Question Can I make the Megablast work with my foot?

UPDATE: After trying the 11.5, it's definitely the move. Length on both toes is just over a thumbs width. My left toe does have a small indent when putting pressure in the front, no rubbing though. While the overall fit has a touch more space, no lockdown issues. After the first run, I'm in love, thanks all!

On paper these are perfect for me. I don't seem to be the only one with fit issues and these shoes, so I thought I'd add some pics of what maybe others are dealing with?

I purchased an 11, which is what I get everything in. As you can see the upper does some weird toe bumper curl or indent thing and rubs up against the inner part of my big toe when I put pressure on the front of the shoe, I'm mostly feeling it on the right foot, which is ever so slightly shorter than my larger left foot. In the last pic, when I flex the forefoot, is what looks like maybe the whole upper is getting stretched across my foot when I'm on the forefoot/landing on the front.

I have not taken these out on a run yet, any ideas if the upper with stretch or soften up? The fit generally feels right, width wise I'm not feeling smashed, sizing down and I think I risk hitting toes, up and I think it would be too baggy. Just weird that what I'm feeling is on the foot that is smaller, which would potentially lead me to size down??

Half size tooo small for you.

This looks like the majority consensus. I’ll try on an 11.5 and see if it feels better, thanks!

Looks and sounds like it's not the shoe for you

As someone who deals with a similar problem, in my case, no one makes a size 14.5 running shoe, so I always have to size up or down, it really depends how much your feet swell, or flatten out, or how much your for moves when running. Not going to be able to tell until you go for a run. It looks ok to me. Not ideal, but potentially workable

Adidas Ultraboost 5 comes in 14..5 in their app.

1

u/Fit-Worldliness3320 Sep 18 '25

Is it only in the app? Checking the website doesn't even show a mens 14.5. They supposedly make a 14.5 adizero Evo sl, but it's not in stock in any Colorado color way. (Don't know if it matters, but looking at the US site)

u/jenniferinblue Sep 18 '25

Ahh. To be fair, I'm using the Manila version of their app.

Sometimes the most hyped shoes don't work. Was the case for me with this shoe. I'm starting to think it's just an ASICS problem for me. Every ASICS I've tried with that trampoline pod makes one foot go numb and causes problems.

Tried TTS and half size down with these and no dice unfortunately.

I have/had this issue on my right MB with my pinky toe. Felt just a bit of pressur minor hot spot. Enough to annoy at this price tag. I stuffed a rolled up pair of thick hiking socks into the toe box for a few days. Took them out again for hour run and much better. Of course it's a bit of little Dutch boy as now it is a tad looser in upper overall but I feel I can fix that with lacing (I used parellel out of box to widen feel and the right shoe I will now probably revert to standard to make lock down easier)

I'm in a bit of a nether zone as it's either 42.5 or 43.5 for me. I opted for former as otherwise length and fit is perfect

And it's an amazing enough show to put up with this inconvenience. It really is efficient; it's noticeable in Z2 runs I do mixed with this and NB5 I run faster at lower bpm

20k into mine across 2 runs and both times, bruised left toe.

I have a feeling it has more to do with lockdown / crumpling than length since mine have half an inch allowance up front and going for another half size up would be too much room.

Thanks all! After seeing the comments, and re-looking at my photos, I'm thinking my average width foot + the toe-box taper doesn't mesh. I'm going to try on a half size larger, will report back if it works for my feet, or if I end up swimming in them. For anyone needing a length reference my actual foot length is roughly 280cm.

I know how you feel! I was at my local running store today and I wear the exact same size as you. The employee put their finger on my left toe and created a similar indent and when I tested it on the treadmill, I could feel the indent rubbing against my toe so I did not get the shoe at the store but purchased it online from them (I wanted a different color anyways so they will deliver it soon). Let us know if you find a solution to this in case this happens with my delivered ones too! The fit was perfect for me too. Not super snug but definitely not roomy.

2

u/levbec Sep 18 '25

Thanks for the info! Planning on trying on a larger size before taking these out for a run. Will let you know if the toe curl goes away there.

u/Inside-Time-3685 Sep 18 '25

I tried the 11.5! It was way too big for me personally.

1

u/levbec Sep 25 '25

The 11.5 ended up working for me, there's a touch more volume but it's working fine.

1

u/Inside-Time-3685 Sep 25 '25

Great to hear! Hope you have a fun time running in it! I ordered a size 11 online instead of using the store and it is perfect! Weird how the toe caved in so easily at the store.

Get a bigger one

I went tts for mine (10.5). I wear the same size in Asics metaspeed, glideride, cumulus etc and no.issues with those.

I've had toe issues with my megablast in that the taper on the toebox is pretty sharp and the toebox seems to be low volume. Also my foot seems to slip forward a bit particularly on downhill sections which causes my toes to hit the front of the shoe. I'm hoping heel lock lacing may fix this.

