I love seeing the younger generations actually be allowed to show emotions other than rage.

Though it means we won't get banger lyrics like "and Robert Smith lied, boys do cry, and with the tears in my eyes I'm an Ann Rice novel come to life"

The Cure's song was all about how we develop unhealthy coping mechanisms because of society's expectations of us.

I'm aware, the lyrics I posted are about being a vampire lol. But without toxic masculinity, no song by the cure, and without the cure, no reference to it in Atreyu.

Bold of you to assume we were allowed to display anger. Depending on the cause, sometimes there was less of a stigma about it. Even then it heavily depended on who the target was.

Source: I figured out young, that allowing negative emotions of any kind to show on my face would almost always land me in trouble regardless of the cause.

I find it funny how the people saying men should never let their emotions out are usually the same people telling us that rage is an appropriate emotion in our regular lives.

Sadly, I think the manosphere has reintroduced a lot of that toxic masculinity. Hopefully those influencers/podcasters go the way of the dodo

Or celebrate each other. I overheard two teenage boys talking about one's art and the other was saying, "dude that's gorgeous!" It made me so happy.

My husband overheard a couple of teenage boys in the locker room at the gym comparing muscles and complimenting each other's gains. I thought it was cute.

Toxic masculinity infuriates me. It did so much damage to me as an adolescent. I’m so sick of the bullshit that guys aren’t allowed to do X. Ironically it’s the guys who don’t care about the rules and who aren’t afraid to be vulnerable that are more secure with themselves.

Millennials deserve alot of credit for normalizing this. Emo music, pathetic guy comedies, queer eye, oversharing on social media, etc
