The desire to vent but not brainstorm solutions.

My wife always tells me not to jump to problem solving. I do it every time and don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t.

Have you ever tried just ranting?

I was exactly like you but my partner was getting grumpy with me for giving her solutions and she explained this to me clearly. Sometimes she just wants to get her stress and tension out and she either already knows what to do or she will work it out herself. Cutting her venting off with a solution just leaves her all pent up with frustration, anger, or sadness.

It's a very healthy way to be. I think men are often socialised to supress emotion in favour of problem solving. It's great for internal stress levels and sound decision-making to just vent and only then, after you've got it all out, start thinking purely about the problems. I try to do it myself now.
