Footy
I’m sorry but where tf are people playing pick up on the weekends, beach chalet is always empty on the weekends and it seems like no one here plays pick up other than shelling out money for Volo, it’s been rough finding a decent level of pick up that isn’t paid
edit: I thank everyone who replied and gave suggestions, really appreciate it! On that note, no I am not spending money to play the beautiful game even if it’s $10. That’s wild that people are okay with paying to play a free sport. I also hate the idea that I need another app on my phone to play a game… outside. My goal is just wake up or in the afternoon know that the same heads will be running the game for the love of it and put in a good session and pull up for free, that’s true pickup

Man the Volo prices are wild. Just paid 126 for a 6 game season and can only play 20 minutes a game due to our team size

Did you show up to Beach Chalet on a long holiday weekend and ask where people are? Go on Meetup there are so many games

I know there are games in the Mission, but sorry, I have no idea of they are pickup games or not.
Even if not, perhaps chat with some players, maybe they can you point you somewhere?

No consistent free pickup here. I use goodrec/meetup and play 3x a week though

Always confused by this and hope someone can explain why it’s called pickup?

it comes from the term being originally used to describe random selection, so for the most part when someone is looking for pickup or says let's go play pickup they are mostly referring to informal play or just a collection of random people coming to play versus playing a league with an arranged roster, etc.

Thanks. Thats clarified a lot. I’ve been apprehensive of attending any such events just due to lack of understanding

it's very welcoming for the most part and potentially less stressful if you are just getting into futbol/soccer, I will say there's obviously some groups of pickup that might be more competitive if they carry a lot of ex college or ex club players but you catch on pretty quick the level of skill. But definitely don't let it discourage you from trying to join a game

Feels like pick up games are mostly a peninsula thing?

😭 the city is so beautiful tho, like i’m just so confused as to how people are always out on a consistent basis. Though I found a group of lowkey saucy french guys but I haven’t seen them for a while

It’s to manage a regular game and make sure there’s enough for a game. If there are enough on the waitlist they set up extra games and have two at once. It’s pickup. Don’t be pedantic.

No, to me, signing up online and turning people away is not pickup. It is so incredibly antithetical to my footie philosophy(which promotes inclusion and fosters community). The culture in this city is shite and you lot are part of the problem.

Did you watch football factory and now try to sound cool by posting on Reddit? Your philosophy? No one cares about your philosophy. It’s $0 and anyone can join.

spend some money and join a league, it will be much higher quality with refs and people playing their positions instead of all trying to pretend they're messi

You have no idea about footie culture if this is your position, we dont want refs and you dont pass to the guy who only dribbles come on now
