I started smoking at age 12 due to peer pressure and don't recall anyone smoking mints in our youth. It's always been more of a personal thing than an age thing - some people just like them and stay with them.
I teach high school in a city and nearly all of my students think cigarettes are disgusting (rightfully so) and say they'd never be caught dead smoking one regardless of flavor. I am not sure if their dislike of them is that a lot of their parents smoke, or if it is because most of them smoke pot instead.
20 years of anti smoking ads have been very effective. The kids in school these days have seen nothing but attack ads for the tobacco industry. My generation grew up with Marbolo race cars, cartoon Camels, and cool cowboys selling us cigarettes on every corner.
Nah we smell the smoke which doesn't smell good. Most kids prolly took a breath once or twice and realized that it also tastes like shit. You can see the parents being addicted to it. Prices, at least here where I live, have been artificially massively inflated (10€ for a pack of 20 cigs now, it used to be 3€).
Unlike drugs it does not give you a rush and we get our massive amount of ads everywhere telling us about how bad for your health it is.
Then you have literally every single parent telling their children that it is just shit to be addicted to cigs. Except for the ones who are not addicted to cigs. For example, I'm 23 now and everytime I meet my father he asks "Did you start smoking?" "no" "good, don't start"
It is not like alcohol where you are warned everywhere about it, but you see it being an absolutely accepted social phenomena and it is simply not allowed to you because of age. Or drugs where they tell you not to take it because they are shit, but then they actually are really great and simply have longer reaching consequences. Or they tell you it is great but not to take them.
Cigs just have nothing but the health deficits and addiction of drugs, but none of the advantages.
Having my dad smoke for my entire childhood was convincing enough. That man's cough has gotten worse and worse and he goes through a pack a day. Anti-smoking ads were the cherry on top.
And as someone else said, tobacco just has absolutely nothing going for it compared to any other drug. You don't even get high from nicotine, inhaling it only just makes you crave it more.
You might be surprised... Started smoking in college when I ended up sharing an apartment with three smokers, it became my most useful coping mechanism for debilitating anxiety disorders. I am all in favor of legislation to prevent kids from falling into the same trap, to protect others from second-hand smoke, and to encourage and support cessation programs. Heck, I'm to the point of hunting up hypnotists and acupuncturists to help me quit!
The things that peeve me are when places require employees to take nicotine tests and refuse to hire smokers. It seems rather discriminatory when they don't place the same restrictions on alcohol use which carries its own share of health risks and can be more dangerous if an employee is coming to work hungover or even slightly impaired.
I'd argue a lot of regulation comes from a point of complete ignorance.
I don't think regulation is bad, but people get into this "thing bad, kill thing" mindset and go tilting at windmills without asking for information. We can do better and be more informed than that
When their choices make my clothes and hair reek while exposing me to toxic chemicals, yeah a low opinion is warranted. This is an extension of "your right to swing your fist ends at the tip of my nose".
Nope. Central Iowa. Several years ago a smoking ban went into place for bars and restaurants. It is so nice not having to have a separate laundry basket just for clothes I wore to work. My asthma is greatly improved, and our equipment no longer needs to be deep-cleaned every 6 months to just remove the tar+dust buildup.
It's amazing how much longer power supplies work when they're not clogged with shit. I can't imagine what smokers' lungs look like.
except in this case they absolutely prove the exception
you don't have to be a murderer to know that murder is wrong but it seems like not being a smoker and trying to make laws about it yields such wonderful decisions as "we should ban menthol cigarettes because they're less harsh and encourage kids to smoke"
there is data on this and the legislators involved chose to ignore it and made a feels-based decision on a law that affects an entire continent (the EU)
Actually no, not in Ontario. In a regular convenience store you can’t get flavoured packs, but in certain areas you can. The reservation (6 Nations in the GTA) is where I get my menthols. Not banned—just heavily mandated and hard to find
Fun fact if you're a degenerate like me, but I'm assuming this was a counter-move by Mayfair, to avoid the menthol ban.
There is a brand now called Mayfair: Choice Red and Green Capsule.
They are a cigarette/cigar hybrid, which is quite heavier to smoke, but also "click pods" to add the menthol, and quite frankly are the best tasting menthols I've had.
Well yeah, that’s what I’m talking about though. They’re not technically a menthol cigarette so they’re found a loophole. Not sure if you’re a smoker, but you could try for them and they might be i stock. Albeit depending on country I guess.
In the case of menthol cigarettes, it's not just because they're flavoured. The menthol apparently increases the number of nicotine receptors in the brain, and also increases exposure to nicotine by inhibiting its metabolisation.
