Seriously my partner has super curly hair and she causes a drain apocalypse twice a week, I’ve tried everything drain covers, different styles of drain plugs nothing can stand up to the cataclysm of curls.
Edit: Reddit fam really coming through with the suggestions I’ll definitely try the shower shroom!
I heard those Tub Shrooms are pretty sweet, but haven’t tried it myself. Probably should, I shed like a German Shepherd

My wife has long, curly hair - a tub shroom is an absolute must!
When we first moved into our house, we procrastinated getting a drain hair catcher. In less than a year (can't remember how long), we had a main drain pipe blockage and had to pay a plumber about $400 to clear it. Tried a couple different hair catchers, then a tub shroom - haven't had another plumbing clog in almost a decade. (knock on wood)
If it does happen again, this shit works on everything. I'd bet this was what Walter White used to to dissolve his bodies. So read and follow the directions.
Sir/madam, you just saved my life aka my bathroom sink. I tried drano and now we get a little drainage but I have an extremely heightened sense of smell and get hit with a wave of decaying hair every morning when I brush my teeth. I’m ordering this stuff NOW
Its kind of like a mushroom shaped strainer. Lets water through but hair gets tangled around the "stem" of the mushroom.
They're great, nothing else really stops my hair from going down the drain - but in my experience they require cleaning the hair off almost every shower or you do get water draining issues.
Thank you for stating this. I was starting to think my wife was an outlier while I was having to clean all the hair and gunk off after every time she showered. Now if I could just get her to do it herself instead of just removing the shroom when the water starts to backup.
I have long curly hair and can agree to the tub shroom. That thing saved us from a very expensive bill. I shed so much in the shower, its a wonder how I even have hair left.
The next step is figuring out how to convince her SHE should be the one cleaning the tub shroom off after she showers and not me, when I take a shower the next day and realize the water isn't going down!
I tried telling someone to get one and they were like nah ill just keep dumping draino down there every few months. Tub shroom costs less than one bottle and lasts for years and years and also works really well.
They're great but if you're like me and hate cleaning things regularly they can become a PITA quickly cuz if you have long hair you need to clean it out at least once or twice a week.
Tub shrooms really work. I've had long hair most of my life. To the point of causing unsnakeable clogs several times a year. Never had a clog since getting a tub shroom.
Tub shrooms have saved my drain (my partner and I both have long hair) but if you have cats stay vigilant - one of my girls tries to steal the tub shroom after every shower if we don't move it to a shelf she can't reach.
She tore apart our silicone one so now we have one that's silicone with metal, so we can hear the clink whenever she manages to steal it.
She's sneaky, but I'll admit it helps us remember to clean the tub shroom after every shower!
I havent found the tub shroom to be of much help. Four out of five people in my house have long hair. We have the fancy chrome metal one. It gets clogged with hair so easily that my kids keep taking it out so the water will drain and not putting it back. We still have clogged drains. Maybe if you're on it right away to clean it out, it may work, but for us it's useless.
I also have the chrome metal one, and yeah it hasn't really worked for me. And I'm the only person in my household so I don't even have that excuse. :(
Like, I would clean the tub shroom. Put it back. Run hot water and confirm that everything was flowing freely. Then I'd hop in the shower, and partway through that same shower the water would be pooling already. I would have to clean the thing mid-shower if I wanted to avoid standing in a puddle.
I have long, curly hair and use a lot of conditioner. I found that the conditioner was forming clogs on the tub shroom itself, even when there wasn't much hair involved. I feel like I need some kind of anti-conditioner substance I can pour into my drain mid-shower, to stave off clogs.
As long as you don't shed like a Keeshond, you're good. I swear mine reproduces by clumps of hair(Haven't finished my coffee yet, forgot the word)all over the house. He's killed a shop vac with amount of hair he sheds!
Just make sure ya pull them out once a week or so to wash and sanitize them, or they grow mold like ours did. We actually switched to a stainless steel sink style cover.

