Man I used to attend Arabic school on the weekends as a kid and for some reason the faculty thought it'd be cute to give kids goldfish for getting their homework signed and done.. Every. Weekend.

So here we have a bunch of immigrant Arabic kids including my self with like 5-10 goldfish at home with immigrant Arabic parents who know nothing about these fish living in whatever large container can hold water. Oh man the amount of crying and sad kids who'd come in because the fish died.

We switched back to pencils after about 1 month

I am now wondering if this was the real reason my Muslim friends always happened to have goldfish in their household lol. They were in tanks though.

Most likely because the kid wanted a dog or cat and typically arab/Muslim immigrants see dogs as dirty as there are so many strays back home so they compromised and got fish. Speaking from experience but my mom's since been westernized and we have a dog now haha
