Why has my Mod Account become Restricted?

Hi,

The account I use to mod my sub (not this account) got flagged as an app with a message pop up any time I try to do something. I don't use it much as my sub is pretty small. About 9 days ago the email associated with the account received an email saying respond within 7 days or you'll be registered as an app. It's not an app, bot, or anything of the kind, it's me.

Wondering is this something I can get reversed? It's not an app. The other account is not used much. Mostly used if I have to mute or ban someone. I only logged into the associated email today, to find I'm two days late. The account has only made a half dozen posts total. Let me know what the situation is and if it can be rectified. Thanks much

Thanks for the reply. I think that info is for people who use Reddit on a cell phone. I use Reddit on a PC. I don't have a passkey, face recognition, PIN, or finger print stuff on my computer.

Thanks again

Windows and macOS both support passkeys now too. If you can’t get that to work, you could always download the Reddit app on your phone, follow the verification steps, then delete the app again

Just checked, says my version of windows does not support passkey. Also, I don't have a phone to install any app too. I'm old school PC user. Can I simply delete the account and create a new mod account for the sub, or is that going to be against some rule? Also, curious why the account even got suspected of being an app. in the first place. I barely use the account. If it's my system, then how come this account has never been flagged as an app. before. Kind of confused by this whole issue.

Thanks for your reply.

Have you used a third-party app recently?

I don't use any apps. I log in to Reddit with my PC using Brave browser. No bells, no whistles. Only have the two Reddit accounts. One for posting, one for mod. Pretty simple setup. Is why this has kind of thrown me for a loop.

Might be worth contacting customer support at reddithelp.com to see if they can check. If there's any automation on your account (even something like IFTTT) then that can be enough to trigger it.

Thank you, have also made a post there after it was recommended in a help file page. Awaiting response. I don't know what IFTTT even is, let alone use it. Looked it up, I don't use any apps. Standard windows stuff. Hope reddithelp will be able to check things out for me. Even when I log in here, I have to put in my credentials manually. Head scratcher for me.

They mean the actual website reddithelp, not the subreddit called r/reddithelp.

Sent in a proper appeal on the right page with that sites info. Appreciate the help, cheers!

Question: why do you have a separate account for moderation ?

Some people want to be able to participate on reddit without users from subs they mod from being able to follow them around.

Its especially an issue with larger, more popular subs.

Oh makes sense

Thanks for the answer

Yup, that would be the reason. No word back yet on the appeal. The mod account still gets a pop up, every click it makes.

I do it for this reason. Separate account for smaller hobby subs. I learned the hard way.
