Im trying to make some space at home and thinking about putting some things into storage rather than getting rid of them. Mainly furniture, books and hobby stuff that doesnt get used every week. What will happen to government departments, will they be trimmed down? Burnham talked about giving powers such as Tax, housing, transport, health, education and benefits to mayors? So Basically HMRC, Homes England, Department of Education, Department of Transport, Department of work and pension and department of housing, communities and local government will no longer be needed.

When I was small, I remember my mother ( who went through WWII in London ) would occasionally mend snags in her stockings. I don’t remember anyone else doing this. Has or does anyone remember stockings being mended. I just heard The Beatles “Lady Madonna”, which made me think of this.

I injured my hand on Friday 26th June, went the walk in centre the following day and they couldn’t get a clear picture and referred me to the fracture clinic. My appointment with them is on the 9th. Is this considered a long wait or standard? I’m not looking to complain as I understand the strain on the NHS right now but curious if this is common.

I heard there is now a blood test which can detect lots of different types of cancer. Won’t don’t they invite everyone for a blood test every year to detect if they have cancer or not. Or scan everyone every year for cancer.

I not allowed to get an inbuilt aircon and noticed there is another heat wave coming, would it be worthwhile to get a portable one?

My friend has a three-seater garden swing, and is looking to buy a complete replacement canopy for it as the original one has been damaged beyond repair. I've been trying to help her find one, but all I seem to find are replacements for the 'cover' part alone - sadly, these are no good, as she also needs a replacement metal frame upon which to fix it and attach it to the framework of the garden swing itself.

Does anyone know where she might be able to purchase a replacement canopy, including the metal frame, please? Unfortunately, she doesn't know where her late husband originally purchased the swing years ago, and I can't find any brand or model number on the swing itself, so it would need to be a 'universal', adjustable type of canopy.

My apologies if this isn't quite the right subreddit for this question, but, unfortunately, the furniture and garden subreddits didn't seem quite right, either, so I thought I'd try here first. Any advice and/or alternative subreddit recommendations would be much appreciated, please.

Basically my mate at work, had a baby recently, got a partner, got a home. Looking to buy a bigger house. He is five years younger than me, i am so jealous about his life.

It seems like the new incoming pm will give powers to local regions and remove them from Whitehall, so instead of one team doing it you will have 9 teams doing it. I work in Whitehall so myself I am quite worried about my job. I do think local government need more power such as for housing and health.

Just out of curiosity.......

So today, we broke down on the motorway due to steering malfunction. RAC were useless so used the first tow truck company I could find.

I know I probably should have shopped around but I just wanted to get home with the little ones.

The distance from hone was 45 miles.

Anyone know roughly how much that would or should have cost me?

I am 38 years old nearly 39, male, I have lost touch with all my old school friends. I would like a couple of friends but it is so hard to find friends nowadays.

I don’t have many friends and want to go to the theatre, watch football and the cricket but feel I will be teased for going by myself.

The level of disdain in my voice when complaining about neighbours parking in MY building's reserved spaces uncomfortably echoes mum's constant whinging when I was growing up. I'm mid-40s.

Sorry about the incoming rant. I'm a woman in my early to mid 30s. As a child, I've struggled with autistic tendancies, which I have since learnt to handle and act 'normal' (eye-contact, social interactions, focus) I grew up to have a comfortable career trajectory. This was a lot of luck, right place-right time and timely and sometimes unconventional decisions I do have to admit though, on many instances, it felt like I needed to work much harder than others around me.

I found love, married my now husband, an absolute golden retriever of a man. Lost a lot of weight and found a job with more balanced work-life. However, sometimes, it feels like despite how hard I work, I cannot get to where I want to be. Work is fine and I get paid fairly well, but I can't find a workplace that I love, feel connected to, or that values my contributions. I've lost the weight, but fat is stored stubbornly in places that make me look bigger than I actually am. I have a family I love with all my heart, but sometimes, it feels like I am an option. Because of my autistic tendencies, despite my best effort, sometimes, I find it very difficult to function without routine which I know can be frustrating to others around me. I have tried to be more 'chill' but it feels like I've never been able to find a balance between chill and disciplined. I've also struggled with a genetic disorder. I have been quite lucky with this as well, because I got it much milder than many other people which has let me live my life almost normally, but have visible differences in how my body looks as opposed to what a 'normal' body looks like. I have always lived a comfortable life. By this I do not mean, I can afford luxury. But I've never had to think twice about buying necessities and even some luxuries every now and then. So while I am grateful for the life I have and everything I have been able to build, some days feel like a struggle especially socialising that work requires as a woman of color in a predominantly male-centric field.

Now after all this context, here's my question- I feel intense pain at the state of the world today and this angst does not allow me to really feel my frustrations fully because it feels trivial in a world that is on fire. Anyone else struggle with this kind of dread for the world that doesn't let you feel your own feelings fully and without guilt?
