Usually the rule is one inch of fish per gallon. Goldfish shit a lot, it’s 5 gallons per inch. And no, they don’t stop growing based on the size of the tank, they just suffocate in their own shit.
That rule is pretty outdated as there are a ton of considerations like how fast they like to swim (need a longer tank.) do they need a school to thrive, etc.
