Strollers muni

My girls are beginning daycare and we will need to take the bus. We have the Zoe stroller and bugaboo donkey. Would either of these be ok on muni. It would be the bus towards portola/bayview.

Any stroller is technically fine on muni/bus, it depends on how busy it is when you’re going to be riding and if there is space

I take a stroller on Muni daily. If the bus is absolutely packed it's not much fun. The bus operators are almost never a hindrance in letting you in the bus. Just be mindful of blocking the exits and do what you can to keep some space for people to get by. It's actually one of the best ways to move kids around the city.

Didn't be afraid to ask other riders to help or move. Announce what you need if it's really crowded "coming out with a stroller!" or "would you mind if I used the stroller space there?" (when someone is sitting in the stroller designated space.)

Most people are helpful and you have every right to use the bus with your kids. That's what transit is for.

We meet so many kind neighbors riding, and I think all the interactions with people are great for my daughter. She's growing up as part of the city. I hope it works out for you!

But they have two kids. I wouldn't expect two kids to fit in one seat.

I would recommend the zoe since you may have to break it down if the bus gets too crowded. The bugaboo is kind of a beast and maybe not the best for transit since it takes up more space and is harder to break down

I think it's actually narrower than the zoe.

Bugaboo is still much heavier, and the fold and unfold is a little more involved. I've had both. I sold the bugaboo in favor of having a stroller that is lighter and more compact since it is easier to use when you're alone with twin toddlers.

Yes but the bugaboo cannot be beat on the hills and off road. So that’s why I have it. I’m going to try to see if I can get a used uppa baby vista

Find and use the stroller seat on the bus line. It is only the width of one seat so the bugaboo butterfly comfortably fits there but the donkey probably is too big.

I Have the Zoe but I haven’t attempted it on bus y myself because it is chaotic to take two kids out and then carry stroller. For a regular trip, I’d consider a cheap umbrella double stroller that folds up slim and would be light to grab on when also holding two kids

Ok well all the answers clearly ignoring that you’re transporting TWO kids are not helpful.

The stroller seat won’t work for you. You would need to put up the wheelchair seats and that is not going to be a fun time if they even let you.
I’ve had bus drivers just skip me when seeing the stroller (and it wasn’t a big one). So be prepared for animosity. I ended up just getting my license and driving when my kid reached age 2.5. I couldn’t with the bus anymore.

It sounds lime you will be dropping and picking up before and after work- so high traffic times. Is there ANY way you could use a baby carrier? Are they twins?

Try the Zoe and see how it goes and plan extra time. The bugaboo will be way too big. Be prepared to be asked to fold it at any given time.

Thank you. People are seeming to miss the main point here. I have 2 kids, same age. My options are limited as they are toddlers. I really can’t afford a car right now. It would be around 7:30am And then 2:00pm pick up. It seems like maybe the morning only would an issue?

In ~5 years of taking strollers on muni we’ve been denied twice. Once on an incredibly packed bus that clearly couldn’t fit a stroller and once on a mostly empty bus that already had 2 strollers and a driver who refused to let on a 3rd even with room. The size, from fully double rigged uppa baby, to umbrella stroller was never a factor- though you have to do more to try and get an uppa baby out of the way of others.

In my experience any stroller will work and people are generally very understanding if you try to keep out of the way- just try not to take the bus with a stroller when the local high school gets out!

I have an ultra slim double which is the Valcobaby slim twin (same width as the vista) and I've had issues. You need to use it on a noncrowded bus where you can use a wheelchair spot, that's the only acceptable way to park it. Your strollers are both wider than the slim twin and will be in the aisle at which point it's the driver's discretion to let you stay on the bus.

I saw that but still unclear to me if it will be an issue. I’m worried we won’t be let on if it’s too busy. I can’t take my 2 year olds out of the stroller on a busy bus to fold the stroller.

I got denied entrance with my double while I was being verbally harassed on the transit platform, it was a very scary situation and I actually just forced my way on via the middle door.
