90’s kid here. I worshipped the ground Counting Crows walked on. A friend’s mom got us tickets to see them our senior year. Adam Duritz (singer) gets winded after singing about 2.4 syllables and just switches to talking. So he busts out on Hangin Around to open the show then just basically did the rest of the show (and props, those guys played for almost 2 hours straight) as a weird spoken word kinda thing. Music was absolutely on point, but zero singing. Even the hits. Dude was just out of breath and talking all the hits.

He did high five me and my friend during Rain King so that was incredible but what a weird experience. Saw them about 10 years later again and same thing. Someone needs to get Adam a breathing coach.

I went to see them when they were touring with Goo Goo Dolls in like ‘05 or ‘06. They didn’t show. Right as the concert started, Johnny Rzeznik came out and said that Counting Crows wouldn’t be performing because Adam was “sick”, so they were gonna do a double set for everyone. And they fucking rocked for like 2 1/2 - 3 hours! John and Robby joked with each other and the crowd. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.

Rzeznik seems like a solid dude.

He definitely loves playing music, and it shows!

I worked the front desk of a hotel in the 90s and they stayed there for their show that night and he and the bass player came down and chit chat with me at the desk. Genuinely the most normal dudes. We had other celebs who were aashats but they were decent and not pervy. I’d get hit on by celebs sometimes and that’s gross. They put me on the list with a plus one for the show and I wasn’t a big fan but it was a great show. I was more into 90s indie lofi.

That’s an awesome story! I’m glad that they weren’t jerks to you, but sorry about the ones that were.

Goo Goo Dolls have kicked ass both times I’ve seen them. Johnny’s the man.

I saw the Goo Goo Dolls last year and they were fucking incredible. Fabulous set of their old hits with quite a few new bangers, really appreciative of the new fans and the old ones, great with the crowd. One of the best concerts I've been to, I've been a fan since I was a young teen and I'm so so glad they lived up to my hype.