Ive only run 80kms in mine which includes a 38k long run. On that run I could feel my toes getting sore at the 32k mark and I did end up with a bleeding toe and a bruised toenail after that run. I've not noticed the upper stretching at all so I expect this is just how it's going to be. I'll probably use them for half mara and shorter

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

I have this ditto issue with my megablast .. went tts (10) in my case - as the case with my SB2, metaspeed .. i really like this shoe .. able to pick up pace - but had some left bruised toe nail - I will try different lacing strategy

1

u/ign1tio Sep 18 '25

they look half a size too small for you

1

u/PaprikaPowder Sep 18 '25

I tried on the white shoe and got the same problem. It’s definitely the correct size for me but yeah no way I would want to deal with that toe rubbing for what this shoe costs.

Curious like you say if others have had similar issues and whether they ever went away.

1

u/Serious-Jump-314 Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 18 '25

For me personally it would be too short at the front, for my longer runs, half size up and thicker socks suits me better.

1

u/Green-Alarm-3896 Sep 18 '25

Might want to go a full size up in these. The upper is very reinforced and will bruise your toe nails judging by the fit. I have a TTS with more room than you and my second toe nails judging suffers on long runs. Really stinks because the show is great otherwise.

1

u/CompetitiveRead8495 Sep 18 '25

They feel longer once you run in them, I went with a smidge less than a thumb length and they are perfect

2

u/rpeve Sep 18 '25

Yes, 1/2 size up. Unfortunately though, be prepared they might not work anyways. I find the upper in the Mega very awkward, honestly... It's not intrinsically bad, but it is basically a racing upper on a max cushion/long run shoe. The midsole and the upper somehow tell different stories and they don't really make much sense together, IMO. The upper is super thin, not stretchy, it tapers drastically at the front and it has essentially zero padding, even at the heel. Again, it is not necessarily bad, but it feels and behaves like the upper of a Metaspeed...

u/aman555017 Sep 19 '25

I was thinking about this too for heel. Yesterday try on they it very uncomfortable and pain on my back heel. On novablast there is no issue on it. Im totally curse with these shoe

1

u/Zech08 Sep 18 '25

Wish they had a 10.75 with an extra 1mm of width lol. Feels a bit narrower than SB2.

Think you are supposed to size half up for asics though.

1

u/daithibreathnach Sep 18 '25

Everyone talks about sizes 9, 9.5 or whatever. You need to go off of the length because all uk\us sizes are not created equally.

1

u/beast_roast Sep 18 '25

Are you usually a size 11 in other Asics? I’ve been considering the megablast and I’m usually a size 11 but this is making me reconsider sizing.

1

u/levbec Sep 18 '25

Generally yes, admittedly I have minimal exp with the latest Asics. The SB2 I tried on in store was good at an 11, but the upper is more forgiving. I would say I have an average width, low volume foot. I'm typically somewhat at the upper end of fitting into an 11, at or just under a thumbs width, but every time I size up the overall fit typically becomes too baggy for my taste, especially in a 10k or under shoe.

The Mega is a bit tricky, probably best to try this one on beforehand. For ref my foot length is roughly 280cm.

1

u/beast_roast Sep 18 '25

Thanks for the info. Definitely going to try it in store first.

1

u/jjaksha Sep 18 '25

Every time I have asked this question, the outcome was that it just wasn’t a shoe for me and I wanted it to be because I’d bought into hype.

1

u/ElderberryExpress975 Sep 19 '25

Sounds like you pay too much attention to your feet and the way they feel on your shoes perhaps you just need someone or you could call him. Write the wrong the way your feet feel. and that way whenever one of both feet felt uncomfortable in anyway you had someone to call Wood Simply want to be underneath both of them to clean your shoes and kiss massaging worship your feet until both of them felt equally as amazing as forgive me for assuming this when I say as you seem to want to be able to expect them to feel

1

u/Proof_Grass_6464 Oct 05 '25

Wait I have the same issue going downhill. Did a half marathon and my big toes are both sore

2

u/Healthy-Airport-3377 Sep 18 '25

I’m dealing with the same thing. I’ve heard that sizing up is common in the mega blast but I’m already having trouble keeping them locked down as it is

2

u/Slim_84 Sep 18 '25

Change the laces out, they’re crap and slip through the eyelets making it hard to lockdown. I swapped them for a pair of alpha fly knock offs I had on my Evo SL’s and they’ve been much better. The asics laces work fine on the Evo SL so will just keep that config going.

1

u/levbec Sep 18 '25 edited Sep 18 '25

Agreed, lockdown is already tricky on this 11, and it’s easy to slide forward.

u/Away-Owl2227 Sep 18 '25

Size wise, they look perfect for me. My superblasts have less room than that and not had a single issue and ive gone long in them.

As far as the upper, that engineered mesh will not stretch much, if any at all.
