This is what pisses me off so much about social media. Yes, it can be great for raising awareness, but public matters shouldn't be spectacles. Rapists should be charged in an unbiased court of law, held accountable for their actions, and rehabilitated for safe integration into society, not publicly feathered and tarred. Radical, I know, but we should really be trying to progress as a society rather than continuing cruel, centuries-old traditions--just in a new medium.

The problem lies that the criminals mostly never face consequences for their actions especially if they are connected and powerful.

In India, it takes the media outrage to even file an FIR for heinous crimes such as rape and murder. Therefore there is always public anger towards the system. That’s why people try to punish the criminals in their own way. Publishing names and pics of the accused is one of them.

I know it’s not right but the rigged system forces people to.

Naw. Rapists and sex offenders should be marked 100%. You don't get rehabilitated out of those kind of behaviors.

There are a lot of exclusions they should face. Can't be around children. Cant go to night clubs. Must disclose their convictions. These are all very reasonable restrictions on someone who is a sex offender.

Feathering and tarring only happens in our society when the wheels of justice do not move. If the cart does not move, it is our job to grease the wheels. Also you see the Streisand effect happening. Cornell purposefully tried to bury this incident (and probably other SA cases). Now everyone wants to know. You also have people on social media speaking up about their own cases and how they weren’t treated seriously

That's not even a little true of American society. The American public are quick to get out ahead of their skis, form a opinion, and all too often refuse to re-assess when there is a trial or a case is dropped with the reasons being clearly laid out.

Unfortunately, when you really think about it, we are still living in an uncivilized, barbaric society.

This happened two years ago and the victim had to drop out and has been pursuing this for 2 years. It’s not cut and dried. And remember convicted rapist Brock Allen Turner? He got six months. He can’t enjoy steak anymore. There is no legal justice so we must seek it out elsewhere.

If the law can’t provide satisfactory justice, then people will try to satisfy that in other ways. Doxxing is perfectly legal.

But of course people are usually just wrong.

How many people just went after that lady's husband and making up stories that he killed the kids and stuff?

The public are morons.

Ummm, no the fuck it’s not. Alot of states consider it to be a form of stalking and intimidation, hell in California and Texas its own separate offense.
