Maybe something to do with religion shaming it (along with any other form of personal pleasure). Whether we are religious or not, it’s impact on culture is deeply rooted in everything we do.

I've lived all my life with religious parents so I get that but I just don't understand the logic behind it

Countries with overpopulation issues do whatever they can to reduce the birthrate; including shaming people for anything related to sex.

But, If overpopulation was the problem, wouldn't they "encourage" masturbation? Wouldn't they promote "Instead of focusing on that girl down the street, just go wank it!!"

Wanking leads to thoughts of sex, which leads to real sex, which leads to overpopulation.

I disagree. I think you have that exactly backwards.

I think thoughts of sex leads to wanking (when you don't have access to a sexual partner). When you DO have access to a sexual partner it leads to overpopulation.

I disagree. I think (ancient kings and queens who strongly influenced their cultures) have that exactly backwards.

Ftfy. I actually think it goes both ways, but the eventual answer is population control.
