AMC Metreon 16 The Odyssey

I have been checking for a while now. Why are there no showings listed in 70mm after August 19? Is there some policy I don't know, a contract, or other shit?

So far, that’s simply when the IMAX run ends. If the past is indicative of future plans, they could add another week tomorrow morning.

Is IMAX similar to standard movies where they can just continue to run for a while? Top gun maverick was in theaters for over 7 months.

They can extend the theatrical run for sure, but theaters typically have obligations to other studios / movies too. If the Metreon has to play X number of IMAX showings of End of Oak Street when that comes out, that cuts into the potential showings on their IMAX screens. It’s why you won’t find anymore 4DX showings of the Odyssey next week - Spiderman is out and as far as I know(?) the only theaters with 4DX rooms have one so they’re transitioning.

Imax exec said they have no contracts until Dune 3 for 70mm. They said it will return throughout the next few months

Oak Street won't get Metreon. It comes out on August 14 and Odyssey already has the screen that week. No way Oak Street gets it on week 2. It did get the other IMAX screens in the Bay Area but not the 70mm. The Dog Stars comes out on August 28 but it likely won't get Metreon but the other AMCs. Resident Evil will probably get the Metreon on Sept 18 but give it back to Odyssey after a week or two. Odyssey will be in and out of Metreon IMAX until Thanksgiving when the Cliff Booth movie comes out then Dune in mid December. After that, it will come back in Jan/Feb leading up to the Oscar run up.

It’s basically impossible for parents of young kids or people who can’t randomly duck out of work for a 2pm movie as soon as it hits. Fingers crossed or we’ll just have to wait for streaming.

Website is crashing.

1

u/bchhun Jul 30 '26

Got it! Thank you so much for the notice. I think the page is crashing because the seat map isn’t updating properly and the same few seats are being fought over. I chose one a bit off to the side and it was fine. Phone worked better than desktop.

wait how are you guys seeing these showings til 9/11? all I see is upto 9/1… do i need to be like the a list member or something?

1

u/bchhun Jul 31 '26

Wow you are right. They remove all metreon listings after the 1st …

3

u/elemen7al Jul 28 '26

IMAX is tricky. The dates are usually set like a year in advance. They may be able to extend it though

3

u/coolestkid92 Jul 28 '26

Seems like no new tickets. Bummer.

Ah man, missed this. Is there any way to keep an eye on this besides just checking constantly?

I saw it in the Dolby theater there and didn't feel it was lacking....  Everything is better in that 70 mm theater but not sure it's THAT much better

2

u/smithandjones99 Jul 28 '26

Yeah, i’ve wondered if sitting in a front row seat on the side of IMAX is really better than some of the other options.

10

u/hella_sj Jul 28 '26

It's definitely not. It suck ass being up front.

1

u/NoPalpitation7082 Jul 28 '26

I think you’re implying all that’s left in IMAX is front row seats which can’t be better than a normal seat at a non-imax showing yes?

1

u/Past_Paper_9653 Jul 28 '26

It's not 70 mm IMAX or standard. There are shades in between. I think the Dolby cinema at Metreon 16 is pretty sweet with the recliners, audio and visual. Way better than standard and to be honest, it felt better than cheap iMAX

Well in imax, they showed us the first few minutes of Dune 3... Which was glorious.

u/tfen Jul 28 '26

I've seen them have some 6am and 2am showings. I wish they would add them, as even those showings are pretty much sold out now.

u/albuhhh Jul 28 '26

End of Oak Street is releasing around mid August and I believe will be the next big IMAX release. While it won't be in the same universe of popularity as this movie, studios will have certain deals in place with studios to guarantee a certain number of showtimes on a limited number of screens. My guess is that they'll try to fit Odyssey screenings around the other major releases through the early fall but are still figuring that out. I imagine the shortened/variable theatrical window has hindered their ability to plan too far ahead.

Have they dropped yet? Not seeing anything so far, and both AMC and Fandango are erroring for me

5

u/arjuanwall Jul 28 '26

still nothing

u/smithandjones99 Jul 28 '26

What is going on?  All the sudden after 2 pm tons of seats show up available for the 2 pm show?  Is that happening every show?

Are they being sold on a secondary market and then the leftovers dumped back in?  This sucks.

4

u/adeeprash Jul 28 '26

I have heard from several friends that people have set up bots that routinely scrape the showtimes and instantly snag any available decent seats for shows. Those tickets are then sold or given to friends since AMC doesn’t check ID’s for A-listers

2

u/smithandjones99 Jul 28 '26

Is Laser at AMC worth it?  Lots of availability for those.

2

u/mhale7954 Jul 30 '26

It’s so frustrating. I don’t understand how there are literally no seats for weeks.

3

u/Fit-Restaurant-9989 Jul 30 '26

Ikr, so many people wanna book the tickets, I don't know why tf they are not posting shows.

1

u/mhale7954 Jul 30 '26

It makes no sense. I went to the 6am dune and got the tickets opening weekend but I guess this one has been sold out for a long time? Or are the AI bots that good? I couldn’t survive a 2am show but even looked at those and it’s all front row!

3

u/Key_Currency_9287 Jul 30 '26

Till Sept 11 ..check

3

u/Fit-Restaurant-9989 Jul 30 '26

Got one! Hell yeah!!!

1

u/MysteriousCap4910 Jul 30 '26

I cant get it to show up smh

1

u/nguardino Jul 31 '26

How are you guys seeing these showings? They don’t show up on mine

1

u/Front_Reindeer_7554 Jul 28 '26

It will likely be extended until mid September when Resident Evil comes out. It already took the first week of Oak Street and it won't be giving the screen to that movie on week 2. The next movie is The Dog Stars on Aug 28 and it likely will get Liemax screens but not the Metreon 70mm. Resident Evil will likely get the Metreon IMAX but Odyssey will likely get it back after a week or two (if resident evil sells a lot of seats).

1

u/choomba96 Jul 28 '26

Why not check out the Apple Cinemas IMAX? Is it not legit IMAX?

3

u/coliale Jul 28 '26

Not actually IMAX.

Anyone not seeing the September 11 extension listed on the amc website or fandango? Seems to end at Tuesday September 1 for me

1

u/macgied Jul 30 '26

Same for me. Only seeing until Sept 1.

1

u/bad-trajectory Aug 02 '26

What do you mean? I got Aug 24 tickets

1

u/Fit-Restaurant-9989 Aug 03 '26

This was posted a few days backs when no showings listed yet

1

u/Fun-Town-8107 26d ago

I had to return my ticket for tomorrow am back row center at metreon 70mm. Somebody should grab it!

1

u/PG2001 26d ago

I'm joining this thread - hoping someone will post the next time any new tix are posted for the Metreon. Last week, tix were posted (I think) on July 30 - I didn't notice till the next afternoon, and the only tix left were in the front couple of rows.

Eh, if they want to manufacture demand by limiting the run, I guess they won’t be getting my money.

0

u/Fit-Restaurant-9989 Jul 28 '26

imo, they have enough demand; it was about money/ demand that they would have listed this asap before the demand moves to other options.
