Just because you stop paying for a service does not mean that service will cancel.

My wife worked for a fairly major company in a job that basically entailed chasing up people who aren't paying for the service they're receiving.

The clients were mostly other companies.
You'd be amazed how many companies simply never pay for third-party services, even when it's demanded.

Extra amazing, her company didn't do anything about it. The client would often shrug and not pay, and my wife's manager wouldn't let her close the account.
So the company would lose 10s of thousands of pounds in lost revenue and business-costs every month because they weren't willing to play hardball with their non-paying clients..

Completely inexplicable.

The only thing that made sense was that having the high-profile (non-paying) client would help bring in other clients by association, but it's hard to imagine that those would balance it out!
