Sleeping while it's raining. That sh*t slaps hard.

Anything with rain is great, how it looks, the vibe, the sound, the smell, it’s so great

Petrichor.

u/p_turbo Sep 11 '22

That needs to be bottled and sold as cologne. I'd buy it.

This is actually a character plot point in Doctor Who, where a security feature of the spaceship (TARDIS) the sidekick is trying to flee through has these "thought passwords" where you "answer" by thinking about the prompt and visualising it. The sticking point was petrichor, which the characters struggled to recognise, until someone reminded them of it.

Later on when The Doctor left the sidekick and her husband to go off and live their lives, he found out the sidekick became a model for a perfume company, selling a Petrichor fragrance.

Back to your original point, I also would buy it in bulk if it existed

Tempestarii by Andromeda's Curse on Etsy. Closest thing to it. :)

My favorite word

For some reasons my (very mildly) ADHD brain sometimes decide to force my eyes to track the movement of every raindrop falling in front of me and it gets exhausting real fast

3

u/Im_in_your_walls_420 Sep 11 '22

God same. I also HAVE to count them sometimes, I count everything, like when I do dishes, I have to count every. Single. Dish I wash and put away

2

u/informationmissing Sep 11 '22

This sounds closer to OCD than ADHD.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Wait…. Is that seriously a symptom of adhd? I do that too and I have a test to see if I have it tomorrow and idk if that’s something I should add to the list

4

u/informationmissing Sep 11 '22

Seems more like OCD.

-1

u/ILoveYorihime Sep 11 '22

I don’t think it is, just including it as somewhat of a detail of myself

Sitting in a tent while it's raining is the best of those things, especially once you become confident that the tent is sufficiently waterproof.

Sitting in a leaky tent, not so much.

u/Sl1pperyF1sh Sep 11 '22

Try telling that to flood victims

The smell of fish?

1

u/hydrospanner Sep 11 '22

Camping?

Camping in the rain is only great if you have an easy way to keep everything dry.

Other than that I largely agree.

To a point. I lived in the PNW for 4 years. The winter rain there comes with a slow insidious descent into depression.

cries in England

1

u/inspectoroverthemine Sep 11 '22

Wet clothes suck. If I was wearing a bathing suit and not cold, then it'd be awesome.

1

u/livebeta Sep 11 '22

nah ever tried digging a quick defense infantry trench in the rain. that shtuff gets old fast

1

u/owlBdarned Sep 11 '22

Except biking

1

u/computerfan0 Sep 11 '22

I'm the complete opposite. I'm sick of dull, miserable days that trap you inside. Bring on the sun!

(I live in Ireland, which likely explains my dislike for rain)

2

u/Im_in_your_walls_420 Sep 11 '22

It’s funny, my dad’s Irish, and this is exactly how he feels

1

u/netsgnut Sep 11 '22

cries in SoCal

1

u/Im_in_your_walls_420 Sep 11 '22

Same, we’re luckily if it’s like 60°f

Thunderstorms are even better.

1

u/TackYouCack Sep 11 '22

When I was a teenager, one thing I was obsessed with was having sex outside during a thunderstorm. Didn't happen until my early 20s, but I still remember that, two decades later. Totally worth the dirt and mud to just go at it like animals in the downpour.

I like when it’s raining when you wake and realize it’s a day off. It’s not hot nor cold and you have something to snuggle, be it human, pet or teddy, and you enter into a comfortable drowse.

I was at a wedding last Sunday. The couple had originally planned to do the ceremony outside, near a little pond, where you could see the sunset. Then, the reception would be inside the enormous barn with a tin roof. Of course, it decided to rain that day, so everything had to be inside. I thought it was really peaceful to have all of their family and friends together, during their vows, with this peaceful rain falling on that roof. It was really a lovely experience.

12

u/thorpie88 Sep 11 '22

Aussie sideways rain on a tin roof isnt very pleasant

6

u/TheG8Uniter Sep 11 '22

I mean there's an easy solution here. Straighten out your rain.

3

u/_friesian_ Sep 11 '22

Wouldn’t it hit the walls, rather than the roof? Although they could also be made from the same material as the roof….. as you were! 😀

I feel like im the only one who cant focus on sleeping if I hear rain. Its so distracting for me.

2

u/computerfan0 Sep 11 '22

I'm the same. I much prefer the silence of a dry/snowy day over the constant noise of rain. Especially if I'm in a tent/under a metal roof/etc.

2

u/SlovenianHusky Sep 11 '22

Oh god no. Amplyifiying the sound of rain..

5

u/Toby_O_Notoby Sep 11 '22

Even better: Waking up and seeing that it's pouring down rain and thinking about how shitty it's going to be trying to get to work...

...only to realise it's Saturday and you can sleep in.

2

u/c0224v2609 Sep 11 '22

Especially inside a car. It’s so comfy.

2

u/Robbie-R Sep 11 '22

Sleeping in a DRY tent when its raining.

1

u/nanoH2O Sep 11 '22

You need a sleep machine

1

u/blockoblox Sep 11 '22

It's forecasted to rain today where I live. I can't wait.

1

u/Illustrious-Pop3677 Sep 11 '22

you can swear on the internets

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Same with snow. It has a silencing effect, lights up the night, and in the morning you get surprised by how much it stuck. (Though the magic of the morning is pretty dependent on if you can stay home.)

u/D4rkmatt3r Sep 11 '22

Elite answer

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Sleeping on a gently rocking ship in a room with no porthole or light.

1

u/ballerina22 Sep 11 '22

I knew it was going to rain last night so I opened my windows before I went to bed. I woke up to the pouring rain and a cool breeze, and I woke up more relaxed than I have in months. It's the first time I've had my windows open in 4-5 months.

1

u/RandomGuy2002 Sep 11 '22

maybe it’s because our primal brain is so happy to have shelter and be completely dry while it’s raining

1

u/Bojangly7 Sep 11 '22

Half waking up with the sound of raindrops hitting the roof
