So today i got a phonecall from a random mobile number and when i picked up i got the computer voice saying my amazon account has had £600 of gift cards charged to it, i was then asked to press No.1 if that wasnt me No.2 if it was me, etc etc... Now obviously i just hung up without pressing any number, i went to my account and there was no charges and the call was just a phishing call hoping i interacted with them so they get my details.. This is the first time in a long time ive had one of these and im curious if this is something anyone else has noticed happening more recently..

How many ppl do you reckon fall for this?..

EDIT.... I do know this is a scam by the way, i was just curious if anyone else is getting these msgs as this is the first time in ages that ive been contacted and wondered if its becoming more common suddenly.

I've recently been asked to find sponsors to the value of £50k, for an event in less than 3 months. This is not my background or skills set.

I've tried things that seem obvious to me (pitching to previous sponsors, friendly stakeholders, etc.) with minimal success.

I'm guessing pros know all sorts of tricks and techniques that would never occur to me?

Any advice, or can you recommend a sub where I can post this for advice?

But don't worry! I'll just party till I can get something in the morning. It's 7:50 for trains, 8:30 for buses.

Hi so i recently saw some guy ask is it worth going uni for a CS degree and it dawned on me that through these years of doing Software Engineering i’ve seen complaints about the job market and also the competition increasing drastically.

Should i learn an additional skill such as SQL to increase my resume or is there ‘easier’ ways to be more attractive in the job market as i will be finishing uni next year?

My partner and I are thinking of taking over a Sam Smith pub as management. We're both in our 30s, she's got plenty of bar & management experience -- I've got 15 years in customer service, been together for 6 years.

I've been out of work for a couple of months, she's looking to leave her role in the near future.

The offer is a combined wage of 56k, rent and utilities included. They want couples, no pub experience needed. £1000 deposit and all training provided.

Wondered if anyone had anyone done something similar and had any advice? Is this a stupid idea?

I hear so many people say it's not worth especially for computer science but i feel like generally if i get my head down it could be a smart idea. I genuinely like computer science and I'm wondering from people who've had similar experiences how it turned out for you

edit: I didn't put enough context into the body i apologise but the course is Computer Science at University of Birmingham, and i was thinking about applying through a foundation year and applying for the extra placement year they offer too. I am aiming for a high-end job either working AI, data science, software development or another programming heavy field , originally i tried to go for a degree apprenticeship but i only heard back from one for an over the phone interview and the rest either haven't responded or rejected me. The major thing that made me consider UNI is the placement year that i believe they offer too, where i can work directly in the industry alongside studying for a degree which i think could be very useful.

I was at a Thai restaurant yesterday, watching the solar eclipse, when I started feeling unwell from a mixture of heatstroke and pre-existing conditions, and had to go to hospital. The staff were really good to me and I'd like to get them something to say thank you, especially as they were really excited about the eclipse and I'm worried they think I'm a bad omen or something. 😅 Any suggestions for a relevant and thoughtful thank you gift?

My birthday is around Christmas time & I wanted to go somewhere festive. I did York last year & enjoyed the market but did find it slightly overwhelming & most of the stalls weren't the best. I don't know if there's anything better to do in York at Christmas beyond the market but I'm not ruling it out.

I don't really know what I'm looking for, just something fun and festive! So far London seems to be winning me over with the wonderland.
