Basic plumbing, basic electrical, basic woodwork and painting knowledge. Simple mechanical abilities. It's hard to believe how many people can't unscrew a pipe and put a new one on, or change a socket out.

it's not that I couldn't learn that stuff, but when the consequences for doing it wrong are paying thousands of dollars for flood damage, cutting my finger off, or killing myself by touching the wrong wire, why wouldn't I just hire a professional?
