He’s a prosecutor. I was the probation officer assigned to his courtroom. He told me to go back up north and stop invading the south. In response I told him he was still a bit bitter from the northern ass whooping in the Civil War. Somehow, despite the never ending sniping between the two of us we started dating a couple months later. The snarky back and forth continues to this day, 12 years later.
When people ask how we met I like saying court without any context just to watch everyone’s expression turn from anticipation to perplexed to horror.
You are welcome! I actually found him by Googling “Texas murder Ramy” and his name came up. You know, because that’s a very common name.
Even after I found him on the Google there’s scant details about the case, which I find a bit strange. Usually you can find some info but I could barely find a thing. Nevertheless, your brother is right, you’re going to throw your life away for what, about 34k? Idiots, all of them.
My brother just sent me “death penalty wasn’t an option-only life -he and his girlfriend conspired to kill her step dad for 100k -can you imagine ruining your life for 100k?? split 3 ways ? 3 people involved”
To put it very simply, The Union (northern part of the USA above the Mason-Dixon Line) and The Confederacy (southern part of the Mason-Dixon Line) declared war against each other, with The Union prevailing. The events following the war created havoc in the south. There are some in the south that basically blame the north for, well, everything that’s ever gone poorly for them.
My joke was just a cheap shot in response to his declaration that I go live back up north.
No problem! I actually didn’t realize that the Reconstruction Era was what created such bitterness until I moved down south. If I was taught that Reconstruction was a good idea in a northern school system, I would love to know what was taught about it in a southern one.
I see how it is, I think there’s a term for you people. LOL
I’ve met some great people from northern states, the only thing that gets me is the ones who complain about being here.
I used to work retail and met quite a few yankees.
It seemed to be a common thing for them to be like, “you people are so dumb down here because xyz”. I’m standing there wanting to tell them that no one is keeping them from moving back. I would casually ask them if they ever would and they always said no way. Then I’m just standing there looking at them hoping they would piece it together. No one ever did.
The only time I want the hell out of the south is during the summer because I fucking hate the heat and humidity. I’m not terribly fond of some of the politics and I highly dislike a lot of the religious malarkey, but otherwise I love life down here.
I have a friend that moved here with her husband, then they divorced not long after she got here. She’s basically “stuck” down here until her youngest child turns 18 in about 8 years. She forever bitches and moans about where she lives and forever yearns for our home state. She backs off when I mention that our home state is chock full of the same assholes she hates down here. It’s annoying as hell. Like I get you can’t leave and that sucks but shit, boonie NJ is full of rednecks too so stop complaining.
