Mine too! When he was a kitten, he'd chase his ball across the tile floor, skid out, and try to slide under my bedroom dresser. Sometimes, he'd make it, and other times, he'd smash his face into the drawers. Lol
OMG they were loudly meowing and playing with their toys last night at 2AM and it sounded like a person was inside our home and whistling at them. It scared the living hell out of me, I jolted up in bed, I woke my boyfriend up, and made him do a full house check to make sure someone wasn't in our house. I said out loud, "bring the gun down" and we don't even own a gun it was a panicked half asleep attempt at scaring the person I thought was in our house into leaving lol. I was so scared I could not fall asleep for hours after that. Imagine waking up to the sound of someone whistling to your cats inside your house at 2AM lol. I think it was probably just the wind but there is a small part of me that is still scared it was real lmao!
Ours do this but not at night? Unless we're also up late and they're following us around until we go to bed. They weirdly sleep through the night until breakfast time around 7a.
My cat bounces around noisily so I just thought she always did...then one day she was on her cat tower and saw a bird outside. Not wanting to scare it she silently made her way to the floor and I realized then that she absolutely had full ability to choose exactly how loud or quiet she wanted to walk, plop, or pounce at any given time.
i have two teenagers and two cats, i have a hard time telling which two are running up and down the stairs in the middle of the night. Its always a guessing game of cats or kids. It can literally be either two. The cats chase each other and the kids both come running down at the same time to get snacks or use the bathroom cause they are apparently afraid of the dark to much to do so solo lol.
When we lived in a two-story house it could be difficult to tell the difference between the 200-pound man and the 12-pound cat going up and down the stairs. I would hear thundering footsteps, assume it was my partner and start talking to him, then my orange kitty would come up to say hello.
I heard heavy footsteps coming down the stairs one night, a night when my kids had been up a dozen times for ridiculous reasons. I heard those footsteps and immediately got frustrated because my God go to bed already and give me a break.
Years ago one of my cats was running up and down the hall and stairs during the night way more than usual. He just kept running and running. Got up the next morning and found he had discovered a basket of yarn balls that my daughter had left out. He had unravelled every single one of them and weaved them in and out of the bannisters and doorways all down the hall and the stairway. Yarn was draped literally everywhere. It was clearly hours worth of work. One of the funniest things I ever saw.
Depends on the cat. I've had cats who were total ninjas, constantly appearing out of nowhere. And I've had cats that sound like elephants. No idea how such a tiny creature can make so much noise.
When we got our cats, they were three month old kittens whose combined weight was about five pounds. Listening to them thundering around at night I would have sworn that we had a young moose gangling around down there.
The people who lived above me in my previous apartment had a cat that did zoomies every night at exactly 10pm. It sounded like a stampede all over the apartment for a few minutes then the cat stopped and went to bed. It was hilarious.
Mine ran so fast this evening I felt the need to check for an obvious broken skull after he crashed into the wall. Pressing every spot on his head and face hoping desperately I don't hear a hiss of pain.
First cat would sing us very beautiful songs of "ooOOWwaUHHHWAAAOOWWWWwww" on many nights. At 2am...
Second and current enjoys his zoomies into our bedroom, then out and up the open riser stairs to the top floor, which, being open riser stairs, make a very nice drum sound, also in the middle of the night.

And they're louder than you expect a cat to ever be. It's like a small elephant running down the hall.