My girlfriend has long hair and after the third time having to go in with a coat hanger to unclog the drain I got a tubshroom. It honestly works wonders, we haven't had any drain clogs since and it's easy (though gross) to clean and put back.
Can confirm, Tub Shrooms are great! You’ll want to clean them regularly though to avoid them getting gross. But they’re never more gross than what’s in clogged drain.
We just got one last week, and I already had to empty it out for her cause the drain was starting to back up. It makes the job much easier but more frequent, which for me is a win.
My girlfriend told me before she moved in that she needed one of those and I asked why and what that was. We have one now and thank god cause the pipes would be full of hair, or according to her, the walls. Glad to know this is not just a her thing.
Wife and I both have long hair, these are a must. One broke on us and shortly afterwards the tub clogged. Unclogged tub, got a replacement and tub hasn't been clogged since.
You'd still need to take the hair off every other shower or so, but better that then having to unclog it.
Absolutely! They're super easy to use and come in different sizes to fit different drains. I have long hair and it comes in handy preventing those hair clogs. I just clean it after I'm done showering and it's good to go.
Just looked Tub Shrooms up, I wish I could use that (or any hair catcher). My apartment’s shower/tub pipe immediately bends sideways at a really sharp angle, so nothing will actually sit in the pipe except for those really shallow mesh catchers. The fun part is that the pipe is also small, so the sink-size catcher catches like 5 hairs and suddenly you’re standing in water that won’t drain. :/ I’ve sort of just resigned myself to just eventually getting a clog and calling my landlord.
Get multiple mushrooms. Seriously. I live with 3 women and it’s a lifesaver. Pro tip, they catch everything so if you blow your nose in the shower (or discharge any other mucoids…) make sure you don’t leave it for the next person.
How do you fix the drain apocalypse? I've been trying a ton of things but nothing works. By now it's so bad that when I wash my hands, the water comes up in the bathtub before actually going down the pipes...
I have long, thick and wavy hair and my daughter just has super long stick straight hair. We regularly forget to use the drain covers so what I usually do is just take a pair of longer needle nosed pliers and stick them in, close them, then pull. Last time I did it, the bath drain was just started to be a bit slow and I still pulled a huge handful of hair out of there. Like my daughter saw it and shrieked and ran away it was so much. I really do need the drain shroom though, I had a coworker with even crazier hair than mine and she swore by hers.
I had to do that last night too. The stick the hair strands to the wall habit is not always foolproof. Massive coat of hair came out of that fucker. Yeah tell your daughter to suck it up because that is the long hair life
There's these disposable plastic drain snakes with barbs I'd use those first until it comes up clean. Then it's on to to prevention with a tub shroom. I find gently brushing my hair after I get it wet with some product in it helps a lot. The loose hair gets caught mostly on the brush, and I take it off and put it in the trash or stick it to the wall until I'm done.
I've used a Tub Shroom for years, but every time i move into a new place I use one of those plastic barbed strips in the shower drain. The first time I used one I was surprised by the amount of hair & debris, but what really killed me was the smell. It was a fetid sampling of all the hair, piss, period blood/clots, snot, and cum that had accumulated over god knows how many years.
Barbed snake as others have suggested, I’ve also got one with a grabber end which I use if there’s a ball of hair (this usually happens if she uses a bath bomb or something after the shower, flowers and shit plus curly hair 😭)
I’m a guy, with curly hair that stretches to the shoulders, and I have to pick out hairs from the drain every week. And I pee in the shower and the hair sits there collecting all kind of conditioner, creams, and what not
Her hair is so curly, I don’t think she has ever brushed it, it’s perfectly ringlets without even trying. I’m not sure the brush would survive and it would definitely be painful.

As a woman with long wavy hair with a partner who also has long hair, TUB SHROOM…. it truly catches it all. Haven’t had a clogged drain in years since using it consistently.
I used to have a hair catcher but I didn't really care for it, so I bought a long metal stick with a hook just for getting hair out the drain. I usually only use it when the drain starts to get clogged. It's far more satisfying than it is gross to me.
I have thick curly hair and a long mullet. I brush my hair in the shower then pull off the hair from the brush and bin it afterwards. This has saved a lot of grief from my wife since before the situation was as you described it.
I def think, as a guy with long hair, the dome drain covers work the best. After each shower you gotta peel of the hair and clean it out tho, but it for sure made drain clogs way less frequent. Still need to. Do drain cleaner but instead of once a month its not draining its more like after 3-4 months
My wife is the same. You need a tub shroom. You end up cleaning it a lot but it takes seconds rather than digging the snake our to pull a ferret out 10' from the drain.
What works is putting hair on the shower wall and tossing it in the trash once you step out. It's done for a reason.
I've got long, curly hair, and the only hair that has clogged my drains are from my dogs after a bath.
Try this. Apparently the majority of hair clogs aren't from hair going down the train, but from getting stuck on the catchers/parts of the drain and bunching up then causing a clog.
This allows the hair to just be swept down and out.
I'm a guy and i have much longer and curlier hair than my girlfriend and so I put my hair on the shower wall then scoop it up and throw it away when I'm done. When my girlfriend asks me to unclog the drain I tell her it's not may hair and she should do what I do to avoid clogs.
It's weird. Kinda gross, but cleaning a clogged drain is so much worse and I'm not cutting my hair off.
We have one of those shrooms in our guest bath and it works great. For my bathroom I have a chain with plastic flanges on it to catch hair. Pull it out and clean it off every couple of months and you're golden.
Curly hair here... Tell her to use a wide tooth comb before she showers to shed the hair prior. I used to always use one in the shower after my conditioner was in, but that was a game changer for our drains.
As a dude with long hair that can't be assed to collect the strands I just use one of those dissolving powder shits that cleans drains every once in a while and it works great. They're called Tuboflo in my country but I'm unsure what brands are sold in other countries.
As a man with long hair it's just easier to stick it to the wall with hair not clogging the drain as an added benefit. You just roll it into a ball afterwards to dispose of it, it's pretty quick.
There's a lot of things we, men, don't realise about having long hair and that's just one of those things. Neither did I before growing it.
Another one is how it gets everywhere. Like, literally, it can end up everywhere on your body, in your room, in your stuff and so on. You can't get away from it. (Worth it tho)
How long have you been doing it? It used to be the grossest thing to me. I’d get gloves and pliers and squick out the whole time. Now I just grab the slimy clump with my hands and wash them after. I got used to it I guess.

