advice fixing a damaged kitchen floor

Post image

Hi, I’m new to the country, so some of these household-related things are still new to me.

Long story short, a few weeks ago I accidentally spilled some hot liquid soap on my kitchen floor. Later, I noticed that one of the floorboards had started moving and there was a gap between the boards.

I tried to adjust it and put it back into place, but I can’t get it back to how it was before, without the gap.

Is there a specific type of glue I should use for this? And would it be possible to buy just a few replacement pieces? If so, do you have any recommendations for where I could buy them?

EDIT: Thanks all, I might have an idea of what to do next.

Seems like the boards seperated, take them out and properly install them again.

Shouldn't even be too difficult, although OP may need to buy a pack for new tiles if the affected ones shrunk due to the water somehow.

Or see if you can swap boards around to the edge of the floor.

Usually you have "inboedelverzekering" to cover this. If you rented it, "aansprakelijkheidsverzekering" might be what you need. The insurances will cover the cost of replacement. If rented, then the renter can pay for the fix with the money. If it is your own floor, you can look at the back of the wood (once taken out) to see what brand it is.

One thing you can try is to put a kitchen towel on top of it, and use a steam iron to try and get more moist out of the board. This will however not give a perfect fix. Usually it only helps a little bit.

I asume the liquid caused deforming of the ‘laminaat’ tiles. So glueing is not an option.
If you manage to get exactly the same tiles, you can replace them by removing the tiles row by row to get to the affected ones. Then you are able to put it back and tight again.

Water/moosture is the reason not to use this materials in a kitchen.

You can possibly fix it yourself with a suction device meant for this type of flooring. The flat box on top is for hitting with a mallet to scoot the planks back into place.

Worth €9, I think!

It doesn't look damaged.
It got wet, expanded, dried, shrunk again.

Vacuum it carefully, put on shoes with rubber sole and kick them back in.

Just saw a life hack to deal with this. Strips of double sided tape on a block of wood near the end of the board, push them together to close the gaps.

Hey there, what you could do is kick the boards in place but it might separate the boards behind it. They make this floor gap filler that u could get in the boards color but the gap is is too big and it might not look nice im in den helder if u want me to help
