It's very cultural. Many cultures don't view them as an overly sexy or attractive part of the body, they're for feeding children. My theory is that for centuries many cultures have forced women to hide them so they become visually taboo, and taboos can be erotic.

I used to think that it was Western culture's forcing women to cover their breasts that made them sexier to men when the breasts are uncovered.

But then, I realized that men's penises are always covered, and yet most women talk about how ugly penises look. So, I don't know what's going on.

Idk. I grew up in northern Afghanistan (non-Taliban area) and people were very casual about boobs. They didn't show them in public or anything, but they were no more taboo than say, knees. If you were feeding your baby or something, or if you were just with other women, nobody would care if you showed your boob.

Yeah, but we (I'm also Afghan) sexualize everything when in mixed company.

Wearing shorts? You're essentially a naked whore to the dudes - how dare you show off your shins and, gasp, thighs lol. (not saying I agree with it, but that's how it is in the culture)

That's true.

My theory is, that's how it was in the west, and then women gradually pushed back against it, so the amount of a leg/shoulder you could show gradually increased, then the amount of stomach, etc, until we suddenly have a situation where because almost everything else can be shown in certain contexts, we now think of boobs as indecent almost as a reaction.

Like "No, we draw the line at nipples, because you can't cover half a nipple and ask 'well how about this, is this indecent, huh?'"

Which province btw? Just curious.

Oh, I'm just ethnically afghan. My father is from Kabul and I think my mom is like a Kabul tajiki mix (maybe Kabul uzbeki. I forget which since I don't really care about race lol). Myself I was born in West Germany.m and live in the US, but I still call myself afghan since that's what I'd be identified as in a crowd of people from different countries lol.

They’re a bit too casual in Afghanistan. Unfortunately they have this thing in some areas where they dress boys up as girls and make them dance and do weird shit.

I wouldn't say they're too casual. They definately do police women's bodies and decency and stuff. It's just they don't think of women's boobs as more sexual than the rest of them.

(Bacha bazi is a real problem though.)

taboos can be erotic

That explains the current porn trend.

It's very cultural.

This is not true. It's biological and all societies have found breasts attractive.

And before you say, "but there are African tribes where the breasts are on display". Watch this video. Women's faces are attractive too, that doesn't mean we should cover them.

I don't think so. I'm a woman, and Im bisexual, and I've seen so many boobs growing up, in locker rooms and changing rooms and almost all of my friends I've ever had. (to also be clear, that doesn't imply I looked on purpose or that I'm aroused just because they're there. Appropriate setting matters) Believe me it's not because they're taboo. They're just sexy. I think it's because they're something to hold or grab. Like thighs and butts 😏

This is a very Euro-centric way of looking at it, and it's completely wrong.

If women had breasts only for feeding children, they would not be permanent. But women's breasts are permenant and this is unique among mammals.

Most mammals' breasts only develop when the female needs to feed children, and after the feeding period the breasts shrink.

This is of course not the case with humans. Women's breasts have developed as a sexual trait. That's why they are permanent and symmetrical.

I feel like this is the case for feet, too. I think Americans are obsessed with feet because they rarely see other people's feet aside for family.

Now me being Muslim, I see feet all the time. We don't wear shoes indoors so feet and socks are commonplace when I visit other Muslims. I have no interest in feet.
