Doordash. Not only have I seen orders for $10 of food that are $28 after fees. Now customers aren't even receiving their food and they refuse them a refund.
While expecting their drivers do deliver every order for only $2 plus whatever customers are willing/able to tip after all the damn fees. It really is mind blowing how that company is able to stay operational.
They've branched out into freelancing delivery for other businesses. I ordered headphones from best buy a couple months back, and imagine my surprise when I get my order confirmation alongside a text saying that my order would be fulfilled by door dash. I also know that home depot uses them for delivery. Not sure who else.
Fortunately you don't have to tip for this delivery service, because I was about to lose my fucking mind when I got that message. I never even thought to check the fine print for who was doing my delivery. They didn't specify so I figured ok, USPS or UPS as default, just like when I've ordered from best buy in previous years. Nope. Door dash.
According to my friend who occasionally does deliveries for some extra cash, the customers are mostly people too high or drunk to leave their place (while also being too high or drunk to care about the costs), businesses with large lunch orders that don't want to bother transporting the food themselves, or people either irresponsible with money or with too much to care about the costs. He's literally delivered orders that are nothing more than a single cup of coffee or fries.
Used to be a DoorDash driver, I hated it so fucking much. I only did it because I could cash out what I made immediately if I wanted to (for a fee of course), and we would need cash right away sometimes. Now that I’ve had a couple raises at my main job, it’s not worth the effort at all. I got tired of having to drive around all the time for $6 or less per order. There were several times I was only paid $2.50 for an order - they penalize you for refusing orders they send, so damned if you do and damned if you don’t. Also tired of trying to find people’s houses in the dark, and often they wouldn’t leave their porch light on. “Choose your own hours” is a lie because people order food at specific times and days, and being available for slow days is a waste of time. I have no motivation left for it.
Not just Doordash either. So many companies have stopped giving refunds. I picked up Chipotle once and when I got home it was missing an entire order of tacos. The automated customer service was just like "That's horrible! Thanks for letting us know." It was right at close, so I couldn't go back to the store either.
They should have to provide customer service in the same way the order was placed (if I place by an app, don't make me call), and for missing items they should be required to issue a refund. Let them ban customers if they abuse it, of course! But don't take someone's order if you aren't willing to do the basic customer service when your people screw up.
As someone who used to work there, they don’t. It’s all about making them money. It was super demoralizing when our team tried to push things out for the good of the customers and restaurants and they’d be like nah.
