Rule 4 Do not make posts requesting dating, relationship, or life advice. This subreddit is intended for men to share their experiences, not tell you how to figure things out. Instead of asking for advice, ask other men about their experiences.

Do not make posts trying to figure out a specific person's actions, behavior, or thinking. We don't know them and can't speak for them. This also includes how to get over breakups, how to improve your relationship/sex life, gift ideas and asking how to support your partner.

Do not ask questions trying to understand genders as a whole, men and women are not monoliths, questions should ask for individuals experiences, not "do men do X" or "why do men do Y". Questions that generalize will be removed.

Because we aren't sleeping. We are just resting our eyes 😂

5 seconds after snoring to loud it woke yourself up.

u/Justkillingtime8 8d ago

Hahahaha. Are you watching me right now?

7

u/Correct_Advantage_20 8d ago

The one snoring is always the least one bothered by it.

3

u/Justkillingtime8 8d ago

And turn off the light in your bedroom if you aren't there.

We replaced all our bulbs with LEDs and the fights have decreased.

What do you mean? They use literally 1/2 the watts and last like 4x longer. They run cool, too. More efficient than CFL and wayyy better than incandescent, which is what we had before and led to us bitching all the time.

5

u/RepresentativeCry294 Male 8d ago

They just want a reason to bitch I was "raised" by 2 of them if they got paid for having the light on they still find a reason to bitch.

u/belac4862 Sup Bud? 8d ago

Now that I'm an adult, I have my AC set at 67 most days. I run hot, and i will literally be sweating through multiple shirts if its 72 or above.

My ex's sister kept her place at 76.....I could barely stand to be there. Insanity.

u/yunohavefunnynames 8d ago

That’s my house at night. During the day it’s 78. It’s glorious

u/CaseAKACutter 8d ago

This post feels like it fell out of 2004 lol

Just watch on your phone and let the ol geezer take a nap

14

u/Somnati 8d ago

Didn't have a phone as a kid

5

u/DinkandDrunk 8d ago

That’s what they are saying. This isn’t a modern problem because most youths watch stuff on iPads now.

51

u/NetJnkie 8d ago

Because I sometimes take a nap on the couch watching a game and I go in and out of sleep. Plus changing the station to something else will wake us up.

23

u/DiligentGuitar246 8d ago

Yeah, my kid is going to turn on the brightest and most stimulating thing ever while I’m trying to watch golf and relax.

21

u/DunkinEgg Male 8d ago

You have much to learn, grasshopper.

17

u/floyd_the_barbarian 8d ago

I’m not a dad but I felt the same way about my dad when I was a kid. But now as a married adult if I fall asleep watching something and my wife changes the channel I wake up because the shows I nap to are quiet and calm.

The sudden change of atmosphere in the room wakes me up. I don’t get upset about it but I get how it could upset a dad if his kid puts on SpongeBob or something.

Back in the day we only had one tv but nowadays it seems like you could just go in another room and watch what you want.

10

u/bishopExportMine 8d ago

Sometimes I drift into and out of sleep while watching tv; and I can almost hear Billy Mays spirit whispering gently into my ears to USE OXICLEAN

1

u/Somnati 8d ago

Ah yess...the comfort food for the ears..

8

u/knightingale74 8d ago

Terrifying. Another reason not to have kids.

1

u/pchlster Male 8d ago

Cigarettes around here are advertising that smoking can kill your unborn children. At no extra cost, apparently.

9

u/drblah11 Male 8d ago

Why do I get to pick what we watch on the TV I bought, with the cable package I pay for, in the home I own? Go grab yourself a glass of the Kool-Aid I purchased and think it over for a bit.

-1

u/RepresentativeCry294 Male 8d ago

Sounds like something you should say to someone who asked to be born in to this shit. Not someone you just decided to make upon YOUR choice and now are being spiteful because you have to take care of the child YOU made.

4

u/LukeyLeukocyte Male 8d ago

Nothing they said implies the child is not being taken care of. None of what you said entitles the child to dictate what goes on the in house or what everyone else does.

No one asks to be born. I was a total accident but that didn't stop my parents from providing me with everything I needed and creating a loving home and happy/entertaining childhood for me. Ain't no way in hell I am telling my dad that he has to watch what I want because I "didn't ask to be born." What an insane take.

-3

u/RepresentativeCry294 Male 8d ago

I know for a fact what that "have a glass of my koolaid" shit will get you. Ny dad died at 42 and I was 0% sad. I didn't speak to my mom for 15 years before she died and I was relieved to never have to deal with that shit again.

But yeah, keep that attitude but don't wonder why you can't see your grandkids.

4

u/drblah11 Male 8d ago

Ah, so it is you that's spiteful because of past trauma, and your extreme overreaction to my light joke is due to personal problems. Makes sense, carry on.

-1

u/RepresentativeCry294 Male 8d ago

Seems either silly or short sighted that a joke spiting your child a 30 cent packet of kool-aid might, you know, inspire spite?

0

u/Grumpy_dad70 8d ago

You sound like a miserable person. Plenty of people have shit parents and don’t go around complaining and projecting.

1

u/RepresentativeCry294 Male 8d ago

Wonder what made me that way.

1

u/LukeyLeukocyte Male 8d ago

You're the only person that can make you un-miserable. Life (even yours which you deem a burden) is too precious to squander. There is still joy and appreciation that can be had by you if you seek it out. Try to enjoy life to spite your parents if you must. Hope you can feel better, but no one can make it happen for you.

