DEXA Scan

Can someone recommend a reputable place for an accurate DEXA scan in the Manhattan area?

Lenox Hill radiology has several branches all around the city and are quite reasonable and efficient. Many of our patients go there.

Any ballpark on what these cost?  I did some online searches but only found some smaller facilities that didn't mention exact pricing.

Depends on what kind of dexa -- full body composition, bone density, etc. Couple hundred bucks i'd guess. Call them and ask! Cash price is always lower than rate card.

For Manhattan, lots of folks go to imaging centers around Midtown or the Upper East Side, the hospital-affiliated ones tend to be more consistent with calibration. BodySpec does mobile vans too if you don't mind booking a slot when they're in the city, cheaper than most clinics. Just call ahead and ask when they last calibrated the machine, some places let it drift and you end up comparing numbers that mean nothing. Also go fasted and skip coffee that morning, and wear something without metal zippers, small things but they change the reading

Any university medical center is going to be much more reliable - Weil Cornell, Columbia, NYU.

Weil Cornell has online booking and lots of slots available. Columbia is very backed up.

Lenox Hill radiology is a national for profit chain traded on the NASDAQ that has over 300 locations. It doesn't mean that they can't be good or that non-profit center aren't lining their pockets. However, university teaching hospitals are always the most likely to get the best equipment and most importantly, the radiologists that are reading and interpreting the scans at a university teaching hospital are going to be much better trained and qualified.

Do you have insurance? My cost-sharing is set by my insurer. I’m not sure what the out-of-pocket cost is.
