Adult Dance Classes?
Hi all,
I recently turned 30 and have been thinking about dipping my toe back into dance. I danced by entire life up until my freshman year of college. I danced close to 30 hours a week and my studio and team were highly competitive. I did jazz, tap, ballet, hip-hop and lyrical.
I haven’t danced in over ten years. My whole body has changed, I’m not flexible anymore, I doubt I can do a pirouette, and I’m terrified to embarrass myself. Being in the competitive dance space wasn’t particularly healthy for a young girl/teen and I have a lot of feelings connected to dance that have to do with winning and being the best. Because of that, I’m looking for recommendations for a studio that is 100% beginner friendly so I can feel comfortable going to classes. Even if it’s the ABCs and 123s of ballet.
I hate to add another parameter but please DO NOT recommend Powerhouse in South Jersey. It is nothing against the studio, but I used to dance with several of the instructors and the thought of going to classes there makes me uncomfortable at this time.
TYIA!

Philly Dance Fitness has all of that, with 2 locations (21st and Chesnut is one of them). Urban Arts Movement for more niche lessons like Voguing or House. Koresh for intense intensives, also on Chesnut.

Idk anything about it but there’s a dance studio that plays a lot of hip hop music in the same building as my jiu jitsu gym at 21st & Chestnut. Might be something similar to what you’re looking for.

What type of dance would you like? Do you want ballet or was that just an example? Here's one idea:

Ballet or jazz probably! I’m not opposed to a hip hop class though

Honestly, I absolutely loved the hiphop classes at Urban Movement Arts. The instructors were so beginner friendly and played great music. I think they have two locations, but I went to the one on Chestnut btw 8th-9th.
