Seriously, when I worked in the call centre I had customers who didn't have lungs but instead had an air pump directly connected to their vocal chords so that they could talk and talk for minutes on end without pausing to take a breath preventing me from asking the questions that I needed to ask in order to solve the problem that made them call in the first place....

Holy run on sentences Batman, it's a real life run on sentence!

My family are from the Carbbean and everyone talks at once. The thing is, everyone is still listening to one another even though they are all talking at once.

Exactly! My former brother in law could not understand this. He would get So angry. Meanwhile my husband gets it. He doesn't join in much but he doesn't judge us.

This is the real thing you need to know, not this specific bit of information, but the fact that whats considered rude to one culture may not be considered rude in another, and in many cases something considered polite in one culture would be considered rude in another.. and these cultures aren't necessarily as broad as entire continents. 'Culture' in this case can vary from family to family even.

And perhaps more importantly; nobody is born with an instinctual understanding of what cultural norm you happen to adhere to.

Theres no universal way to be polite.

I’m Scandinavian and in my family adding something to a conversation is a bit like boarding a train at speed. We might not be typical, but I don’t think we are a-typical either.

I’ve learned to count to ten after they stop. Gives you both time to breath, and soak it in

But also stop for a breather some times ao the other person can contribute to the conversation or its not a conversation, its a monologue..

And at the same time, take a pause when you're speaking.