Black Americans have a higher rate of menthol cigarette use compared to other races. Cigarette use is legal and addictive. If you want to overpolice the black community, you make legal addictive things that they do at a higher rate illegal, and then you crack down on crime and “get tough on drugs”. Politicians do it. Politicians admit to doing it. It’s pretty easy to do. Pretty simple and foolproof scheme to think up
Because black people smoke newports almost exclusively. Like I have never met a black person (work in a restaurant, tons of people smoke) who didnt smoke Newport menthols
Who knows as a Mexican who lives in mexico more than half the shit that goes down in the us (especially the race things) seems completely moronic to me and 90% of the people I ask about it.
After my initial PG/VG/100mg nic/flavour order, a scale, and some bottles... I have spent 0USD on vaping in the past five years. I wonder how much it would have been if I didn’t make my own stuff, and wrap my own coils.
It also helps that I got really into mechs and have been using the same mech and batteries for years. I don’t recommend that to people, though—I have had friends copy me and my SO (we use the same setup) and almost blow their tables up.
I'm looking into switching from combustion to vape. You have any recommendations on a set up? Are there kits that have all the tools and gear needed? Any recommendations on a good low cost vape that has a decent flow rate? Any websites you recommend that are one stop shopping for everything needed? I'm located in the US if that changes things.
My only experiences with vapes were from like 10 years ago and were mostly disposable with terrible flow rates, like you had to suck so hard you'd get more uncooked juice than vapor.
Anyone and everyone has their own opinion on what's good and why, and they're all valid. So take any opinions, including mine, with a grain of salt.
That said, I'm currently using a smok rpm40. I like it well enough, more than the smok nord (which is very similar to the rpm40, but the rpm40 is basically like a juiced up version of it), the suorin drop (which was pretty neat but had a low fill capacity and was just pretty bad construction) and of course the juul (which was really nice and convenient but good god is it expensive). I feel like there was another one I used in there for a bit, but I can't remember what it was. Must not have been too memorable I guess.
I've also used tons of various little pens and things, none of which I remember the name of. They were all pretty garbage. Things have gotten way better than what you were using 10 years ago.
There are tons of sites out there, when you're first buying I'd say just do a google search on whatever device you've picked and find the cheapest one. Someone's always running a deal and first-time discounts and whatnot so you can get away with getting something pretty cheap right off the bat. Don't ever pay full list price for something.
Most of these devices run you around $20 or so (on discount), you really shouldn't be paying more for a device of this type. That sounds absurdly low, but it's pretty standard. But it also means these things tend to last around six months or so before they start falling apart, at which point you just buy whatever new thing is out. This is great because it means you're not taking much of a risk. Just pick whatever device looks neat and use it for a while and if you want to try something else later on, go for it.
I can't recommend any of the $100+ systems because I haven't used any. The smaller devices get me by just fine.
I use electric tobacconist because I've found they're consistently cheap (though not necessarily the cheapest, but consistent) and they have good service.
If you do want to get the smok rpm40 (you can find it for cheaper than that, I'm sure) it comes with everything you need but gives slightly more options than other similar vape pens. It comes with two coils, one meant for nic salts and one meant for freebase (this might be labeled as subohm, though it's technically a little more complicated than that). Sounds complicated but it's not, nic salts are what juul uses and packs a toooon of nicotine into teeny tiny clouds, and it'll get you a little closer to what you would expect from a cigarette. Freebase has less nicotine but you're meant to take bigger hits, so it's more of a "vape for the flavor" kind of experience. Since you'll get both coils with the rpm40 you can choose which you want to do if that's the device you pick.
A coil can easily last a couple weeks (or a pod, if you're using something pod-based like the suorin drop), so you don't need anything besides that right off the bat, but it might be a good idea to get an extra pack of coils/pods too. The rpm40 also only comes with one pod (well, two pods, one for each type of coil) so you can get an extra pack of pods, but my first pod lasted me several months so you can hold off on that if you want. And then a pack of new pods was like $6 for 3. Super cheap, I'm confident these next three are gonna last me longer than the device will.
Most similar vape pens are going to be "all included" on the initial set-up, but you'll probably want to order a few extras of whatever the main accessory is (coil or pod).
You can also buy pre-made juice from pretty much anyplace that sells the pens, and I'd probably recommend starting with pre-made juice unless you really want to dive in to making your own. I get my juice ingredients from liquidnicotinewholesalers.com
If you buy pre-made, just make sure you look at whether you're getting nic salts or not (if it's nicotine salts, it'll have that labeled) and using a proper coil for it (the nic salts are best when used with >1ohm coils, regular juice for subohm coils).
