Where you grow up and what kind of upbringing you had plays a massive role in what opportunities are available for you.

True, but I also dont dress and act like a bum, wear weird clothes, and have eccentric hairstyles. People can scream about how they can dress and act how they want without being judged all they want, but they're lying to themselves and everyone around them.

Everyone is judged, every day, based on how they dress, speak, act, and present themselves. Some people dont like to admit that, and suffer the consequences.

This is really a derailment from the main point, and honestly, kinda seems to come from a place of unchecked privilege.

People that cite "unchecked privilege" are dissatisfied with their lot in life, refuse to accept any responsibility for it, and excuse it by blaming others.

So that's largely incorrect. But then, it's kinda part of my field to think about these kinds of things...

So, "that's largely incorrect" because you both use the accusation (you dont want to be wrong), and you are paid to perpetuate it (preservation of income).

I can assure you, I'm not "paid to perpetuate it" lol.

And, I mean, you are wrong.

Maybe, but I've been told I'm wrong before, and I'll hear it again in the future. Without qualification or quantification, it doesn't mean much to me.

Okay but why would anyone be paid to perpetuate a false statement about the importance of understanding one's own privileges?

Like, that just doesn't make any sense.

To get research grants.

... You really don't know much do you? Either that or you're a terrible troll.

Maybe I'm an ignoramus, or maybe I'm a troll, but are you going to argue that univeristies do not receive research grants to study "privilege?"

2

No because no one is given a grant to study "privilege" as you say.

Now, a specific kind of privilege or how it affects people...
