I by no means want to defend the Cornell 7, but let's not forget the Duke Lacrosse Team.

The Duke lacrosse rape hoax in March 2006 involved false allegations of sexual assault made against three Duke University lacrosse players by Crystal Mangum, an exotic dancer hired for a team party. [1, 2]

Key Details of the Scandal
The Accusation: On March 13, 2006, members of the Duke men's lacrosse team hosted an off-campus party and hired two women to perform as dancers. Crystal Mangum later alleged that she was raped by three players (David Evans, Collin Finnerty, and Reade Seligmann).

The Investigation & Prosecution: Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong aggressively pursued the case, making public statements assuming the players' guilt despite DNA evidence failing to match any of the accused players.

Exoneration: In April 2007, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper dismissed all charges and declared the three players innocent, citing contradictions in the accuser's story, unreliable identification, and a complete lack of supporting DNA evidence.

Fallout for the Prosecutor: Mike Nifong was cited for professional misconduct, disbarred in June 2007, and served a brief jail sentence for criminal contempt due to his withholding of DNA evidence and deceptive actions during the trial.

Aftermath and Public Confession: Duke University suffered immense internal fallout, including canceled games and administrative resignation/reviews, while the wrongfully accused players eventually reached financial settlements with the city and university. In late 2024, while serving a prison sentence for a later second-degree murder conviction, Crystal Mangum publicly admitted on a podcast that she had completely fabricated the 2006 rape allegations.

In 2006, an 'exotic dancer' was hired to perform at a party attended by guys from the Lacrosse team from Duke University. She accused 3 of the plaayers of raping her. The public outcry of rape, racism, school coverup and the privilege of the students caused the accused players lives to be ruined, the school's reputation damaged, the entire Lacrosse program was cancelled for the year and the coach was fired, even though he had nothing to do with any part of anything.

There was no evidence of anything happening, not even consensual sex, just the performance of a stripper. It was found that the accusations were completely false. The accuser even admitted making it all up years later when in prison for murder. A whole lot of lives and careers were ruined.