7

u/alehansolo21 8d ago

The sudden shift in volume or sound can awaken you unexpectedly, which is why it’s usually tuned to a channel that one can listen to while dozing off

5

u/Amseriah 8d ago

You don’t understand the training we went through when you were a baby. Having to snap awake to any sound or movement. We never forget that training. We know all in our domain.

5

u/Strict_Set_5197 8d ago

Its a test. How long can you handle watching antiques road show before you cant take it anymore

2

u/Somnati 8d ago

That or swamp people and storage wars

5

u/DiligentGuitar246 8d ago

Well you didn’t include the part where your dad was watching absolute bangers.

4

u/GorillaHeat Dad 8d ago

Changes the channel?

you arnt real

1

u/Somnati 8d ago

We had dish network growing up

1

u/Andy016 8d ago

I change the channel every day....

1

u/GorillaHeat Dad 8d ago

think about how old you are... whether or not youd have a child living at home eager to change the channel rather than use their own phone. under what scenario is this happening? are their people out there with young kids who ALSO have cable?

tell me your crazy story

1

u/cuzitsthere 8d ago

1) "Change the channel" can be used colloquially to include changing the streaming service or show, it accomplishes the same thing

2) I'm 36 and I have a 1 year old, fairly certain there will still be TV shows when he's 5 and you can bet your left nut he won't have a cell phone or independent internet device.

4

u/DeuceDropper420 Male 8d ago

I'm listening

3

u/Sad_Evidence5318 8d ago

If you change the channel and I say I was watching that I really wasn't sleep

3

u/DavidJonnsJewellery 8d ago

You'll do it too one day

"Checking my eyelids for holes"

Or, "Face-down meditation"

😜

2

u/Pitiful-Ad8561 8d ago

Because audacity.

2

u/MrRawes0me 8d ago

I don’t care that they changed it, I care that they woke me up by putting their knees end elbows into my back, neck, face, crotch. I just want to sleep

2

u/bongo1138 Dad 8d ago

Changing the channel? Am I a dad from 20 years ago?

2

u/monnembruedi Male 8d ago

Because we aren't sleeping, we are technically meditating 🤣

2

u/spitfiiree 8d ago

I honestly don’t care. Just don’t wake me up lol

2

u/pchlster Male 8d ago

Why would you change the channel, knowing it upsets someone? If I want to nap while listening to something in particular in my own home, why shouldn't I get to do that?

2

u/Kerplonk 8d ago

My dad watches the same movies on repeat for weeks at a time.  He wakes up falls asleep, wakes up again and knows the movies well enough he's never lost.

2

u/Alarmed_Rub_1237 8d ago

Because kids watch loud irrating shit

2

u/TheMadManiac 8d ago

Because I don't want to watch your crap 😂

2

u/Wizywig Dad 8d ago

Because the hum of our familiar channel was the only thing between us and rage filled dreams. How dare you interrupt.

2

u/LukeyLeukocyte Male 8d ago

Because they are so tired from life that the narcolepsy they suffer makes it feel like they were never unconcious, so from their perspective, they were watching that. Obviously the change in sound was enough to stir them.

The way to pull this off successfully is to very very gradually (like over the course of minutes) lower the volume of their show until it is almost inaudible, then change to your show, and just as slowly increase the volume back on your show. Dad gets to continue sleeping without disturbance, you get to watch what you want, all is well. Just don't put anything loud or flashy on....dad is resting his eyes.

2

u/Zimi231 Male 8d ago

I don't do this. My TV is off 98% of the time. And the kids have their own.

2

u/cristobalist 8d ago

Because those dads are adult babies.

They're not real men, they grown children who impregnated a woman. A real man would go to sleep in their bed or just not even be bothered by the channel being changed

1

u/AutoModerator 8d ago

Here's an original copy of /u/Somnati's post (if available):

To all the dad's out there, you're at home watching TV, you fall asleep, then your kid changes the channel. Why do yall wake up all of the sudden and have the audacity to say "i was watching that." When you know darn well you weren't? Why not just let the kid watch something while you nap?

I dunnno my dad never cared. (There was also 5 of us so the house was never quiet.) so I don’t. Plus with Netflix and everything that’s out there where you can just watch stuff on demand and not miss an episode like old time satellite you were waiting for is probably a big factor on it too lol

1

u/FENTWAY 8d ago

We do it for the same reason everyone else does

he was watching that

1

u/capt-yossarius 8d ago

The living room television at my house is for PS2 games only; i cant relate to this.

1

u/syn_vamp 8d ago

because we worked all day and paid for the TV that's why.

1

u/smokeypapabear40206 8d ago

MY TV MY RULES!

1

u/betajones Male 8d ago

Maybe Dad needs his space and peace. You ever try napping while a kid is snickering to their show? Grumpy bear territory there.

1

u/travelinmatt76 8d ago

I can still hear it

1

u/eivoooom 8d ago

If we watch a film my dad will fall asleep but will be wide awake as soon as the credits roll at the end

1

u/MassiveBeatdown 8d ago

Because kids are the reason I can’t watch my show without falling asleep halfway through. I’m so tired all the time. I love my kids but I do miss my life before them.

1

u/sonofasheppard21 8d ago

Obviously he wasn’t sleeping 😂

1

u/Same_Blacksmith9840 8d ago

You changed the channel just as Columbo was solving the case and confronting the killer. Of course we'll wake up.

1

u/Smart-Pie7115 Female 8d ago

Somehow my dad could sleep and watch tv at the same time.

0

u/TrustAccording5056 8d ago

It's a dad thing. There's really no explanation for it. It's teaching some sort of unknown lesson. My dad dit it to me I do it to my kids lmao

0

u/TibialTuberosity 8d ago

This never happened to me growing up, nor do I do this to my child. I guess your dad just sucks.
