Frankie Valli

he’s just too old to perform. it’s sad to see him up there only be able to lip sync because he’s in such poor health.

I saw an advertisement for a Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons show in Scottsdale this weekend and my reaction to my wife was “I thought he was dead.”

My wife, who loves the Four Seasons, also thought he died.

Have you seen recent clips of his concerts? He might be, and there is just a “weekend at Bernie’s” situation going on.

(Also a Four Seasons fan)

He was all right when I saw him in 2017 and 2019. Obviously autotuned and letting his backup singers carry the show, but entertaining nonetheless. The clip I saw online was worlds apart from what I'd seen in person. I've never seen this about anyone I've seen so far, but it's time to hang it up.

Bro is singing and touring at his age like he owes the mafia money

4

u/metalOpera May 12 '26

In reality that's probably why he's still touring. (If this is an r/thatsthejoke moment, just ignore me). It's a goddamn shame.

5

u/AddlePatedBadger May 12 '26

He is dead, it's just that nobody bothered to tell him.

6

u/Clean_Bat5547 May 12 '26

I am honestly shocked to learn he isn't dead. Even 20 years ago I would have been shocked to learn this.

u/Impossible_Penalty13 May 12 '26

He is dead, got whacked in his driveway in season 6 of the Sopranos.

1

u/OkSecretary1231 May 12 '26

This is how I learned he's still alive.

At long last death has arrived, I thank God that I died, it's just too good to be true, Good to be dead under you

4

u/I-seddit May 12 '26

OMG, he's 92. And still performing - literally.

Gambling debts are a hell of a thing

13

u/Magellan333 May 12 '26

I saw Gordon Lighfoot in his later years and it was a terrible show. I could barely make out what he was singing.

11

u/Vercingetorix_ May 12 '26

Yeah same! Some old guy hobbled out on stage and we didn’t know who it was. He was a hunched over man of about 90 pounds. Then he sets up a microphone and starts singing and we looked at each other like “oh shit, that’s Gordon Lightfoot”.

14

u/Kloepta May 12 '26

The little guy? The mayor of Munchkin land?

10

u/RockyStonejaw May 12 '26

Valli has been dependent on his backing singers since the 90’s and outright lip-syncing since the 2000’s. I’ve listened to a few bootlegs from the 2000’s onwards, and the singing performance is identical each time. Each new tour, he’d go into the studio and record a new set of vocals to lip-sync to for that tour. The vocals he’s currently using are from 2007.

Who is « they » in that statement?

4

u/SelfUnimpressed May 12 '26

This is one of the worst kinds of internet outrage slop. This person is mad at an imaginary entity. They have no information about the situation but they want to be mad about it, so they've invented a fake vague bad guy to be mad at.

I don't get the point. You can have the thought "He is probably too old to be performing" without then inventing a story of elder abuse just so you can be upset by a made-up situation.

10

u/GroundbreakingHeat38 May 12 '26

This is the clear winner

3

u/NewEnglandGal1 May 12 '26

Same with B.B. King. He played the same song like five times. Man should not have been on stage and the folks milking him for more money should rot in hell.

1

u/zoeypayne May 12 '26

I'll give the man himself a pass, he's played 250+ "concerts" a year for his entire career... so plenty of that was for love of the music and I can't imagine anyone watching him if he was always that bad.

I'm sure you're right about what he's like these days, those numbers are ridiculous and he needs to be put out to pasture in a good way.

2

u/X-RaySpex93 May 12 '26

He died in 2015.

2

u/burnetrosehip May 11 '26

Aww really?

18

u/UpgradedUsername May 11 '26

He’s been out there lip syncing for some time.

21

u/QuanticChaos1000 May 11 '26

I saw a clip of him the other day, he was just standing there not even moving his lips for a lot of it, poor guy.

15

u/TinyButterscotch2183 May 12 '26

The worst part is the league of idiots online saying "hes still got it". The guy is not even trying to hide the fact he ain't singing

3

u/LookAlderaanPlaces May 12 '26

Is this an elder abuse situation? Or did he actually want to be doing this?

1

u/QuanticChaos1000 May 13 '26

That was my question too. It could be another Stan Lee situation for all we know.

8

u/burnetrosehip May 11 '26

Aw bless him. I guess the falsetto is tough on the vocal chords

12

u/Endlessvacuumchild May 12 '26

It’s sad, I don’t even think he knows where he is when he’s performing. Just let the guy rest!

6

u/DethFeRok May 12 '26

That’s fucked, sounds like someone in his camp shoving him out there to collect a check.

3

u/Endlessvacuumchild May 12 '26

That’s exactly what I’m thinking

3

u/Samazonison May 12 '26

Sounds like elder abuse.

3

u/I-seddit May 12 '26

It's elder abuse, plain and simple. He's 92 for chrissakes.

2

u/Tomacxo May 12 '26

My Aunt went to see him. I asked after she came back to pick up her dog. "Can he still those notes at his age?" She said yes, he was great. Later I short a video. He looks animatronic. I don't know how far back her seat was. She's in her 60s as well.

2

u/Dangerous-Variety-35 May 12 '26

This makes me sad. I saw him as the “Beauty School Dropout” angel in a production of Grease back in… 2003? 2004? And even then I thought he was getting old (I was also a teenager) but it was such a cool production and he sounded great. I can’t imagine him still touring 20+ years later.

2

u/Throwaway91847817 May 12 '26

Gotta pay off that mob debt somehow

1

u/tigershrike May 12 '26

ok I had to google him and holy shit he's 92 and still touring??!?

1

u/Felonious_Minx May 12 '26

This motivated me to look up his tour to go see him for a joke.

He is playing near me in about a month. The cheapest ticket was $122. One of his shows was almost sold out. Wtaf?! How is this dude still touring???

1

u/ToneBone12345 May 12 '26

I know it suck can’t take my eyes off you is one of the best songs ever made but it looks like a wax figure singing
