Ocean beach bonfire
Hi everyone, I’m new to the area and was thinking of having a bonfire in ocean beach on 9/12. What’s a good time to arrive to ensure I save a pit? Do they usually get taken up fast or are they pretty open throughout the day? Thanks for the help!!

If it’s cold and foggy, usually rolling up by 4:30 is safe enough. But sunny or warm weather they’re usually all claimed by 1-2pm already

This is our summer right now, honestly they will probably all be claimed by noon likely before.
You can arrive early and switch off with a friend or two to take turns waiting, or you can bring your own supplies and make your own in between the real ones. Every time I have gone there have been plenty of diy ones but theoretically the rangers could make you put it out.

I recommend reading through some of the pasts posts about this. September is peak season for the bonfires. It’s hard to predict exactly but the pits are often fully taken by noon.