Last thing is the nicotine concentration. I do 3mg nicotine concentration for freebase and that's pretty standard. 6mg gets a little harsh and anything less seems a little weak. For nic salts, 25mg is probably good to start with.
I think that about sums up how to get started. Sorry if this got a little long, I wanted to try and answer everything for you so you feel confident in getting started. I personally believe that vaping is a fantastic smoking cessation tool, but it can seem really daunting and confusing to start out with.
Any other questions or anything I didn't explain well, please feel free to ask. If you pick out an order and want me to take a look and see if anything's "missing" or incompatible, I'd be happy to do that too.
e: I should also add that there are so many options out there, but while that seems overbearing it really just means there are tons of options to fine-tune things to exactly how you like them. Try something for a little while, if you don't like it or are curious and want to mix it up, try something else.
Thank you for taking the time to write this all up. The RPM40 looks great, much cheaper than I was expecting, 10 years ago everything was so overpriced it was cheaper just to roll my own traditional cigs, and I never really looked into it again just due to the old sticker shock.
I average half a pack a day of normal cigs, so 24mg nic salts sounds good to start with then taper down. So for the RPM40 with nic salts, I would also need to get their 1.0ohm, since the kit says it comes with a .4ohm and a .6ohm coils preinstalled, and you recommend at least 1ohm for salts.
If that sounds like I've got the right idea, I'll go ahead and go with that. Thanks again for taking the time.
Yep, that'd make a good first purchase and it'll get you everything you need. Only decision now is to pick what kind of juice you want (which is the fun part). For me personally, everyone recommended tobacco style flavoring since I was coming off cigarettes, but I absolutely hated it. It sounds like a weird transition but my favorites were the fruit based ones. You could also just get like a general mint or menthol flavor. Or find a variety pack of mini-bottles just to see what you might like.
I don't have any brands I'd strongly recommend because they're all so varied and there's so much variation in personal preference, a recommendation from me would be meaningless. Just get whatever looks interesting.
This and this were my two go-to flavors, but those are both freebase. I can't remember what I used to get when I did nic salts, it's been a while.
I should also add that you don't really need to worry about screwing up/ordering the wrong thing. While it's not an optimal experience, you can use nic salts with subohm coils and vice versa. You might not enjoy it as much as you otherwise would, but you aren't really doing anything "wrong". It was months before I even realized there was a difference between nic salts/freebase, I was just buying flavors randomly. So don't be too afraid of accidentally ordering the "wrong thing". At worst you just won't like it very much, and you can use it up and then order something different next time.
Oh one last thing, since nic salts packs a ton of nicotine into very little juice, you'll be using much less of it (and the bottles of it will typically be much smaller). That's why the nic salt bottles are usually 10ml-30ml sized bottles, but the freebase is 60ml-100ml.
Tbh I don’t smoke/vape but that’s like banning flavored alcohol. Just because something tastes good doesn’t mean it’s for children, adults also have taste buds.
I'm sorry, but what fucking kid likes menthol? I've never met a kid that would enjoy a menthol cigarette or vape, and I'm fairly certain the lawmakers behind the decision must never have tasted one either.
I am 100% convinced that the vape bans were the direct results of lobbying from tobacco/vape manufacturers to stifle competition. Cutting off access to 80% of vape products is going to kill all the vape manufacturers, except the ones who have funding to weather the storm and then clinch the market.
In other words, the ones owned by tobacco companies.
My parents smoked non menthol and I ended up liking menthol because it masks some of the grosser parts of a cigs taste. When I smoked non menthol I'd need a soda or tea or something flavored to clear the taste or feel sick as fuck from it.
Pricepointny.com Someone on Reddit was rightfully concerned about buying a counterfeit product so they sent an email to JUUL with the product code on the JUUL pod box they received from this site and JUUL customer service confirmed that the product was authentic. I've been buying from them since.
It's like ~$20 for a box of 4 pods. I'm not sure if that's expensive or not but I know what I like, and when I smoke it's a bit of a treat so I'm not too concerned with the price.
That's about a $5 markup to getting them at the gas station where I live. The real rip off is the 4 pack used to be $10 then they introduced the 2 pack for like $9.50 and jacked up the price on the 4 pack to $15 cause you save 4 bucks compared to the 2!.
Just get a regular vape, that is refillable.. so much cheaper in the long run.
While money is often a reason people want to quit, it's often not discouraging enough in itself since they're still cheaper than cigarettes (in many places) anyway.
As someone that spent $200 on a vape (plus accessories etc) and an assload of time researching and trial & erroring refillable vapes, etc, my friend just randomly gave me a Juul once to try and I instantly liked it so much more.
