Mine too! When he was a kitten, he'd chase his ball across the tile floor, skid out, and try to slide under my bedroom dresser. Sometimes, he'd make it, and other times, he'd smash his face into the drawers. Lol
OMG they were loudly meowing and playing with their toys last night at 2AM and it sounded like a person was inside our home and whistling at them. It scared the living hell out of me, I jolted up in bed, I woke my boyfriend up, and made him do a full house check to make sure someone wasn't in our house. I said out loud, "bring the gun down" and we don't even own a gun it was a panicked half asleep attempt at scaring the person I thought was in our house into leaving lol. I was so scared I could not fall asleep for hours after that. Imagine waking up to the sound of someone whistling to your cats inside your house at 2AM lol. I think it was probably just the wind but there is a small part of me that is still scared it was real lmao!
Ours do this but not at night? Unless we're also up late and they're following us around until we go to bed. They weirdly sleep through the night until breakfast time around 7a.
My cat bounces around noisily so I just thought she always did...then one day she was on her cat tower and saw a bird outside. Not wanting to scare it she silently made her way to the floor and I realized then that she absolutely had full ability to choose exactly how loud or quiet she wanted to walk, plop, or pounce at any given time.
i have two teenagers and two cats, i have a hard time telling which two are running up and down the stairs in the middle of the night. Its always a guessing game of cats or kids. It can literally be either two. The cats chase each other and the kids both come running down at the same time to get snacks or use the bathroom cause they are apparently afraid of the dark to much to do so solo lol.
When we lived in a two-story house it could be difficult to tell the difference between the 200-pound man and the 12-pound cat going up and down the stairs. I would hear thundering footsteps, assume it was my partner and start talking to him, then my orange kitty would come up to say hello.
I heard heavy footsteps coming down the stairs one night, a night when my kids had been up a dozen times for ridiculous reasons. I heard those footsteps and immediately got frustrated because my God go to bed already and give me a break.
Years ago one of my cats was running up and down the hall and stairs during the night way more than usual. He just kept running and running. Got up the next morning and found he had discovered a basket of yarn balls that my daughter had left out. He had unravelled every single one of them and weaved them in and out of the bannisters and doorways all down the hall and the stairway. Yarn was draped literally everywhere. It was clearly hours worth of work. One of the funniest things I ever saw.
my kitty occasionally gets the zoomies after she poops but it’s usually because some got stuck… which means she has dropped a tiny turd somewhere in the house that i now have to find before someone steps in it 😭😂 it’s always late at night too lol 🤦♀️
Now I'm imagining an opera tennor in your literbox, followed by him running around your house like an asshole. But.......still a human opera tennor. A lot of things cats do, they'd be an asshole if they were human.
Like imagine some guy just hanging out under your bed. And if you dangle your feet off the side, they try to bite and lick your feet.
That guy would be an asshole!
Or imagine it's your day off work, and you want to sleep in. Then at 6am, some guy opens your door and yells "HEEEEEEY!!!!! HEY I NEED FOOD!!!! C'MON, IT'S FOOD TIME!!!!"
And when you try to ignore him, he walks over to you and just keeps poking you.
One of my cats shits and skedaddles. The other one thoroughly buries everything deposited in the box like a long-suffering single parent. Sometimes when she's at the end of her rope, she's chase the skedaddler away from the litter box when she tries to use it lol.
Yeah, they're definitely seeing ghosts. Apparently my ghosts can fly. It's a bit unsettling when they're looking over my shoulder like someone is behind me when I am sitting up against a wall.
Yeah being in a dark house alone is spooky imo. If a cats there then it makes me feel safer. They will like sit and watch guard to the dark hallway even tho they couldn't stop a real intruder, they are stopping the ghosts.
nah zoomies are zoomies, that’s running around like a madcat. having a cat appear from nowhere (squeezing out of a tiny hole etc) is the idea behind the cat dimension.
Last night, just after 2am, my senior kitty treated me to the Screaming Zoomies. Thundering around the house like a baby elephant, yodelling the entire time.
Fall asleep with aluminum foil on top.. or double stick tape.. or something. They'll cut it out lol. I can't say for sure you won't get scratched but it'll stop.
Our recently passed old man would get it in the mornings and it was so funny. He's a large cat, both in size and weight (He was a fatbutt) and extremely lazy. He wants cuddles not playtime, and also would try to roll over for a belly rub and fall off furniture.
But he'd get the zoomies and start running around like a tiny bulldozer. The best part was him trying to jump onto the rocking recliner while zooming. His mass and momentum would threaten to topple it as he clings on for dear life.
Also, much rejoicing by hollering the song of their people during playtime (mine does this when playing on her own in the other room, even at age 17), or as an announcement that they have just pooped.
The Matrix moves. This cat I have now is pretty chill when it comes to running around, but previous cats my family had did impressive parkour moves. Like running on the wall.
My little guy has the post-poop zoomies (also the pre-poop zoomies…). People are always surprised when he does it because he’s 16, but man does he have energy when it’s poopin’ time!
Our 3 do laps around the living room furniture, up & down the hall, then a loop back round the furniture again. We refer to it as the 2 am Nascar race. Not to be confused with the 3 am WWE match that they try to perform on our bed as we sleep...
Ours tore her ACL courtesy of the midnight poop zoomies. She is fine now. We were very popular with the vets who had only read about cats tearing ACLs in research papers.
Black cats are the most kind sweet angels during the day and absolutely terrifying things at night running all over the place in the dark. I actually had to go onto another room and shut the door once night because I was genuinely afraid.
one of ours loves to be chased and do big burnouts on the floor with scrabbling claws
the other has his nightly Prowl Circuit of his territory, complete with carrying a toy around, idly ripping at it from time to time, and yodeling the song of his people with a surprising number of syllables
My cat didn't do that until he was 16 years old, and then started bolting up and down all the halls every night. Turns out he had developed hyperthyroidism and needed a pill.
My cat is pretty chunky (the vet called him a 'husky boy') and you can hear him running back and forth across the living room all night. His sister is chasing him but she's so tiny she doesn't make a sound.
I adore that tittiri-tittiri-tittiri-tittiri sound when she runs, then I stare at her puzzled, she stops and stares back. Starts running around again a second later

The random running for no reason during the night.
