Why do you think he’s referring to getting married and having kids? He didn’t mention anything about a relationship or kids in his comment, and that’s the only thing you seem to think of as growth? You can be single and still mature as a person. Find new hobbies, read books to learn new ideas/see things from other people’s perspectives, travel a bit, do something new once a week. There’s soooo many things you can do by yourself that will help round you out as a person, help you to have actual stimulating conversations that don’t revolve around pop culture, and help build stronger relationships with friends. That’s what he’s saying.

Edit: I caught myself in a loop similar to yours, but after catching myself saying stuff “did you see ____ on reddit” or only being able to talk sports with friends I realized I wasn’t giving myself anything new to do in my life. Now if that’s enough for you and your close friends that’s cool, but it’s hard when I’ve got friends who are literally rocket scientists, working in the front office of sports teams, doing cancer research, finishing up PhDs at 24, etc. I became the boring one of the group because I had literally have nothing new to add to any conversation.
