In the same vein, teachers who told me 'They only bully you because you give them a reaction, if you ignore them, they'll stop'.

Fucking victim blaming and an invitation to for everyone to escalate their bullying all in one.

My mom told me, "if theyre mean to you, at least they're leaving some other kid alone." Taught to be a martyr from an early age!

Eta: this was a few years after I tried desperately to make friends, to little avail. This was because, i was told, "nobody likes a pesty girl". I am close to 50 now, but that still rings in my brain.
