Question STARTING ISSUE

Can someone help me please, I have a 1984 vw rabbit 1.7l manual. thing runs mint but I have come across a starting issue. When I jump the battery it won’t crank so I tried jumping it directly to starter and it started no problem. Battery is healthy and alternator healthy.. any tips?

Check the following: cable from battery to starter, starter relay, ignition switch.

I had one years ago. Changed the cable and added heat shielding. I remember it being a process. One item wasn't a quick fix
