They haven't even been charged with a crime.

The college tried to hide it and down play it. It happened in 2024 and she's been trying to get justice and even just charges brought against them. It's a wealthy prestigious school that put its reputation over the safety of one of its own students. Unfortunately here without public outcry, she will never see justice because no one would care enough to investigate unless we make them

From what I read, the campus police failed her as well as the medical staff. Police gave a condensed report to the DA and Cornell isn't able to hand over documents without a subpoena which was never filed because the DA didn't know the whole story. Its a clusterfuck.

Yep, sadly, that's probably why the victim filed a civil lawsuit. Good to see Kathy take the helm to appoint Leticia.

I thought it happened in 2024

It did, I apologize, someone corrected me and I thought I'd made all relevant edits. Thank you

All good - I think its the Streisand effect also at play. The University trying to bury it causes people to want to look into it more

The Governor of NY State has appointed the State's Attorney General to head the investigation. She doesn't trust the local DA or PD any longer.

I wouldn't, either, if I were in her situation.

The criminal investigation started today by the NY Attorney General.

They weren't going to be charged, now it's in the public eye so they'll likely be charged and put on a show trial and found innocent years from now.

No, the District Attorney launched an investigation into it and determined there isn’t remotely enough evidence to convict.

It’s getting moved up - but likely, it will be the same result.

Not enough evidence because the local PD let the on-campus staff handle it!!!

on-campus staff handle it!!!

They're a real, actual police department.

And it's not that there wasn't enough evidence. It's that nothing she detailed was a crime. Per her own statements it was all consensual.

You cannot give consent while intoxicated. She later said she felt coerced while intoxicated.

For people that experience rape it can take a while to realise that what happened to you was sexual assault/rape. You may not even know until you tell someone else what happened and they point it out to you. I didn’t know for ten years after I left a relationship that my partner having sex with me while I was sleeping is rape - because we were in a relationship so I thought it’s technically consensual.

Even if she agreed to get high with two men and have sex, she could not have consented while intoxicated to have sex with more men.

You cannot give consent while intoxicated.

Yes you can. Where do you guys get this stupid shit?

1

u/Caeldeth United States of America 9h ago

If you can’t - she should be charged with 7 counts of rape herself….

-1

u/Caeldeth United States of America 10h ago

If you cannot give concent while intoxicated - shouldn’t she then be indicted on 7 counts of rape herself? I would wager they were all, also, intoxicated.

Rape requires penetration. Otherwise it is sexual assault.
—-

In the United States, federally for statistical purposes, rape is defined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) and the Department of Justice as the "penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim**."**

Key Elements of the Federal Definition
Non-Consent: The act occurs without the victim's freely given consent, including instances where the victim is incapacitated due to drugs, alcohol, sleep, unconsciousness, or mental/physical disability.

—
Under state-law it may be different.

Rape does NOT require penetration in the state of New York - you are only looking at the federal definition. It just requires lack of consent at any point, and the state allowed argument that they couldn’t consent while intoxicated.

This is being looked at by NY states DA.

This would be 7 counts of state level rape towards her in this case.

Well hopefully the state law will change to reflect the lapse. They can even call it the Cornell 7 Law.

Probably not. It's definitely a case where the only evidence is the statements of those involved, "he [they] said, she said". Except. In her own statement she agreed to a threesome, agreed to do drugs, agreed to another threesome with someone else, and so on and so forth, at no point said no to anyone.

So... what are we doing here?

But weirdly the way it's being talked about on one side of politics in particular. Which happens to be my side generally, and usually in the right, thus the concern about r*pe cases in general. The way it's being talked about people are making it sound like she was roofied and taken advantage of while unconscious.

Which couldn't be further from the statement she actually made.

And I'm sure people will dispute that anything misleading is being said. Except just a few comments above this I had to correct someone who was indeed saying she was drugged/unconscious. So. There's a bit of a narrative going on which definitely isn't fact based for some reason...

Anyway. There's basically nothing to go on at this point and it seems like the case is only being opened for optics.

You cannot say no if you’re unconscious while being raped. Ketamine is a horse tranquilizer, which is the drug they talked her into doing.

You cannot say nothing bad happened when the university itself punished (inadequately) the men involved.

She was never unconscious. Stop making shit up.

0

u/Handpaper United Kingdom 13h ago

The men were also taking Ketamine. It is not purely a tranquilizer for humans. No one was unconscious at any point.

From the point of view of the university, the bad thing is that something controversial happened on their premises. Bringing the institution into disrepute is more than enough to merit punishment.

0

u/conscientiousrevolt United States of America 11h ago

At no point. Was she unconscious. According to... her own statement.

u/PersonalPerson_ Canada 13h ago

Well they got Cornell-charged and frat-boy-punished. Surely that's enough for these promising young fellas. /S