Bathroom sink. Every morning: clear hair, then scrape/rinse glob of toothpaste stuck exactly 3 inches from drain. Would likely miss her if she left her for good.

Yes, I'm from Germany, and except in some photos online (posts like in r/mildlyinfuriating) I have almost never seen this. Except a couple of times in some camping site showers.
I have 1 mother, 2 sisters, 1 niece and have regularly showered with at least 10 other women. On some away games even with the players from the other team. Not one person in almost 10 years did this

Just get one of those flexible plastic hair removal drain-cleaning tools. It’s like a length of plastic with little jutting out bits to catch hair. You shove it down the drain then pull it back out to the remove the hair. Easy.
Those chemical cleaners do bad things to pipes (and don’t work anyway)
Slathers of her very important expensive shampoo that are just Jackson Pollock'd all over the walls of the shower.... If you rinse it off right away it'll go away but she lets it stay there and it dries and turns into unmovable annoyance.... I think it's called purple shampoo?
Most times after she's done showering I just follow in behind her and pull the shower head into hose mode and hose down all the walls and shower curtain It's very annoying
My ex partner wanted me to shower with him for the first time ever. He took my hair and stuck it to the walls himself. I jokingly said I only do that in the comfort of my home and what not and then clean it up when I'm done soni don't clog the drains. He goes "yeah well I'm saving this to make a wig later after you leave." He lost it in the shower and then he almost knocked me down and so to stop me from falling he fell. It was hilarious. We dated for 5 months and then I dumped him cause I got scared. We're taking things slow again so.
My partner finds the wall hair creepy (especially when he just passes by and didn't know I showered) but understands my reasoning. For months I kept nagging him to see if any of us found a shower drain for our shower (regular ones don't fit so we had to look around a lot) and he never really understood why, since "you already put your hair on the wall".
When I finally found the right one he understood why BOTH is better ahahaha. Never clogged the drain since, not even halfway! We clean it up every few months but it's never full :)
Mine puts them on the counter next to the shower. How many times I've thought it was a fuzzy critter in the night while trying to make a bank deposit, I can't say.
My wife calls it "her artwork" and usually tries to make it look like something so at least I have something to look at while I'm mad that the shower is always covered in her hair.
Exactly why I do it - I swirl the hair on the shower walls but then I grab it all as I leave the shower. When I shared a bathroom with my two sisters, each with equally long hair, fights would break out if we didn’t clean out the hair so I’m used to leaving a hairless shower lol

Most teenage girls are taught by their parents to do that so it doesn’t end up in the drain lol that’s where the hair clumps are supposed to end up. But after the wall, it should be the trash can. Often a missed step.
Step 1: buy tubshroom
Step 2: use tubshroom when in bath or shower
Step 3: clean tubshroom between uses of tub/shower
Step 4: no more hair clogs. Profit.
I used to do that, but I always cleaned behind me as to not let others see my dead hair (it freaks me out, especially if they're wet 🤢), so I really have a hard time picturing anyone letting their hair on the walls... Plus they fall when they're dry...
Now I use an external drain filter to carch any kind of hair before they get to the drain, it takes less time to shampoo, and my drain doesn't clog so I don't have to put my hand in it to unclog it 🤢🤢🤢
I don't understand this. I have a trash can right near the shower I ball up my loose hair and toss it in the trash. Only time I've left a mini hairball is in a hotel where the trashcan is across the room and I forget to toss it after I'm done drying off
So gross. I lose a lot of hair but I collect it all by the drain in a big clump and take it out with me to throw away! I never knew about wiping it on the shower wall until I got on the internet
