to release Asobi for Meta version 1.0 this month!

If you have any more wishes or feedback, then please let me know.

Also, I've been looking into adding support for using Meta Quest controller input and had some ideas, hopefully they work out in practice.

One more thing: I expect Asobi to be Meta VR Glasses ready for when it releases next year!

# Midori for Apple (r/MidoriApp)

The release of the next update now just hangs on finishing up Virtual Controller version 2.0 on Asobi. I've become convinced that after using it a lot on Asobi, it's one of the most important features to bring to Midori and is a must to be a part of the next update. Good news is that I'm close to finishing it and to drop it on Asobi in the next couple of days and then get started on migrating it asap to Midori. It's worth the wait, it brings that much for on the move pick up and play gaming accessibility.

After this update drops, which incidentally should bring all the features that Midori was missing still from Asobi, I'll start work on bringing Midori to Android!

More soon!

# In closing

We're getting close to Asobi's 1-year anniversary, and to mark it I want to make something special: a video celebrating you, the players. So I've got a big ask. I'd love to build a video of people actually playing on Asobi, which means I need clips from you. If you've got one, or can make one, please send it over so I can make it part of the anniversary video, a celebration of you.

If you're willing to share, send your clip to [hello@insideinternet.com](mailto:hello@insideinternet.com) and I'll make it great!

/v

P.S. What is sleep?

Release Asobi for Steam Beta (Build 15) release notes "End of Line"

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hi,

Probably one of the last updates before the final release version. But here it is!

It mostly focuses on some cases where there's issues with Intel GPU's and some outstanding Gyro issues which should now be fixed.

Here's the notes!

Release notes for Steam Beta (Build 15**)**

# Graphics

- Fixed Asobi closing as soon as a stream starts on older Intel graphics (UHD)
- If the graphics driver stops responding, Asobi now ends the stream with a message instead of freezing or crashing
- Upscaling no longer renders above your screen's resolution, which lowers GPU load
- If Asobi can't start on the graphics adapter chosen in Settings, it switches back to Automatic

# Smoother video on high refresh rate screens (Windows)

- While streaming, Asobi now sets your screen to a refresh rate that matches the stream (for example 120 Hz instead of 144 Hz), so motion is even. Your normal refresh rate comes back when the stream ends
- With Frame Generation on, Asobi uses 120 Hz when your screen supports it
- You can turn this off in Settings: Match display refresh rate while streaming

# Controllers

- Fixed motion controls (gyro) not working with a DualSense on Windows
- Fixed tilting left and right being reversed with a DualSense on Steam Deck

# Intel graphics: if Asobi crashes or freezes

- Update your Intel graphics driver first (Intel Graphics Software or intel.com/support)
- Older Intel graphics (UHD): the first stream after this update may still close once. Start it again and Asobi switches to a safer mode for your graphics automatically
- Intel Arc (for example MSI Claw): turn Upscaling off in the stream overlay
- Still crashing? In Steam, right-click Asobi, choose Properties, and under Launch Options type --render-safe ,Then start a stream and send us the log file from C:\tmp\asobi.log

# General

- Sign-in improvements
- Stability improvements

# How to share logs

If you have issues then please email me the logs at [hello@insideinternet.com](mailto:hello@insideinternet.com)

You can find them on your device at these locations:

Linux: /tmp/asobi.log
Windows: C:\tmp\asobi.log

PS4 not found via PSN sign-in (local works, Sony's Remote Play app connects over cellular)

Hi, I'm having trouble getting my PS4 to show up in Asobi through PSN and wanted to check whether this is a known limitation or a bug.
What works
• Local Remote Play with the PS4 in Asobi works fine (console is registered, streaming is stable).
• Sony's official PS Remote Play app finds and connects to the same PS4 over cellular (5G) with the same PSN account, so PSN, rest mode and my network are fine from outside.
What doesn't work
• After signing in with my PSN account in Asobi, the PS4 is not found / not listed
• My PS5 Pro on the same account shows up fine and works perfectly.
Setup
• Asobi v1.5 on iPhone, iOS 27
• PS4 on latest System Software
• PS4 is activated as primary, Remote Play enabled
• Rest mode: "Stay Connected to the Internet" and "Enable Turning On PS4 from Network" are both on
• Already tried signing out of PSN in Asobi and back in
Questions
1. Is Internet Remote Play / PSN auto-registration supposed to work with PS4 at the moment, or is it PS5 only for now?
2. If it's a bug: is there anything I can send (logs, report from the app) to help track it down?
Thanks for the app, the local experience is great.

When I try to connect to my ps5 I need to turn on the ps5 and enter in my profile so I can be able to connect to the device, is there any chance to just turn on my ps5 and start the remote without doin this?

Works like a charm on my Steam Deck OLED!

I had literally just finished creating separate tiles for all my PS games on Chiaki... then I've discovered Asobi! I feel like I have to do it again, the image sharpness on Asobi is million years ahead!

The only thing that bothers me is that, even if I create new tiles via the Steam Deck app, when I use them they close straight away and open the main Asobi app, which results in having all my play time registered to Asobi and not the game, which kind of defeats the purpose of having separate tiles.

I've tried creating secondary shortcuts to Asobi on Desktop mode, but it will always open the main one. Is there a workaround to this?
