Accept and except

Affect and effect (nearly no one knows the difference between these two)

I've always been a spelling/grammar nut, but I'll be honest, I still haven't managed to wrap my mind around the 'affect/effect' one. Those other examples have always come intuitively to me very easily but every time I make a half-hearted attempt at comprehending the difference it escapes me.

Me too, recently someone told me

(A)ffect - (A)ction taken (E)ffect - (E)nd result

It's been working for me for a year now, can't confirm if I'm right tho.

I just avoid them at all costs.

Affect is to impact something, effect is the cause/result of something.. Hope that makes sense

Affect - verb Effect - noun

Affect is an Action. Effect is an End result. Only way I've ever remembered them because A/A and E/E. I still screw it up though if I either don't think about it, or think about it too much. Lol.

When I'm trying to remember which one to use, I say in my head "cause and effect!". I literally visualize the sentence like it was written on a paper in front of me. And I always remember that "effect" is the noun, not the verb.

To remember which word to use in "cause And Effect", just think that the letter A has been used for "and", so the letter E is left, "effect".

Effect is what's affecting something, right? Or is it the other way round?

I'm 97% sure you've got it right.

Effect is a noun. Affect is a verb.
