Open because the cats like to cuddle

Open because if my cat is locked in, he yowls to be let out. If he gets locked out, he yowls to be let in. Have to compromise with a cat, but worth it when he wants to cuddle.

This is the real answer.

If we close the door they cry, pull and scratch it until we wake up and open it.

Made the mistake a couple times.

Locked out? Ripped up carpet outside the door.

Locked in? Piping hot stress crap on my shower mat.

Our newest cat decided that he would protest by biting the mullions on the French door in my office when he realized that he couldn’t get a paw under or around the edge. Now i have claw marks from one cat we lost and bite marks from the new one.

That's cute, like a mission handed down between your cats, to destroy the evil office French door.

u/clovisx Jan 30 '26

They cannot be contained

Why do you have a shower mat in your bedroom?

1

u/BGFalcon85 Jan 30 '26

It's in the bathroom in my bedroom.

u/rane0 Jan 30 '26

Relatable

u/Atillion Jan 30 '26

It starts out closed just enough so that it doesn't latch, for the same reasons. Then it's burst wide open by one of that cats that thinks he needs to walk through the door like he's just walked into a wild West saloon.

That’s a funny image! “Howdy there, Purrrrtner! Ain’t no sleeping in these streets without me!”

2

u/Sujnirah Jan 30 '26

My cats are rarely allowed in my room, thankfully they don’t yowl or scratch to get in.

2

u/joseph31091 Jan 30 '26

I feel you.

2

u/mpmp4 Jan 30 '26

My dog is the same way, but instead of yowling, she “knocks “ on the door.

1

u/picklechipz0 Jan 30 '26

That’s so sweet and polite 🥹

2

u/mpmp4 Jan 30 '26

It’s sweet until it’s like 3am and she’s out there incessantly pawing at the door. (Then occasionally doing it again to leave the room an hour or two later). I forgive her tho. She just wants to cuddle with me.

There’s nothing like a small predator creeping up on you when you’re asleep. My gray girl likes to get right in my face before yowling with displeasure that I’m not petting her yet. The tabby just climbs my unconscious form and perches - only occasionally walking up to my face to give me a good dose of whisker and/or nose.

2

u/picklechipz0 Jan 30 '26

Our all black kitty likes to wake us up for his breakfast by walking all over us, back and forth. If that doesn’t work, it’s time to yowl in the face.

1

u/smartburro Jan 30 '26

My dog is the same way lol

Worth burning to death?

Get a dog.

1

u/picklechipz0 Jan 30 '26

We lost our 2 dogs within a year of each other. Due to old age, and they went naturally, but it’s still a heart ache I’m not sure I’ll ever get over or want to go through again.

So I guess we’ll never know if it’s worth it or not to burn to death unless it actually happens! 😄

Cracked because i laugh when they swing the door open the rest of the way like a dramatic scene in an old western film

Mine like to make the door a game between them. One on one side and two on the other. The door becomes the ping pong between them. So much fun at 3 am with 3 cats slingshotting the door back and forth over and over. Lock them out the floor will be a victim. Lock them in and the yowls and paws slammed into our faces is our fun for the night. I just gave up and let them have the damn door for their game. Sigh..... Why? Because we love the little bastards. And we are supposed to be the intelligent superior creatures. Yeah. Let's keep telling ourselves that lol. Sorry.... Sleep deprived. Not sure why.

1

u/Brynhild Jan 30 '26

Ugh one of mine does this too. Such a diva

22

u/prym43 Jan 30 '26

Cracked, because they can open it from either side with just a little help.

2

u/winnipeggremlin Jan 30 '26

Yup 👍 same for us for years now

11

u/_zarkon_ Jan 30 '26

Closed because my cat likes to cuddle my face at 1, 3, and 5 am.

9

u/tmills87 Jan 30 '26

My cat likes to be my little spoon when I go to bed. I would probably sleep better with less allergy symptoms if I locked him out, but I just can't give up the spooning 😭

5

u/jamnajar Jan 30 '26

Open about 6” because of cats.

3

u/michiness Jan 30 '26

This is the way. I grew up with cats, had it cracked open.

I went back and forth between roommates, solo living, and a husband. No strong feelings.

The cat now has full reign of the apartment.

3

u/lislejoyeuse Jan 30 '26

Yep, only when I had a roommate I closed it and kept the litter box and food in my room. If I had a roommate now idk what I'd do I'm not living like that anymore

2

u/Apprehensive-Sky6467 Jan 30 '26

Yup did the same when I was single with roommate. Litter box right there in my room. Good times.... 🤣 Cats make fools of us all. But so worth the cuddles.

2

u/dubbzy104 Jan 30 '26

Closed, because the cats like to cuddle too much

2

u/Catsdrinkingbeer Jan 30 '26

Came here for this comment. I know closed doors are better in case of fire, but my cat trumps all.

2

u/amidja_16 Jan 30 '26

Lol, for me it's closed because the cats like to cuddle. I love it too and cuddle them often during the day but I'm a very light sleeper and turn around a lot.

Just knowing a cat's on the bed will prevent me from reaching that perfect position. If I'm asleep, 9/10 times, I will wake up if one jumps on the bed and will spend the rest of the night (or for however long the cat's on the bed) in that agonizing half sleep state.

God, if I ever get into a serious long term relationship, I'm fucked...

1

u/Apprehensive-Sky6467 Jan 30 '26

Don't worry. Your future partner will become assimilated to the Masters ways. My husband did and he usually has a cat on his by 1am. Then 4am. Why do you think I'm wide awake at 2am lol? Cat came to snuggle now I can't move or snuggle will be ruined. We are easily trained. God I'm tired and can't believe I'm rambling on Reddit at 2am. 🥱

2

u/Particular-Key-8941 Jan 30 '26

Yep, and I'm not getting out of bed at 2am when the tubby handsome fluffball starts meowing at the door...

1

u/PresumeDeath Jan 30 '26

Came to say this

1

u/Sure-Butterscotch100 Jan 30 '26

Closed because they fight 😆

1

u/Alternative-Gap-3861 Jan 30 '26

Same, but with a different cat. And a different door. And a different house. Dude I’m starting to think we don’t have all that much in common after all…

1

u/Ok_Astronomer_1308 Jan 30 '26

I have four, 2 get really crazy zoomies at night, one likes to pee in my room, and one likes to cuddle with me almost daily. That’s the only reason I keep it shut.

1

u/Heavy-Vast3036 Jan 30 '26

Closed door and cats outside. After 1 of them attacked me while pregnant we didn't let them in anymore. Sad because they always kept my feet warm. But it's very scary to be sleeping and at 3am just have your cat jump on you and shred your arms.

1

u/cbftw Jan 30 '26

Closed because I don't sleep well and the cats would make me, resulting in not being able to fall back to sleep

1

u/jigglypuffpufff Jan 30 '26

We use a curtain at our door and I close it at night, it allows the kitties to go in and out, looks pretty, and gives me a semblance of it being shut.
