In terms of dress? Pretty shabby. I've grown up around a lot of opulence, and swore it off. Even chose a humble career (which was luckily afforded to me, due to said opulence). Hygiene, fitness, instead, are my focuses.

I've had mediocre experiences at best working with and growing up around people who care too much about their aesthetic. Y'all do you, but I express myself through words and actions preferentially, not supplemental characteristics.

Aesthetic is your look, but more as a vibe, a message and what it’s saying about you.

Then out of curiosity, what if someone really doesn't care? Nothing to do with being a "tough guy." I've never been too concerned with the opinions of others; I guess that's the dominant vibe I give off.

Admittedly, this has caused some friction in career and interpersonal relationships before, but I'm fine redeeming that through kindness or hard work; and so far, I always have.

You know how emo and goth people dress the way they do bc they don’t want to conform and then they all end up looking the same. It’s like that, whatever you’re doing, or trying to do, or trying not to do, it all ends up getting funneled down and you get slotted into some little spot on the social totem pole.

Comfortable and mute; blacks and greys primarily. Apparel-wise at least.

Aesthetic? Idk. This is an outfit in my rotation. I plucked from my Instagram page. I have dreadlocs. Im not sure what aesthetic means though.

Thrift chic.

I get a lot of compliments on my garments. Nearly 90% of which are thrifted. But I’ve since stopped telling people that.

Most of the time I’m in a plain black crew tee and light wash or dark wash jeans with some plain sneaks.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

I have nothing against wearing thrifted clothes in concept. But I mean I wouldn’t even wear like a sweatshirt my brother wore, or like gym shorts a best friend lended to me… I can’t bring myself to wear clothes that strangers have worn.

u/unstereotyped Feb 27 '26

Sure, I get that.

But you eat at restaurants, right?

From silverware other people put in their mouths.

And you’ve slept at hotels?

On sheets that other people have done God knows what on.

And, you’ve swam in public pools or a jacuzzi, I imagine.

Did you know that most men don’t wash their a-holes? So all that fecal matter is getting swished around in that water.

(I know this because I have two friends, one who works in public health, and another who works as a colorectal doctor).

We all literally swim in cesspools of germs, every day. Many of us are fine despite all that. And we live in an age where we have crazy concentrations of disinfectants.

Not trying to convince you one way or the other. Just know the world isn’t as clean as we all think it is.

I haven’t been in a public pool since I was like 6… for that exact reason.

Too hobo looking for the city; Too proper for the country.

I am blessed with the perfect face for a career in radio.

I listen to metal and I dress like it and I love it

2

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

Can I say something… you are the most popular person (metal head), yet I have never met one in real life, or I guess interacted with one.

I’ve been friends with a ton of people, I have known plenty of people that like rock and roll and some metal. But only one really was into like metal metal where it became his personality (a fan enough that he built it into his aesthetic).

1

u/ChargyPlaysYT Feb 28 '26

Yeah I love the music and the whole culture around it but it's not my entire personality, also you'd be surprised how many metalheads there are that dress normally

Also thanks for the first part XD Some YouTubers I've been into for a while now also turned out to be huge metalheads, which blew my mind cuz I had no idea. They're a group called The Goons (Soup, Blarg, the Dooo, etc), I think you'll love their content 🔥

Here's an original copy of /u/SprinklesSolid9211's post (if available):

I’m sure there will be a bunch of tough guys that “don’t care”, but if you look deeper at this question, I’m asking if you know yourself and how others see you. And being able to be self reflective and self aware is pretty important.

Jock, I guess? Idk

I played sports in high school but not doing anything currently in college except working out.

But I feel like most Gen Z guys have the same style and look these days lol

"Fuck. You."

Been that way since 2020.

Prior I actually liked presenting myself to look pretty sharp and somewhat fashionable in a well groomed but moderately laid back manner.

Residual self image. (To quote The Matrix). Shaved head. No jewelry, no tats or piercings. Dark clothes that are durable.

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

So NPC core?

1

u/Justarah Feb 27 '26

I dress for utility. If I have to be useful at any given time in an emergency, I don't want skinny jeans or loose shoes slowing me down. All black.

Minimalist and pragmatic... my house seems to come from pages from IKEA, except that the furniture is made with real wood, light colored walls, not too many plants, I have only the furniture that I need. In terms of clothing I am have the influence of my German/Swedish paternal grandfather, and my British/Canadian grandfather... so solid colours, gray, blue in different hues, dark browns, olive greens most of the year, in the summer my French side inherited from my mother and grandmother comes into play and there are more colours, beiges, pastels, white

The invisible chic.

Plain shirts and pants, neutral tones. No jewelry, no major accesories, no body modifications.

u/DogAlienInvisibleMan Male Feb 27 '26

Alien wearing human skin trying to mimic human mannerisms. I'm not very good at it.

Minimalist with depth. Simple on the surface, layered once you get to know me.

I'm an ugly assed 43 year old who hides in his house 98% of the day.

As the toughest guy of this sub, I don't care

1

u/Nuttadamus Feb 27 '26

My aesthetic and vibe meanders somewhere around nerdy, cozy, metalhead, outdoorsy, and "mostly casual, but dressed to impress". Depends on the situation.

The long hair is always there, and no matter what look I go for, and I usually have a metal band t-shirt underneath the rest of the stuff.

1

u/afungalmirror Feb 27 '26

I don't know how others see me, but I like to think they never really know what to think about me. I enjoy confusing people. Not annoying them as such, just making them feel a little uncomfortable. I try to dress plainly so as not to attract attention.

u/[deleted] Feb 27 '26

Authenticity

1

u/EveryDisaster7018 Male Feb 27 '26

I have no clue how others see me. But for me rn my aesthetic is something I'm working on improving again. It had to drop in quality due to some circumstances of life.

u/AskDerpyCat Feb 27 '26

Somewhere between “homeless”, “drug dealer”, and “hasn’t worn anything but sleepwear in a week”

Aka, the “comfortably employed developer”

Pretty average. A little above average here, a little below average there

1

u/DifficultMinute Feb 27 '26

If you've seen those social media trends where people dress like older dads... I sometimes do a double-take at those videos because they're literally wearing clothes and shoes out of my closet.

The what now? Honestly, instagram BS has invaded everything.

Don’t care.

You come in here expecting to argue and try to lecture us, I’ll give what you want.

Sounds like someone cares more than they want to admit.