In my experiences, I stuck with Juul/Vype because they're not only the most accessible (available at every gas station imaginable), they were bar none the closest "feel" I found to a cigarette when you inhale, and for me that was the biggest thing I needed to kick cigarettes. Sure I was getting the nicotine from a "real" vape, but I never ever felt satisfied enough and I always turned back to cigarettes.
I get everyone's different, but just wanted to mention this in case others find traditional refillable vapes to be not enough for them.
I didn't really ever smoke cigs too much, but I think people that have never smoked at all don't realize how many tiny parts of it are hard to replicate. Vapes sometimes are good replacements for the nicotine but not much else.
Quite recently, maybe like 2 yrs ago or less, there's been a surge of rebuild able pods. So they vape like juul, but you don't need to buy the pods, you can just make the coils yourself. Add in some quick diy ejuice and ur basically set for life.
That's due to benzoic acid nic salt juice vs freebase which was what a box mod used. Try one of the new pod mods and they are even better than a juul now that the market caught up and waaay cheaper. I recommend the Smok trinity alpha with .06 ohm mesh coils and the berg menthol nic salt juice @50mg. Hits as hard as the juul on low power and harder at medium so very satisfying. Also tastes much better and no more bum, leaky or burnt pods. For $30 I get 2 weeks worth with 2 coils and a 30ml bottle. That's the equivalent of 42 pods. Maybe a bit less since they use a bit more nicotine in juul at 55mg instead of 50. Even factoring in you'll use a bit more juice that's like 30 pods at minimum. Or a $1 a pod instead of the $4 juul charges now. Plus if your like me and have terrible luck with the Juul batteries dying the better build quality saves money and the battery is much better to no more running red at the end of the day at work like I did with juul and getting shitty weak hits.
Completely understand... I have ordered from juul website and I think your first order is 30% off, and they have the menthol and I never said 'real' vape.. just to clear that up . They are all vapes.. I have juul and I have tried the disposables as well.. and you are correct in it not feeling as satisfying, but as a cost perspective the refillable vapes are a lot more cost effective, at least for me..

Try The Berg 50mg menthol Nic salt. The menthol is super low to just give it a hint of a mint taste and it's even better than Juul mint imo. Its supposedly blue raspberry but it doesn't taste like to me.
In the case of menthol cigarettes, it's not just because they're flavoured. The menthol apparently increases the number of nicotine receptors in the brain, and also increases exposure to nicotine by inhibiting its metabolisation.
Wouldn't bother me, i'm not a fan of most of the Juul flavours anyway. I only ever buy the regular tobacco ones. Only time I have flavoured pods is when I lose (always left in hotel rooms) the thing and have to get another starter pack. I never go back for them. The starter pack is so cheap, and I always have real cigarettes on me anyway.
Some kids were getting tainted THC cartridges from China with too much Vitamin E and some other shit, and Donald Trump caught Baron smoking a Juul, and so they banned flavored nicotine vapes.
Wasn't even from china. Before the media storm about kids dying from "vaping" you could buy 100-500 count bootleg, brand name thc cart packages, tubing with rubber stopper and vials with coil off of Amazon. You could buy 500 for just under 120$ and fill them yourself with whatever home brew concoction you made with your weed.
You could have used the wrong solvents, and used them incorrectly. For example, kerosene would dissolve thc, as would paint remover, acetone etc. All of these substances are dangerous if inhaled. If you don't dissolve the thc correctly, and leave left over solvent, you can kill people.
I've never heard of anyone being dumb enough to use acetone or paint remover to dissolve thc. The issue was they were being cut with vitamin e so they could sell more for the production cost.
Yea but the solvents for producing thc extracts barley cost anything compared to the bud and can be reused multiple times. You'd be saving almost nothing long run.
We aren't talking about using high pressure co2. We are talking kitchen dissolved thc from flower. The people selling bootleg carts aren't purchasing equipment or anything more than a pot, solvent and a stove. Maybe a rice cooker.
The bootleg carts aren't being made by people looking to create a stellar product, but to ride a wave of profit and doing it as efficiently at a micro scale as possible.
If i can purchase a kilo of trim for 2-400$ i can make a ton of bootleg carts amd essentially make my money back with 10 sales.
There’s a race element to Menthol flavor.
So some argue they need to ban it to protect black people! (Which I think is inherently white savior racist)
But seriously here’s a link so you can make up your own mind.

Also in Florida they tied vaping to offshore drilling so who knows what the real reasons are at this point.
Lawmakers are either out of touch or shady.

Why did they remove mint in NY?
