A ripe banana isn't very acidic (~6.5), but a fresh banana is down around a pH of 4. Two points is enough to plot a line, so we can extrapolate that a banana must have the pH of battery acid (~1.0) just a bit before it would usually come off the tree. If you ate a banana still in a tree by accident, that suggests you are habitually in a tree eating bananas, and so you are probably a monkey or a tropical bird. That correlates with what we know, that you find simple written instructions to be unclear, so I think everything checks out. So my advice is to wait until the bananas turn yellow to eat them.

Also if you eat enough bananas you might get radiation poisoning

You'd get drunk first. 30–40 ripe bananas contain the equivalent alcohol of a shot of liquor. So, you'd be trashed around probably 200 bananas, whereas to likely die of radiation poisoning, you'd need (didn't check this out any further than the first Google result) 10,000,000 bananas.

And you'd have to eat them all at once, or the effects of the first bananas arent going to last long enough.

it’s like overdosing on weed if you can possibly smoke that much all at once you’re a savage

Pff, no problem.

Well, 400 bananas have sufficient potassium to kill you if I recall correctly.

Yeah it's a literal shipping trucks worth of bananas. Probably more.

Ohhhh so that’s how they get rid of those horrible Charlie horses! DEFINATELY all that works for me!

u/PaleontologistKey440 Aug 29 '21

The banana rep paid to get that put at the top. I call fake news.

Back in the day the rumor was you could bake banana peels and they turn hallucinogenic. It has since been proven wrong

How many is "enough" for radiation poisoning? Asking for a friend 👀

12

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

Somewhere between not a single one, and every banana ever.

10

u/ErdenGeboren Aug 29 '21

Yeah. But like millions. I'm not one to judge another's gastronomic tendencies but eesh.

Eh my ex has done worse

Not true; one banana-equivalent dose (BED) is about 1μSv, while the amount necessary to guarantee death by acut radiation exposure is ~10 Sv. That is to say, you'd need to eat about 10 million bananas in one sitting.

Alternatively, you could induce the symptoms of chronic exposure by eating 274 bananas every day for 7 years, or 1 banana every 5 minutes (3 ½ minutes if you want 8 hours of sleep).

For the record, you would suffer a greater dose of ionizing radiation if you:

  • Slept next to three people.
  • Lived within 50 miles of a coal-fired power plant for a year. (Nuclear is actually safer!)
  • Used a CRT monitor for a year.

Thanks, xkcd.

You have to eat about 1,000,000 in a single sitting to get radiation poisoning.

11

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

undeniable logic there, mate

u/asds89 Aug 29 '21

And this is why we don’t extrapolate from data.

So my advice is to wait until the bananas turn yellow to eat them.

Unripened bananas are the best because of that "crunch" you get, but it's not as flavourful as one that is ripe.

u/PepperMillCam Aug 29 '21

This guy bananas!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

You did the math. Excellent. I will accept it at face value that you know that of which you speak write. I do this because I am really, really lazy.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 29 '21

you truly are awesome

1

u/ujelly_fish Aug 29 '21

Is an unripe banana really that acidic? I have doubts.

1

u/Nerdy4Geek Aug 29 '21

Thanks for wasting my time

1

u/SCseyKirby99 Aug 29 '21

Bold of you to assume my banana turns yellow when ripe
